Each week, I will go through the box scores of all of our teams and pick four players whom I will turn to you, the people, to determine our Player of the Week. Go over to our Twitter/X page to vote: @FNVictors
Since the three of us are busy on Friday, we may not be able to get all standout performances. If you have a nomination, hit me up on Twitter/X.
Without further ado…
Nathan Pinkava, RB, Riverview: With Ian Adams going down with an injury, Pinkava became the next man up for the Pirates. He rushed for 186 yards and four touchdowns on 15 carries, and also caught three passes for 69 yards and a score as Riverview outlasted Flat Rock 52-45 in a wild shootout.
Joe Krolak, QB, Carlson: Krolak has stepped his game up nicely in the absence of Izaiah Wright. The signal caller rushed for 181 yards and two touchdowns, and also passed for 133 yards and three scores as Carlson drubbed Southgate 63-13
Drew Harris, RB, SMCC: Harris was once again the star for the Falcons, as he rushed for 113 yards and three touchdowns in a 32-0 SMCC win over Milan on homecoming.
Tyler Dafoe, WR, Summerfield: I could pick a few Summerfield players, but I went with Dafoe, as he hauled in four receptions for 109 yards and the game-tying touchdown as the Bulldogs shell-shocked arch-rival Whiteford 20-14 in what could be the last meeting on the gridiron.
Honorable Mention: Ben Scully, RB, Flat Rock; Jordan Fields, RB, Airport; Trace Secor, QB, Summerfield; Dean Thomas, RB, Ida; Ashton Robinson, RB, Riverview; Avery Ortiz, RB, Carlson; Mitchell Gomulinski, RB, Summerfield
Here is my take. SMCC has a much better Defense than Flat Rock, but a less talented offense. I think SMCC will be able to stop riverview at times, the quesitons is can SMCC score enough. You know riverview will score, but how many stops can SMCC get. All about the SMCC offense. I can see a 32 – 20 riverview win or a 22 – 18 SMCC win.
You guys will never do this… but all this talk about riverview and their backs and so on.. the best player on the field vs flat rock is the center from Riverview I think his number is #55. That kid is by far the most important player on the riverview offense. When the running back went down there was zero drop off and the run game still dominated. Riverview is a system of deception and excellent scheme and great lineman. You can pretty much put any running back combination back there and they will eat yards… take the center out, and things change dramatically. That kid, not sure what is name was, but just owned the middle. I’d be surprised if he wasnt playing in D2 or D3 next year. Really good player and is a major piece to what they do.
That’s Garrett Timmerman, he’s a Saginaw Valley State commit. D2
He is a force to be reckoned with!
This is precisely how I feel about Carlson. It would be nice to go a week without mentioning their running back who only played the first game and first offensive series of second game and has since been out with an injury. Carlson is still getting the job done on offense because of their O-line. Plain and simple. They rushed for over 500 yards last week going 4-deep on the roster at RB, combined with their QB. Have they not done enough to prove they aren’t just a one-man show and can we give their guys up front the credit they’ve earned and stop making everything about someone who hasn’t played but one game this year?
Tough crowd
I think in close, equal talent games, top end talent at the skill positions matters. But vs inferior teams, It really doesn’t matter. Unfortunately, in both the Huron and Downriver league, the gap from top to middle is huge.
Write in candidate running back injured from Riverview Ian Adams. If I’m informed correctly a senior whose season is over and was a offensive POY candidate at start of season and an all-fnv 2023 player.
All i can say is Riverview may be down losing Ian but do notnbet against Coach Mac and the crew . They will show up to play
Do you fellas in the studio believe Smcc has a shot? I’ve been hearing little talk about Smcc being able to win but idk I’m just a man who likes to watch highschool sports?
Find out Wednesday night.
My pick may surprise some folks.
