Playoffs Week 2 Questions with FNV Staff

Which score/result surprised you the most?

Chris: I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the final score of Summerfield 29 Detroit Southeastern 20. I figured the 2-5 Bulldogs would be easy prey for the 6-1 Detroit Division 3/4 League Champion Jungaleers.

Gary: Huron taking it to Allen Park a little bit. I thought this game would go down to the wire but the Chiefs took care of business in impressive fashion.

Frank: I never really expected Summerfield to knock off Southeastern. Give Alex Lipka’s bunch credit for knocking off a Jungaleers team that was in our Division 8 top ten during the regular season. This is also the first time since 2011 that the Bulldogs have won two playoff games, and will now get a rematch against arch-rival Whiteford in the District Finals. What makes this more impressive is that the Bulldogs only won one game in the regular season. Are things coming together at the right time? Stay tuned.

Which out of area score/result surprised you the most?

Chris: Rockford Rams rocking the Hudsonville Eagles 42-7 really grabbed my attention. These two teams are bitter OK Conference Red Division rivals that always seemed to play each other close.

Gary: Sand Creek defeating Hudson 60-0. I thought the Aggies would win but not in a lopsided game such as this. D8 is going to be fun in the next few weeks.

Frank:  I am tempted to go with Grand Blanc over Clarkston, since the Wolves were picked to win it all by Chris, but I will go with Jackson Lumen Christi being Riverview Gabriel Richard by 21. Count me as someone who thought Herb Brogan’s club was dead in the water after going 2-4 in the regular season, but reports of the Titans’ demise have been greatly exaggerated. The Titans will make a trip to the friendly confines of Navarre Field for a meeting with SMCC to battle for a district championship.

Which upcoming FNV area game intrigues you the most?

Chris: The Grosse Ile (5-3) @ Summit Academy (7-1) game really appeals to me. Both teams have athletic high scoring offenses which should keep the scoreboard and crowd buzzing all night long.

Gary: I’m excited to see a second Huron League team get their shot at River Rouge. Maybe Riverview softened them up a bit and Huron can finish the job.

Frank: Regular season rematches are always fun, especially when it’s two bitter rivals. Summerfield and Whiteford will battle it out for a district championship in Ottawa Lake. The Bobcats have won the previous three postseason meetings. Will history repeat itself, or will the Bulldogs’ new found life carry them to an upset?

Which upcoming out of area game intrigues you the most?

Chris: Without a doubt for me would be Mason (8-0) @ DeWitt (8-0). Two great teams battling it out for a District Championship in arguably the toughest pound for pound division (3) in the state of Michigan.

Gary: Again so many great games to choose from, I’m going to go with Montague at Muskegon Catholic Central. The winner of this game has the easiest path to the finals.

Frank:  I’ll stay with the district which I’ve been following a lot of the action in, and that’s District 47. Blissfield handed Clinton their only loss this season back in Week 3. Now the Redskins are getting healthy with Jack Voll and Brayden Randolph back from injuries. The winner of this district has a decent chance at a Semifinal, and maybe even a trip to the Final.

  1. I was shocked by the saline and aa Huron game didn’t see that coming at all

I know it’s out of area but they play area teams

    1. I think Huron finally has found a coach that has connected with the kids. In my opinion, one of the biggest changes is he works in the building. As an alum I hope he keeps it going! Good luck this weekend to all the FNV teams still playing

  2. Clinton beats Blissfield handily and Whiteford goes on to the regional championship … setting the stage a TCC rematch in the semi-final.

      1. I didn’t think there was the remotest possibility that Summerfield would beat Southeastern so I’m open to anything at this point…Seriously, I don’t know what their chances are against Everest , or even if SC will get that far. Just wishful thinking on my part.

        1. Given the current climate, you never know who is going to be out of the game due to Covid related issues. One player at the D8 level can make a difference.
