Playoff Preview: Trenton @ Riverview

Editors Note: We planned on providing previews of all the games, but didn’t receive info on a few of the teams not from the FNV coverage area. We can’t provide a preview if we don’t have the info.

Trenton finished the regular season with a 5-4 record and finished in 4th place in the Downriver League while Riverview finished the season at 8-1 and shared the Huron League title with Carleton Airport.

Notable: Trenton runs the flexbone triple option which is rarely seen in high school football these days. This is the 10th straight playoff appearance for the Trojans.

Tidbit: Junior LB Ansel Fater’s father Kyle played basketball for yours truly over at Flat Rock back in the day.

Riverview

Head Coach: Derek McLaughlin

Riverview Playoff Record: 19-20

Linemen to Watch: Gavin Labadie, Braedyn Evans, Joe Avouris

Notable: The Pirates have won or shared 4 straight Huron league titles.

Tidbits: Riverview has one of the best concession stands around; including their famous “Double Cheeseburger”.

Overview: While Trenton doesn’t appear to have a quality win on the schedule, the Trojans have 3 quality losses in games that could have gone either way, all of which were against playoff teams. Riverview has continued their dominance over the Huron League with the early season exception of the loss to Airport. Riverview will run their usual straight T offense with Trenton running the flexbone triple option. Expect a high scoring game with two veteran coaches matching wits to figure out how to stop the other team.

  1. Just my point of View

Hopefully Riverview is prepared this year! Open that play book. We all seen what happened last year against Goodrich & that Riverview team was no joke! Learn from your mistakes & make a name for yourselves! Not that typical 2 & out team, in division 3. The T is great when it works but what happens when they stop Adams as Goodrich did with their stellar 3 back last year. I think the Trenton game will be a shootout & the View will win. However Rouge/Southgate that’ll be a different animal! Best of luck in the playoffs Riverview hopefully your coaches did their job this year!!

  2. Wow, you didn’t even mention the center who’s been destroying people every game and is the biggest, strongest guy on the line.
