Out with the old. In with the new.
Or should we say, bring two together to become one?
According to a report from Doug Donnelly, all-star football players from Monroe County will face all-stars from Lenawee County in a brand new all-star game.
The game will take place at O’Laughlin Stadium at Siena Heights University on June 21. Kickoff will be at 7 pm.
While this will be a first in terms of football, all-star squads from both counties have squared off before in basketball. From 2010 until 2015, boys’ and girls’ squads would play each other at Siena Heights in the summer.
Reaction from Frank: I really think that this is a great move. With participation numbers on the decline for the Monroe County game in recent years, this allows a tradition to be kept alive. Rosters are yet to be finalized, but some of the Monroe County players will get to see how the completion from neighboring Lenawee County stacks up, and vice versa.
Reaction from Gary: Representing your county, would seem to add some skin to the game. Something that is often needed in these all-star type games. I think it’s a great idea and am looking forward to the game.
