Varsity Athletic Week 9 Players of the Week

Luke Harwood, RB, Grosse Ile: Harwood has found a home here on our POTW posts. The senior put an exclamation point on an incredible regular season by rushing 32 times for 214 yards and two touchdowns, and caught three passes for 29 yards in a 29-13 win over Dearborn Heights Crestwood. The Red Devils are 9-0 for the first time in school history as they prepare for the playoffs.
Alex Morgan, RB, SMCC: Morgan turned in a breakout performance in a 30-10 win over Pontiac Notre Dame Prep, as he rushed for 266 yards and two scores. The win likely gives the Falcons at least one playoff game at Navarre Field, and also matched last season’s win total.
Hunter Aeschbacker, RB, Milan: Aeschbacker put an exclamation point on a strong regular season, as he rushed for 163 yards and five touchdowns in a 56-28 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln. The Big Reds will likely get a home game to open the playoffs.
Jake Weilnau, RB, Ida: Weilnau continued his string of strong performances with a 125 rushing yard and a score night in a 38-14 win over Blissfield. The Blue Streaks have recorded seasons of at least seven wins for six straight seasons, and will likely get a home playoff game for the fourth time in the last five seasons.
Austin Malabanan, QB, Bedford: Malabanan decided to put the game on his shoulders, and the Mules reaped the rewards. The senior rushed for 187 yards and two scores in a 40-22 win over Goldwater to give the Mules a 5-4 record on the season, and a potential spot in the playoffs.
