  1. SMCC vs JLC for the district championship. Ouch! This should be the finals at Ford Field. What are your thoughts Gary? I’m also thinking Bedford could win a Regional crown. Playoff pairings are pretty weird this year though…

    1. Right,
It came down to one game. Brandywine in week 9. They won. Which pushed JLC east.
I look at it like this. It is unfortunate to play a tough schedule, as both SMCC and JLC did.
Only to have a very tough match-up in week 2. In which SMCC has to go on the road.
Even in D6, only 1 team has more POP than SMCC. So that part is unlucky and unfortunate.
Especially having to go on the road.

As far as having to play JLC. The road to FF on this side of the bracket, will go through Jackson.
Play them now, play them later, its going to happen. JLC isn’t a team that will go air raid and put up 50 points.
They are like SMCC, in that they try to wear you down with the run. Keep the clock moving and pound the rock.
So each possession will be at a premium, because there wont be many of them. With the score most likely being in the 20’s(or less), stealing a possession would be huge.
Which team can do that? Who has less drive killing penalties?

Both teams will have their hands full. But for now, they need to put all their focus on their current opponent.

      1. If you trust your POP system then you expect the #1 and #2 POP getters are at least among the top 2 teams in the state. You could argue there’s a couple of others that may be equal. Who runs a state tournament and puts #1 against #2 in a District final…assuming they both get past their first game. You could easily have swapped Brandywine for LC. That way they would meet at neutral site in a semi-final game…again, assuming they are both successful to that point. Yep, you have to concentrate on Friday for now but, dang, this makes no logical sense.

        1. They place teams in districts using proximity and ease of travel.

Could they do things differently, not to “punish” teams, probably.
This sort of thing happens every year. GRWC and GRCC for instance… and quite a few others.

System isnt perfect but to change it would mean more travel statewide.

I would like to see them seed teams by Regions 1-8. It wouldnt change things much, but it would allow
top teams to meet in the Regional final, not the district.
