In a nail-biting season opener, Jackson secured a 32-27 victory over the Monroe Trojans. Despite a strong effort from Monroe’s QB Colin Steele, who threw for 150 yards and two touchdowns, and added 53 yards on the ground, the Trojans came up just short.
Monroe’s rushing attack gained 151 yards, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Jackson’s potent offense. Coach Kyle Reed praised his team’s resilience, saying, “Overall, the kids battled hard… We went down 26-15 and the kids kept believing and came up short.”
A crucial 4th down stop by Monroe with 48 seconds left on their own 40-yard line gave them a glimmer of hope. However, a fumble on the Jackson 24-yard line with just 26 seconds remaining sealed the win for Vikings.
