Detroit Cody @ Milan 7 pm Friday

By Chris Schultz

This is the first ever meeting between Cody and Milan. The Comets have a overall playoff record of 2-9 and enter the playoffs fresh off of a 20-16 loss to Detroit Denby. The Big Reds defeated rival Ypsi Lincoln 54-28 last week and have an overall playoff record of 13-17.

Milan: 7-2 (5-2, Huron)

Record vs. playoff teams: 1-2

Milan is led by veteran coach and 2001 Milan graduate Jesse Hoskins. This is the fourth straight playoff appearance for the Big Reds and the sixth in the last seven years. Offensively Milan is led by senior QB Dyllan Jones, who has thrown for over 1,500 yards and 14 TD’s. Senior RB Hunter Aeschbacker averages over 100 yards per game and has 15 rushing TD’s. Junior Tristin Hines is arguably the best 2 way player around as he has rushed for 532 yards and 10 TD’s and has hauled in 45 pass receptions and 8 TD’s on offense while leading Milan with 70 tackles and 2 interceptions. Junior DE Cray Pennington is a 230 lb beast who is one of the better defensive players in the Huron League.

Cody: 6-3 (2-2, DPSL Green)

Record vs. playoff teams: 2-2

Cody has been to the playoffs for the third consecutive season. The Comets are led by “do everything” Alexander White. The 5-11, 170 lb junior has rushed for 926 yards and 9 TD’s, thrown for 232 yards and 5 TD’s while making 55 tackles on defense. Sophomore QB Tragene William has throw for another 550 yards. The offensive line is led by 6-2, 250 lb senior DeAndre Turner and 5-10, 260 lb senior Keiff Bonner. On defense, senior LB Joseph Thomas leads the way along with senior DE William Gibson and senior LB Isiah Clack. All three of those seniors are three year starters.

This is an interesting match up between two good teams. The Comets are senior heavy in the trenches while the Big Reds boast an athletic backfield. This could come down to which team makes the least amount of mistakes.

Chris’s Pick: Milan 35 Cody 32
Gary’s Pick: Milan 28 Cody 21
Frank’s Pick: Milan 27 Cody 21
