Now that we are a few weeks into the season. We are back to our power rankings. The Power Rankings (Top 10) aren’t suggesting that one team would beat another in a potential match-up, they are simply implying that these teams are where they are at based on the season thus far.
- SMCC 2-0, The Falcons quite simply have looked unbeatable. A victory over Clinton in week 1 and a rout of a solid Huron team week 2 gives the Catholics the top spot this week.
- Ida 2-0, The Bluestreaks handled Grosse Ile in week 1 and beat a very good Whiteford team in week 2.
- Riverview 2-0, The Pirates have taken care of business the first two weeks of the season with victories over Renaissance and Airport.
- Carlson 2-0, The Marauders have weapons galore and made quick work of Airport and Edsel Ford the first two weeks.
- Flat Rock 2-0, The Ram offense and defense appear better than ever this year and appeared poised to challenge Riverview and SMCC in the Huron league this year.
- Whiteford 1-1, The Bobcats fell to #2 Ida in week 2, but should be a major player in Division 7 this season.
- Bedford 1-1, I’m not quite sure about the Kicking Mules just yet, but we will find out this week as they play Dexter.
- Summerfield 1-1, The Bulldogs may be a bit of a sleeper this year. There is talent in Petersburg.
- Milan 1-1, The Big Reds evened their record in week 2 as they defeated Jefferson.
- Huron 0-2, The Chiefs pass the look test, they just don’t have any wins yet.
It’s not always the case with speed, but this year’s team is unusually fast in every spot you need it with depth there. The ratio of students who play football, to students in the school at SMCC are much higher than Riverview. What matters more than the size of the school is how many students are and want to be football players. If SMCC had an 800 student enrollment, they’d be fielding varsity teams of 80 kids and winning state championships. Their participation rate is double that of Riverview. They have a huge advantage over the other D7 public schools and with the main threat moving up a division, it should be a clear path to Ford Field.
I like your optimism, but there are MANY blue bloods in D7.
Just look at the amount of state titles, over the last 20 years, in the top 10.
The most competitive division in the state, most would say.
We’ll see how unbeatable SMCC looks after they play Riverview.
Don’t recall anyone saying they were unbeatable. And certainly not to a D3 team.

Why do you think they aren’t as invincible as being portrayed? Nobody thinks anyone is invincible. In the 2 games CC played, according to Chris, they have looked unbeatable. Anyone who has been around sport knows, that’s a week to week assessment.
You don’t really expect a D7 team to beat a top 5 D3 team do you?
Then why are they at #1 if it was based on how good in there division I would agree because CC is probably top 3 D7 but then why isn’t flat rock above Riverview because they have a good enough team and a realistic chance to make a final it looks like it’s how good they are I think that’s why people are pointing this out because even you just said you don’t really think a D7 would beat a top 5 D3
I think Chris thinks they look to be playing the best of the bunch. Read what Chris wrote. These rankings don’t represent who would beat who.
A D7 team who fields similar numbers in football as a D3 or 4 school, sure it’s possible. CC isn’t your typical school in this state that fields just one football team of 20-30 guys, they are the best football program in that city that includes a D1 program. As for your first question, speed. I feel that will be the difference there. I look forward to seeing the film of CC and how they play so that I can have a better idea of the other areas for a comparison.
None of the top 20 D7 schools field just one football team.
They all have JV as well. So SMCC is similar in that regard.
If you are comparing Riverview to SMCC, I would assume Riverview has the faster players.
Certainly the top end guys.
I think JLC could beat a top 5 D 3 team- JLC is playing up a division – with enrollment of a D7

JLC was forced to play up. Never in a millions years would they have moved if they weren’t made to.
And D6 is not a tougher division to win when compared to D7.
They just lost to a top 5 D5 team. As much as you bathe in the Titan water, I’m sure you know that. So pitting them against a top tier D3 team, is questionable.
