Here are Chris’s thoughts after the week 3 games.
It’s hard to believe were already 3 weeks into the season. We’ve managed to avoid that pesky Covid bug thus far. Let’s pray it doesn’t effect anything the rest of the way. You have to love Michigan High School football!
Airport: Even after a loss, the Jets have to be excited to have All-FNV performer Nic Hammond back in the lineup.
Bedford: Very very good win for the Kicking Mules on the road over a solid Dexter team.
Carlson: A Tale of Two Halves.
Dundee: Sounds like the Dundee defense played very well forcing numerous turnovers against Ida.
Erie Mason: I’m not sure what the Eagles are yet. I anticipate a solid 6-3 season.
Flat Rock: Huge win for the “Mighty Rams”.
Grosse Ile: It’s an “odd year” for the Islanders.
Huron: Maybe the most talented 0-3 team in the state.
Ida: Maybe not the Ida team I expected this year, but 2-1 at this point is solid.
Jefferson: I got nothing.
Milan: Big Reds beat the trains, bridge and the Red Devils.
Monroe: The Trojans quietly sitting atop the SEC Red Standings with Saline up next.
Riverview: The Bucs offense was slowed a little bit, but the defense did it’s job.
SMCC: Falcons are unblemished, but better get healthy quick with Milan and Riverview up next.
Summerfield: Totally expected 2-1 record at this point for the Bulldogs.
Whiteford: Bobcats left no doubt early on against Madison.
Fridays are my favorite day once HS football starts. I enjoy HS football and the coaches and players put in the hard work and overcome adversity through out the season. Digital critics and bleachers coaches have their say on Saturdays but I don’t see fault in any program, because no one goes into Friday night planning on losing the game. Kids shine, talent is better at some schools but effort isn’t lacking in the preparation by any program. Give these kids and coaches credit because before you know it the season will be over and seniors will graduate and we will wait patiently for next season to begin.
Well said Drifter
Milan beats SMCC by 20 this week. I may or may not be The Troll…
Game 3 , so far;
Monroe-haven’t beaten anyone yet. We will see what you’re all about this week.
Bedford- nice win this week, not sure how Dexter took it to overtime.
Flat Rock – great win, back to reality this week.
Jefferson – I thought you might win at Flat Rock, not sure what to think now.
Carlson- see Monroe, however DL is weak and you are middle of the pack at best.
SMCC – you have 4 coaches that have been or could be a head coach and it shows. Hope you get healthy, next couple of weeks won’t get it with 2nd string starting.
Riverview- keeps churning along. The team to beat in the HL.
Milan- great coach and even greater coaching staff and it shows. They usually find a way.
Mason- should still be in the LCAA. Having a nice season so far.
Dundee- I think the Vikes are better than a lot of people thought. Keep working hard.
Ida- always tough and well coached. Is a factor in LCAA standings.
Grosse Ile – Odd year, enough said.
Huron- playoff hopes come down to game 1, not making 2 point conversion. Need to win out now. Tough thing to do.
Whiteford- Build a bigger trophy case. You are legit.
Summerfield- maybe down but always tough kids. They will be back.
Monroe has won 2 games. They play who is on their schedule. People always discredit every win they have when they have nothing else they can talk about. I do agree the competition will get very tough the next 4 weeks. Monroe’s toughest opponent is this coming week. Will they be ready? Will the coaches prepare the kids properly? Monroe has plenty of pieces to compete in my opinion. They haven’t beaten the Hornets since 2011, so it will take a great game plan and execution to beat them.
Ida is not going to factor in the LCAA standings. They will lose at least 2 of the next 3. Clinton is gonna be angry after losing to Hudson. Plus Hudson is legit. Oh and let’s not forget that Hillsdale is a problem for Ida too.
Kids from Allen Park thank u guys for the extra motivation this week
I highly doubt anyone needs motivation from us for a football game. I mean seriously, I saw some newspaper outlets that picked Allen Park to win. Did Carlson not get motivated by that. What about all the other games we picked? It doesn’t appear we provided any extra motivation for the teams we picked against. Most of them lost. Kids play for themselves and their teammates. The work is done during the off-season and during the week. When we make our picks, the hay is already in the barn.
Why in the world does Jefferson not go into the Wing T. ? The spread has not and will not work there. They are losing kids and need to get back to simple football.
With the kids they have old school offense will work while controlling the clock.
Please see 2016 when you qualified and almost upset Milan In the playoffs running off tackle right and left with counter and trap mixed in.
Stop listening to all the guys with backwards hats on the sidelines that think the spread is cool. Winning is cool and more kids will come out if you’re competitive and win.
I wonder if you qualify as a guy with backwards hats on the sideline?
I’d love to come on your show and draw up X and O’s
I want to see Chris, Frank and Gary align to formations, and I’ll wear my hat backwards
That is tempting. Would we just refer to you as anonymous? I don’t think any of us have claimed to be great football coaches, but I can assure you that we are not the neophytes that you think we are.
My thoughts
Carlson- Humble pie needed to be served and it was. Love the excitement but go about your business quietly.
Airport- They are lucky to have Tim Duffy Jr , I think he’s forgot more football than all of his staff combo
FR- Rams find a way with late stop against the Bears who did them a favor by running the spread
Jefferson- Need to find a way to get back under center and play smash mouth football. I hope they stay healthy for week 9
Huron- Have the talent to win out. The reality is that they could also go 4-5/3-6
Riverview- Nice program, very nice team. Too bad they’re D3. Not sold that they’re Top 5 in D3
Monroe- they said they wanted Saline and expect to beat them, Time to put up and beat someone that you shouldn’t
Bedford- To me the Best team you guys cover. Mules keep it going this week
Whiteford- D8 isn’t very good but Whiteford is. If healthy they walk to a state title
SMCC- Weathered the storm, this week we find out if they can compete to win their first HL title since 2015
Erie Mason- poor decision to leave LCAA. I do like what Coach B is doing
Ida- Depth is a concern, so are turnovers. Look for them to beat Clinton this week
Dundee- My surprise team in the region has the best QB in the LCAA.. should win their next 2 and have a chance to sneak in at 5-4
Summerfield- my favorite team in the county , Coach Lipka does a great job with the shorthanded Bulldogs
GI- watch Coach Bodner and the young Devils find a way to win 5…. You heard it here first
Milan- Jesse Hoskins counts his blessings every night.. amongst those are his staff and always having a very good QB ..THE BEST COACHING STAFF IN THE AREA
D8 isn’t very good?
Have you watched Hudson, Centreville, Sand Creek, Addison, Reading?
Of course D8 teams dont have 1,800 kids to pick from, but that doesnt mean they aren’t coached well.
Great football in D8!
GI had better win this week if they are to get to 5.
Pretty well stated!
Couple big games next week, hope SMCC is healthy and their coaches are ok to go.
This COVID stuff scares me.
Give SMCC credit. To lose coaches and a few players to Covid sucks. That’s a good win. But it’s funny what some people say. They were not without 5 staters on each side. That’s just not true. Gary can prob confirm. Did a few kids not play? Yes. But don’t make it sound like they were missing their entire team. My guess is this is the same person who said that 20 kids were out last week on an earlier thread. That wasn’t true either.
We’re their guys out for both games? Yes. But why just throw crazy lies out? There were a couple guys out for the AP game. And that sucks. But it wasn’t five starters on both sides of the ball. With that being said. To lose your play caller and DC. That’s a rough deal. Props to coach Mac and the staff for getting shit done.
No matter how many players were missing that was a great game to watch all the way to the last couple of plays
