  1. Compliments to SMCC and Riverview on a great football game. It was hard hitting, old school, and fun to watch. Best of luck to SMCC next week against Flat Rock. You gotta love an underdog! Best of luck to Riverview the rest of the way and in the playoffs. Hopefully both teams got out healthy

    1. Tying to be a Jefferson fan

That’s rarely happens any more props that big man with a thick six. I saw that on state champs looked like a well drawn up play.

  2. Where is all the Jefferson hype?

    Total domination vs GI

That team will be unstoppable in two years

    Huron league champs 2026!!!

    Perfect season

  3. First of all, great win SMCC. Here’s my assessment after watching the film.

Poor effort out Riverview team with a line that at times played as if it was trying to do whatever the bare minimum could be. The job was to wear them out and it doesn’t happen with guys letting off blocks early watching the game while the play is still happening and whiffing all night. Number of times, if the block was made, a TD was possible, poor fundamentals. The backs can’t do it all. As bad as the teams was, they still had a chance in the 3rd quarter. You can’t have all those false starts when you’re averaging roughly 3-4 yards per play. Not sure if it was a good choice to pass so much, but with a line and backs not blocking, it wasn’t the best choice. I watched the KR team not block anybody and stood 20 yards away while 8 SMCC defenders swarmed the return guy. We need football players, not jerseys. That really summed up the story of the night. The team played like they didn’t want it didn’t get it. As a fan, no sour grapes whatsoever. The team that deserved this game won this game, no question. It’s a miracle the Pirates even had a chance with all those turnovers and KR TD’s.

If they expect to win a single playoff game against anybody, they’ll have to try much harder than that. This isn’t the same team that began the season. With a talent like Ian Adams, the team could at times afford to be lackadaisical, but not anymore because he’s not there to break off those big runs. Either a hole is there, or Riverview won’t do much, especially against a team that knows this offense as good or better than Riverview does.

Looking ahead to the FR match up for CC, all I can say is FR is a physical team that has lots of big bodies that can wear you down. That FR offense is quite a hammer imo. I wouldn’t judge FR by what just happened to this Riverview team because trust me, they can play ball with you guys, they just ran into a Riverview team that played much harder than last night. Like you guys demonstrated to the Pirates, expecting miracles doesn’t win football games, consistency does.

  4. That was SMCC’s biggest win since 2019. Riverview has some very big boys on that team! The entire SMCC defense was lights out! D line, linebackers, and D backs. I was getting a little nervous when Riverview moved the ball to the 10 yard line and didn’t convert on the 4th down play. If they convert there it would’ve made it 28-22 with 8 minutes left in the game. Offensively I’m still not sold on this shotgun/T/spread offense. I would’ve liked to see this group of kids run the T at times. Just my opinion-not trying to debate anybody!

    1. Let me ask you this.

If SMCC had never ran the T before, would you say to yourself, “ This group of kids looks like they would do very well in the T offense”.

I would bet that answer is, probably not.

      1. As an Ida fan, I think I say this with every single team we play haha. Just love the T offense. CC has done a great job adjusting to this “Gun-T” though, they are going to be a tough out in the playoffs.

  5. Jack Soarrow’s mom

Hats off to SMCC on a great win! Riverview is a formidable team that is well-coached and loaded with talent. This why the games are played regardless of what pundits or delusional dads post on blogs. It was a great football game between two really good football teams.

Enjoy the win Falcons. Next up is a talented FR team.

    1. I don’t agree with you sometimes Gary, but here, you’re spot on.
Take your butt kicking and go home.
Get ready for your next game.
Riverview cries when they win, they cry when they lose.

  6. Hats off to SMCC & Riverview on a great game tonight! What a game! We hope Coach Lauwers (longtime SMCC basketball coach) is ok after he was injured on the sideline.

  7. Riverview’s T offense didn’t look the same as it has looked in the past couple years. They ran straight T on every single play-no wing at any point of the game. They used to run a single wing on some plays and put him in motion to block.

      1. Gary, you’re very quick to fact check this Blog when it comes to your golden Domers. You’d be a great debate moderator for CBS!

I agree though, CC just won, and the criticism of Riverview needs to be toned down, sometimes a good team just beats another and it doesn’t have to be over analytical

  8. Probably not noticed… Trenton laid the wood to Carlson tonight…

Trenton and Anderson will both be in Riverviews district.

  9. Riverview made mistakes and SMCC capitalized on them-they should’ve scored again just before half but didn’t. I think SMCC’s defense is that damn good! Fast and physical.

  10. Does anyone notice whenever riverview loses three things happen… If we were healthy, the refs, it was nothing the other team did..

    Fact check…
    3 turnovers
Gave up 2 special teams tds…

Constantly put in 3rd and long…

CC ran the ball well and threw it effectively and efficiently.

    1. Hopefully someone contacts the MHSAA. During the SMCC and Riverview game. Every time a player was tackled. They blew a whistle and the play was over. Those refs should never do a game again. Just let the kids play. Worst officiating I ever saw. Maybe the refs got caught in a trap…..

    1. Lost their fastest guy a week ago, handed smcc the ball repeatedly and couldn’t tackle anybody on kick off. You don’t win games like that. 3 smcc td’s off turnovers, 2 off kick returns.

  11. Man…so much for all those riverview folks talking. Heck of a win for the CC. Airport might be in the next tier for the HL. Not bad, just not able to compete with the big boys.

