Huron’s Fast Start Fades in 35-28 Loss to Churchill

The Huron Chiefs football team came out firing on all cylinders, building a 14-0 lead over the Churchill Chargers. However, the Chargers stormed back to tie the game at 21 by halftime, and ultimately emerged victorious with a 35-28 win.

Jakub Furkas hauled in a 22-yard touchdown pass from Cash Moczydlowsky in the first quarter, and Austin O’Dell added a 2-yard touchdown run and a 29-yard touchdown reception from Moczydlowsky in the second quarter. Hunter Mihal’s 79-yard touchdown catch from Ryan Anderson in the third quarter gave Huron a glimpse of hope, but Churchill’s offense proved too potent.

Moczydlowsky led the Chiefs’ rushing attack with 55 yards on six carries, while also completing 12 of 14 passes for 81 yards. Anderson added a perfect 1-for-1 passing performance, including the 79-yard touchdown strike.

Austin O’Dell paced the receiving corps with four catches for 24 yards, while Hunter Mihal’s lone reception went for 79 yards and a score. Despite the loss, the Chiefs showed flashes of brilliance, but will look to regroup and refocus for their next contest.

Huron (0-1) will travel to Monroe’s Navarre Field to face the undefeated SMCC Falcons (1-0) next week, seeking to bounce back from the tough loss. The Chiefs will need to shore up their defense and maintain their offensive momentum to challenge the formidable Falcons.
