Team Overview:
The Riverview Pirates, fresh off their impressive 9-2 season in 2023 and four consecutive Huron League titles, enter the 2024 season with high expectations. The Pirates have established themselves as a dominant force in the league, and with a talented roster and a track record of success, they are poised to continue their winning ways. The blend of experienced veterans and promising newcomers makes Riverview one of the favorites to capture the league title once again.
Key Returnees:
- Ian Adams (RB/CB, Senior): Adams is a game-changer on both sides of the ball. Offensively, his explosive running style can break open any game, while defensively, his coverage skills at cornerback make him a formidable opponent for any receiver. His versatility and athleticism will be crucial for Riverview’s success.
- Braedyn Evans (DL/OL, Junior): Evans is a force to be reckoned with on the defensive line. His ability to disrupt plays and create havoc for opposing offenses is matched by his solid blocking on the offensive side. Expect Evans to be a key player in controlling the line of scrimmage.
- Nathan Pinkava (RB/OLB, Senior): Pinkava’s agility and shifty running make him a significant threat in open space. On defense, his ability to cover ground from the outside linebacker position adds an extra layer of versatility and athleticism to the Pirates’ defense.
- Chris Sarnacki (DL/TE, Senior): Sarnacki’s strong presence at the line of scrimmage is vital for Riverview. His performance on both sides of the ball, especially in the trenches, will be pivotal for the Pirates’ success.
- Domanic Stuck (RB/DB, Junior): Stuck’s ability to play multiple offensive positions and cover the middle of the field from safety provides the Pirates with invaluable flexibility. His athleticism and defensive prowess are key components of Riverview’s strategy.
- Lucas Thompson (S/QB, Senior): Thompson’s experience at quarterback is invaluable. His capacity to play in space or contribute from the safety position gives Riverview a dynamic and experienced leader on the field.
- Garrett Timmerman (OL/DL, Senior): Timmerman’s commanding presence in the interior line helps anchor both the offense and defense. His leadership and physicality will be crucial for controlling the game’s tempo.
Notable Newcomers:
- Yamil Acevado (LB/OL, Junior): Acevado adds athleticism and depth to an already strong defense. His ability to contribute immediately makes him a player to watch as he adjusts to the varsity level.
- Niko Papadopoulos (DL/OL, Junior): Papadopoulos brings a high motor and energy to the line of scrimmage. His impact on both sides of the ball will be instrumental in providing a spark for the Pirates.
Coaching Staff:
The coaching staff, led by head coach Derek MacLaughlin, brings a wealth of experience and expertise. The assistants, including Erick Southward (RB/LB), Nick Gross (OL/DL), Nolan Glime (DB/RB), Matt Giarmo (QB/DB), Jason Dodd (OL/LB), Rob McCaslin (OL/DL), Chris Haut (OL/LB), Ryan Patrick (RB/DB), Blase Gennoe (RB/DB), and Brandon Igna (OL/DL), offer a diverse skill set and strategic acumen. Their ability to develop talent and make in-game adjustments will be key to maintaining the Pirates’ dominance.

Fans can expect Riverview to continue their tradition of excellence and make a strong push toward another impressive season.
Another year,
Another Huron League title for the Bucs.
One of the best coaching staffs in the league and certainly the most talented group in the Huron League.
I have been following this league since 1998 and Riverview is on one of their best runs in their program history. I don’t mean to be posting smoke but they will be just as good or better than last year. I don’t see where they lose a game this year in the regular season which should give them home field advantage in the playoffs. A rematch between them and River Rouge could be a good one!
Best of luck Pirates!
Go Bucs!
