Dundee Vikings: 2024 Team Preview

By Frank Vajcner

The Dundee Vikings have put together three consecutive winning seasons, and will look to make it four straight for the first time since the 1960s. They will also look to get back to the postseason after three of their four losses by a combined 11 points kept them out in the cold.

Head Coach: Steve Ayre is 17-13 entering his fourth year with the Vikings

Assistants: Jeremy Fielder (DC), Jeremy Bell (RB), Bryan Hammond (WR), John Schuler(OL), Mike Ayre(RB), Mitchell Webb(DB), Nate Mills(JV HC), Billy Baker(JV OL/DL), Jim Lawrence (DL)

RETURNING STARTERS

Offense: Jay Hickey (OL), Logan Turner (OL), Landon King (OL), Jackson Martin (WR), Quinton Lephew (RB), Ryan Zanger (QB), Joey Brink (RB), Evan Bennett (TE)

Defense: Caleb Vaughan (DL), Jay Hickey (DL), Carter Ray (DL), Joey Brink (LB), Quinton Lephew (LB), Camden Fairchild (DB), Jackson Martin (DB)

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Offense: Ryan Zanger, Joey Brink, and Quinton Lephew look to set the tone on offense as returning 3 and 4 year starters.  They will work behind a veteran offensive line led by Jay Hickey and Landon King (seniors) that also has good depth. Lephew will move from the line to RB after slimming down.

Defense: Caleb Vaughan, Carter Ray, Abe Bruck, along with Jay Hickey will return on the defensive line, while Quinton Lephew and Joey Brink will return as Linebackers. Jackson Martin and Cam Fairchild return to anchor the secondary.

Special Teams: Fairchild returns as the team’s kicker.

COACH’S FINAL WORD

We to compete every single day.  We are excited about this year’s seniors and the leadership they can bring to our program.  They have the opportunity to continue to build and write their legacy for Dundee Football.

FNV Outlook

Much like New Boston Huron, I feel that Dundee could be the sleeper team in the LCAA, given the experience coming back at QB and in the trenches. If they turn one or two of the close losses into wins, this will be a playoff team. The last three games of the season will all be huge, especially with Hudson looking to avenge an upset.
