  1. I am baffled on how SMCC lost??
Two years ago I spoke my opinions here and was approached by SMCC staff, who reminded me my opinions are my own and that they have won state titles so they clearly know what they are doing…

Fast forward a year and itā€™s another loss ???

Looks like they know how to lose to JLC

  2. Iā€™m pretty confident that lumen would wipe the floor with any huron league team(even a healthy Riverview team), most of the SEC teams, all of the downriver league teams and most of the teams in state, even division 1 teams. They have the best coach in Michigan history, have class A player size and always churn out top tier college talent

    1. Having seen SMCC, Riverview, Lumen Christi, Monroe , Bedford, Milan, I can agree with this statement to some extent. However, a healthy 2021 Riverview team would have beaten Lumen Christi. Riverview at full health is big and physical enough to handle that. Their defense is built to stop offenses like JLC. Congrats to SMCC on a great season. We all know that last night is only another chapter in what I think is going to be a playoff rivalry for awhile.

    2. No one ever coaching Michigan high school football will ever surpass John Herrington as the greatest Michigan High School coach ever.

    3. No one ever coaching Michigan high school football will ever surpass John Herrington as the greatest Michigan High School coach ever. Also, JLC had an opportunity to wipe the floor with a Huron League team in the district championship game. Why did they not wipe the floor with them as you state they would do to every here on league team

  3. I donā€™t mean to make excuses but why is the enrollment of d6 teams so high now? The enrollment classification is 372-458. In 2019 CC was in division 6 at 347 students and this year theyā€™re d7 with 341 students. Division 6 is so much easier than division 7. They ran though d6 that year and to be honest, if they were division 7 they probably donā€™t win it. Teams like JLC, Pewamo-Westphalia(who are a phenomenal team), Muskegon CC, Detroit Loyola(who has multiple d1 players), Detroit central, new lothrop and traverse city st Francis are all state championship caliber teams.

I donā€™t know another division that has 8 legit championship threats

    1. SMCC beat PW in 2017. PW won D7 that year. SMCC was D6. Lost to Madison in a close one, who then lost to NL at FF.

Division strength fluctuates. Just the way it is.

They predetermined the divisions this year. Tried to place 65 or so teams in 8 divisions. Thatā€™s the way it worked out enrollment wise.

  4. Gary
I ran into the OLSM boys soccer coach a couple of weeks ago. . He said next year he will be coaching the girls . They became Co- Ed two years ago, and the MHSAA will recognize them next year as Co-Ed . The girls team will play in the lowest divisions possible , as they expect to have 74 total girls . But for boys sports, their division will be based on total enrollment, roughly 574 students

He stated this will drop the football team down to D5 or D 6 next year

Do you know anything about that

  5. Where itā€™s fun to post on this blog and have some fun banter, we should still keep things in perspective. A lot of seniors in our region had to hang their helmet for the last time these last few weeks. I think we can all remember how that feeling was. Looks like Whiteford is the lone wolf left in the region, and I have a hunch that coach Mensing and crew are prepped to make a run back to Ford Field. Goodluck Bobcats

  6. to anyone that thinks they can answer this, why was chelsea move down to D4 and King moved back down to D3? D3 seemed to be a perfect place to challenge Chelsea and a D2 a perfect challenge for King, especially when you consider king to have the 3rd best QB in the nation.

  7. Congrats Whiteford!!
    Once again, a stellar performance.
Your definitely doing something right out there. Probably the most consistent
public school football program in the
    county.
    Good luck next week!!

        1. Also played a D1 school and a 10-1 school from Ohio to fill in for missing a league game against a 2-5 league team. Do some research about football and how to spell ā€œweekā€ goon

  8. Terrible play calling in 2nd half for Smcc.. no kicker? Why throw the ball when you are dominating them in the first half? Terrible.. time for Kipf to goā€¦

    1. You are an idiot. Kipf had a 9-2 season and lost to the #1 team in the state by 9 pts in a close ball game. you know nothing of the circumstances of the season nor what it takes to coach and have a successful program.

We had a great first 11.5 minute TD drive. Not exactly dominating. We threw the ball and it didnā€™t work out. Cest la vie. stop blaming coaches. Go coach yourself idiot

    2. Here we go.
SMCC gets a tough team a early in the playoffs and lose, so letā€™s fire the coach.
      You people make me sick.
You are all entitled and when you donā€™t get your trophy you paid for with your 11 k
tuition for your kid, letā€™s fire the coach.
      Just stop.