  12. SMCC did bring the BOOM :(

First off hats off to SMCC they are an incredibly coached and team with a ton of physicality. They took advantage of every opportunity given and did not make any mistakes. SMCC always sets a standard of toughness in football, congrats 1 of 15 Monroe teams (joke).

Riverview coaches need to look in the mirror sometimes. 3 fumbles and 2 kickoff returns allowed by SMCC, are you kidding me? You have talented kids every year and you can’t even get off a snap without fumbling or giving up a big play?

You have a crazy talented QB with a very under appreciated arm and you stick to the T. People will say the T is what gives the view its success but it’s also what holds them back. A lot of these kids want to go to the next level and the only thing they have film of on offense is handing the ball off? Also the offensive coaching needs some help on decision making, running a trap with a very young player in at the fullback on a CRUCIAL 3rd and goal is crazy!!!! Riverview could not stop shooting them selves in their own foot!!

It was a good game and like I mentioned SMCC was a very well coached team and brought a level of physicality Riverview has not seen in what feels like 3 years.

Head up Riverview, your season is far from over you have a whole season left finish strong !

    1. You’re a clown. Since they have went to the T years ago, they average almost 40 points a game. The T protects the defense and plays complimentary football. The average size must be like 5’9” 175 lbs. You really want spread that bad? This gives the best chance. They haven’t lost a shocking game since Flat Rock in 2017. Fumbles happen. Kick returns happen. Grow up. Every single team in the league outside of Flat Rock runs a condensed offense. Without Junge, who by the way won’t play college football but instead basketball, they would run a condensed offense too. All the schemes are the same. Trap, power, duo, lead, iso, GT counter, etc. Go ahead and bash the coaching you fair weather fan, we don’t need you. I’ll actually pay you not to go. Get this guy a water.

    2. FR was very physical. I think you’ll be very surprised by the Rams. Riverview never gave itself a chance to get going, it was too busy giving up KR Td’s and fumbling.

    3. The spread is hit and miss. Either you have the qb and receivers, or you have mixed success year in, year out. Losing a lot more often would be the reality if we went to the spread. Beyond the turnovers and poor kick coverage, the team lost because too often they didn’t want to block and sustain blocks. A failure at fundamental stuff loses football games no matter what offense you run.

      1. Doesn’t even have to be the spread that team would do very good with some pro style sets or even just something to spread out the defense so you can get #11, #6, #15 (before injury), basically any playmaker in space. It is true Riverview was not fundamentally sound but that T does not help every time. It’s a good formation but it should not be pounded EVERY PLAY (the wing T is the same thing as the normal T with how Riverview runs it).

Again, no one mentioned spread obviously that’s not an offense that would fit this team

        1. The wing T is not the same thing. It has different rules and schemes that this blog (the people that comment) never understand. You’re declaring a strength and have to block differently.

Does the trap not get the best player in space? Tell that to the 100+ touchdowns it has caused the last several years. Shank had 50+ over two years. Adams had 20+ last year, and collectively Adams and Robinson will combine for 20+ this year. I’d call that production, would you? That’s just TDs, not yards and 1st downs.

Just because you got beat by a team that got some breaks and more importantly, was more physical, does not require an overhaul. No shame in losing to a great team. Regroup, learn, and get better.

          1. The traditional Wing T is a balanced formation. With no strength.

Riverview turned the corner when Mac got there and the Fullhouse-T was installed a few years later. The Shillito-Giarmo T.

          2. Shank and Adams are quite frankly just better than most players to be honest. That production would come regardless. But the T is supposed to be ran where you hit someone every play and grind out yards. Every defense throws so many people in the box and crowds the LOS causing so many injuries. By spreading out the defense I mean not get your star running back hit every play and worn down by week 3. Look at Riverviews injuries in the past years (yes it’s football injuries happen, but running an offense like the T EVERY PLAY gets your players banged up every time).

Also you’re missing the point you don’t need a completely new offense but some new formations (single back, pro, double gun) something to change it up and open the play book. And you don’t even have to pass out of those! Riverview will always be known for the dominant run game but at some point you gotta also protect the players and allow them to get creative, football is changing !!

      1. It’s the starter you lose that matters most and he was the tackler in space we lacked when SMCC ran that long TD to the area he used to be in and the RB who had the vision who took them all the way. They just aren’t the same football team. 2 other starters with injuries bad enough that they are questionable. I wish we had this game week 1.

    1. I’m not sure if you really mean that comment about “being healthy and it would have been a beat down” or if it’s sarcastic.

SMCC varsity football had a horrible sickness this whole week that impacted 7 major starters. We are talking very sick – not just cold/cough etc. We had major key players that didn’t attend practice or school for days and didn’t eat for three days. We had one practice with 22 kids this week. This team was WIPED OUT – we didn’t even know if everyone was going to be at school today. This is in addition to our big starter that is out for the season, plus three others hurt and not dressed. This team was FAR FROM 100% heading into the Riverview game. And I realize Riverview was missing a huge piece as well. No one on SMCC was happy about what happened to your player.

For so much uncertainty this team had this week, plus lack of practice – That is what makes this win and how they did it so special! Every single player had to step up, grind it out, and play smart, disciplined football. And these kids absolutely showed up!!

    1. 10 missed false starts on view. Only penalties called false start and 1 roughing passer. Not a single judgment call I assume you aren’t at the game.

      1. Pretty sure he’s being sarcastic. Refs were great Congrats CC. Rooting for you to get healthy and make a playoff run Riv fan
