I was also on the 4-5 team, the lats cc team not to make the playoffs, since like early 2010s I believe. that was such a challenging year and such a depressing one. cuz we had some good kids on that squad man. we had Kevin laprad who could run you over but also juke you out. we the had the D end duo of O’Brien and Haut. Btw. now watching Flint and Gullen for all these years guys. who was a better duo. Haut and O’Brien or Flint and Gullen. I realize Haut and O’Brien played one year together because Haut wanted to focus on basketball and he’s now at the Air Force Academy and O’Brien had shoulder surgery. So who do y’all think is better?
Chris. You’ve seen central dominate like this before. 2015 szn. The team that lost to Clinton first round of playoffs. That should of been a Ford field team
Are you talking about the 8-2 Falcon team that lost to 13-1 Clinton? They could have been a Ford Field team if Clinton would have not been in their way. Of course they would have had to beat Madison Heights Madison, Jackson Lumen Christi and Northpointe Christian. It would have been a tall order to get there.
2015 was the HL champion.. undefeated. I would say 15 is certainly comparable to 19. Clinton crushed the teams you mentioned if my mind serves me right.
I think top to bottom this years SMCC team is deeper and has bigger stars. Plus, Coach Kipf is a seasoned veteran as opposed to a 1st year head coach. I also think that the 2015 Huron League slate was a little easier. Riverview, Huron and SMCC all lost in the first round. Milan caught a little fire with a good draw.
yes you are correct Gary. They rolled through the next few teams beating them by 20 plus. yes, we would of still had to show up but I would of liked our odds.
stars from that team. Justin LaPlante best year from him. was mobile fist and made smart plays. Riley Woolford animal. Justin carrabino shifty quick. a young Collin Woolford but a dang good football player. I would say the 15 team and the 19 team have about the same fire power.
would also totally agree that coach Kipf has gotten way better as a play caller. I was with him his first year to his third year. you could see the improvement of calling plays.
That was a very good Clinton team. They beat whiteford 36-18 in week 9 before whiteford went to the semifinals. Then they beat SMCC 14-10 on a last minute big play touchdown by Sexton. They beat MHM 43-20 in district final, JLC 49-20 in regional final, GRNPChristian 42-20 in semis, and lost to Ithaca 27-20 at Ford field. Each team matches up differently but id say that that SMCC team was up there with the rest.
The interesting thing is Onsted has seen 4 T teams (Ida, Dundee, Hudson & Hillsdale) this season. I will note that Onsted has not seen a T like SMCC. Central runs things a lot tighter in the backfield and I think Onsted will get lost in the fakes. This one will be ground out in the trenches. I think SMCC will impose their will, but they cannot be looking forward to next week or they will be done. They have a great staff to keep these boys heads on straight. I think its a three score game 28 to 7 Falcons.