      1. This is why I just can not root for private schools.
They really should be in their own league, and I agree the HL needs to seriously look at what is happening with D3, 4, 5, 7 size schools , adding to the fact that they have a catholic school that does nothing to help the rest of the league with playoff points, and still actively recruits.
Couple that with the fact that D3 Riverview has the highest number of non residents attending their school, Jefferson is declining and People pull their kids out of Flat Rock after elementary and middle school and Milanā€™s best player lives in Monroe across the street from SMCC.
        Huron League is a mess.
Transfer abuse and private school privilege has killed this league.
        Sorry, but it is true.

        1. It’s called school of choice. And pretty much every district participates in it. Riverview has so many school of choice kids so they don’t have to shut down the schools, or merge with another district. It has nothing to do with winning football games.

          1. So much for home grown.
Transfer abuse is so far out of control.
Buses going out of districts to pick up kids, kids getting shopped all over the county for the school that ā€œfitsā€ them, tuition being paid for based on ā€œneedā€,
mhsaa looks the other way, etc
Same thing happening in the HL.

    3. This is what happens when you play a private school like yourself.
That is why you should be in a league
      with private schools.
You won last week against a private,
You lose this week. It happens.
JLC made some second half adjustments, you did not.
Good luck next year, whatever league
      you end up in.
The HL is done. Private and school of choice has ruined the league.
      Not balanced anymore.

      1. So you’re implying if SMCC plays another private school they should lose? SMCC is not leaving the Huron League anytime soon, sorry to disappoint you. Speaking with other area league coaches, they do not see the league changing despite the tweaks that need to be made in the playoff system.

1 private school and school of choice has ruined the league? Its been the same teams every year at the top for the past decade! Milan-SMCC-Riverview and then occasionally GI, and Huron have a strong season. Maybe your school needs to reassess what they’re doing instead of complaining about your circumstances.

        1. I am the real REALITY. Been on here occasionally since Sept. I am implying that a private school should play other private schools. Everyone else IS looking at options, I know some of the AD’s in the league.
We need to save our schools. School of choice is a business now. Flyers in our mail, signs along the freeway,
former students going to schools and giving out goody bags and recruiting. Its happening all over. There will be no chance for FR, GI, or Jefferson to be at the top of the league anytime soon. Obviously, yes, we should have recruited harder when all of this started happening. Some of us barely pay the bills and have no real budget to do much recruiting. Its become an awful business and leagues need to be be re-arranged to save the smaller schools.
In this day and age, a private school should never be in a public school league.
Yes, the same teams have been at the top. That is exactly
          why things should change.

    4. SMCC loses to a team who has won 8 state championships since the year 2000 and this goof calls for the coach.

SMCC was there to win. In a place, vs a team, that hardly ever loses. JLC has the #1 winning percentage in the entire state of Michigan.

SMCC was more prepared and showed a ton of fight. The credit goes to the head coach Adam Kipf.

In the end, JLC was more physical. They made 1 more play. Falcons showed a ton of grit, taking Lumen to the wire.

      Hats off to thee.

    1. Proud SMCC Alum 2004

I bet you were one of those kids who were mad Coach Giarmo and now Coach Kipf didn’t run the spread huh? Or did you have the guts to play at all? SMCC is always looking for coaches, maybe you should stop by their AD’s office and inquire sometime. For about thousand dollars a year, an extra 40 hours a week on top of your regular job, not to mention make sure the kids have transportation to and from every practice every day, you can do it too! This team went 9-2, defeated 3 of the 4 playoff teams on their schedule, a top 10 defense, overcame injuries and missing almost half of their team and staff including their head coach and defensive coordinator to beat Airport, and took Lumen Christi to the limit. What else do you want from them?

Congratulations SMCC on a fine season. Do not let idiots on here take away from your experience.

      1. I am not a big SMCC fan at all, but have to agree, they had to deal with quite a bit this season and still had a great year.
Tip my hat to their coaching staff.
If you canā€™t beat them with injuries, COVID you just canā€™t beat them.

    1. Hey Gary, you want to walk down to the public address announcer and tell him to stop calling us Monroe or MCC? We are Saint Mary Catholic Central or smcc. I haven’t heard him call his team Jackson even once!
