Carlson finished the season with a convincing 45-6 victory over Lincoln Park, which led to a Downriver League Co-Championship. The Marauders enter the playoffs for the 2nd consecutive year under 2nd year Head Coach Jack Giarmo. Trenton ended the regular season with a solid 48-7 victory over Edsel Ford while qualifying for the playoffs for the 5th consecutive season under long-time Head Coach Bob Czarnecki. These two teams met in week 2 as Carlson took a highly contested 35-24 victory.
Carlson: 8-1 (8-1, Downriver League)
Record vs. Playoff Teams: 3-1
Carlson is led on both sides of the ball by highly touted college recruit Ian Stewart. The 6-3, 185 lb junior has rushed for nearly 700 yards and leads the team in tackles. His brothers Brandon and Bryce have combined for another 1,500 yards and 27 TD’s on the ground. Blocking for the Marauders rugged running game is provided by seniors Cameron Briggs and Justin Barger. Defensively, seniors Walter Turner Jr. and Jonathan Apostolvich along with juniors Dylan Magoon and Dylan Rakoczy lead a unit which is giving up 17 ppg.
Trenton is led on offense by Jay Solano. The senior QB is arguably the best QB in the area. He has thrown for nearly 2000 yards and 21 TD’s. RB Evan Adams leads the rushing attack with 736 yards and 11 TD’s. The team has two excellent receivers in Gabe Doree and Angelo Czarnecki. The duo has combined for over 1,200 yards and 16 TD’s on 66 receptions. Seniors Zach Conti and Andrew Kruzlemski along with junior Paul Durand provided the upfront blocking for the offense, which is averaging 33 ppg. On defense, Doree leads the team in tackles with 111 along with 4 interceptions. Other key defensive players are seniors DE Ethan Riley and LB Max Hatty.
This should be another entertaining game, much like week 2 of the season. Carlson will run the ball out of the straight T while Trenton will mix up the offense with a diverse attack.
