2019 was a big year for SMCC, taking them all the way to Ford Field, defeating Glen Lake 7-0, en route to a D6 State Title. Coach Kipf’s Thoughts: “We are a young team this year. We will have 24 underclassmen including 8-9 sophomores up. We will have to grow up quickly in order to survive. Both sides of the ball we have had to slow down a little bit and coach up our kids on how to run our system. The league looks to be balanced this year. Just about every team has the talent and potential to win on any given Friday. Should be a fun, challenging year for everyone.“
FNV Outlook: 2020 brings a season of many new things, especially for the Falcons. Plenty of new faces coupled with a new division, SMCC must put behind them the glory of 2019, if they are to soar to great things in 2020. It is an odd thing coming off a state title, you never want to forget how great it felt, yet there is so much work to be done, with all new players in so many positions. It isn’t an easy task balancing the two, but nobody is feeling sorry for the defending D6 State Champs. This could be a season where SMCC will need to find themselves early and gain momentum as the season progresses. I for one, believe that will be the case.
