Huron Chiefs: 2024 Team Preview

The Huron Chiefs finished the 2023 season with a 5-4 record, narrowly missing the playoffs for the first time in 4 years. Coach Tom Hoover returns 15 starters in what is a deep and experienced team in New Boston.

Players to Watch

1. Ryan Anderson (DB/WR)
   • Year: Senior 3 year starter
   • Height/Weight: 6-2, 200
   • Highlights: Anderson is a versatile player who excels both in the defensive backfield and as a wide receiver. His physicality and experience make him a key asset on both sides of the ball.
2. Austin O’Dell (DB/RB)
   • Year:Senior  3-year starter
   • Height/Weight: 5-10, 172
   • Highlights: Known for his speed and athleticism, O’Dell is a dynamic force in the secondary and on offense. His ability to change the game with his quickness is crucial for the Chiefs.
3. Drew Ladach (LB/FB)
   • Year: senior 3-year starter
   • Height/Weight: 5-10, 180
   • Highlights: Ladach brings toughness and strength to the linebacker and fullback positions. His hard-hitting style and leadership on the field will be vital for the Chiefs’ defensive and offensive units.
4. Christian Fields (DL/OG)
   • Year: Senior
   • Height/Weight: 5-8, 220
   • Highlights: Fields’ aggressive play and leadership make him a standout on the defensive line and offensive guard. His presence in the trenches will be key to controlling the line of scrimmage.
5. Colton Marentette (DL/OL)
   • Year: Senior

   • Highlights: Marentette’s size and experience in the line play make him a cornerstone of the Chiefs’ both defensive and offensive fronts. His ability to dominate in the trenches will be crucial for the team’s success.

Returning Offensive Players: Anderson, Jakob Furkus, Marentette, Brandon Potter, Brad Hughes, O’Dell, and QB Cash Moczydlowsky stepped in and played late last year.

Coach Hoover’s Outlook on Offense: Overall a younger group of players, they have shown good speed over the summer, Cash Muzzy steps in with a good arm for the passing game and we have good depth at running back. The offensive line looks to be quite promising

Returning Defensive Players: Alton Taylor, Anderson, Dylan Hudkins, Cameron Grant, Ladach, O’Dell, Fields, and Noah Herron

Coach Hoover’s Outlook on Defense: Returning 8 starters on this side of the ball, the secondary is expected to be a strong spot, The DL also gets an infusion of young, talented players like Sebastian Ibarra, Noah Herron, and Jamil Brown

Coach Hoover’s Outlook on the Huron League: expect another grind throughout the league schedule, the onus should remain on Riverview, Flat Rock, and Airport this fall, the JV league title last year was split with SMCC and Huron each had a record of 6-0-1

FNV Outlook: With a ton of talent and depth, the Chiefs should have a say in who wins the Huron League. FNV has called them a darkhorse, but with a solid defense, a few stars and a veteran coach, Huron may just be one of the favorites.
