Thoughts and Questions

Sorry Gary

Looks like Frank might be off on his Jets prediction.

Maybe the Mules are down?

We will find out about Dundee next week.

You win by running the football at every level.

Can Flat Rock win enough to get to 6 wins?

Red Devils are making my 6-3 prediction look pretty good right now.

Don’t get cute, just punt the ball.

Ida just reloads.

Bears play hard, I hope they get one.

Anyone else think I should have just went to the Milan/SMCC game late instead not at all?

Solid win for the Trojans.

Riverview has some huge linemen.

How many has SMCC lost like that over the years?

Huge game next week for Bulldogs.

A hundred to nothing?

Huron League race should be fun.

My Spartans looked “not good” at times yesterday.

Will the best coach in college football finally get a quality road win?

Lions look bad.

  1. I don't know why someone is saying Bridgeport was anything special. I watched the game. They had big fast kids that were good athletes. No different then Chandler Park (who is much, much better). Bridgeport looked like a middle of the road PSL team, nothing more. Like SMCC did to Chandler Park, Milan out-coached them regardless if they were bigger, faster, and/or more athletic. It is good to play teams like that to help you prepare for teams you''ll see out of your league once the playoffs comes around.

  2. Milan was not way bigger than SMCC. I think they were very comparable. CC had some absolute monsters on the line. LG #72 was the biggest kid on the field. TE #84 was a monster and really impressive along with the other TE and Mike Backer #28 who was an exceptional HS Football player. The outside backer #52 was also a big kid and a really good football player. Milan really struggled to get anything going outside in the run game because of him.

CC is a very good football team. I was impressed by them all-around They will do some serious damage in D-6 or D-7. I could see them winning a regional or possibly going further if they stay healthy.

  3. I agree that the chop blocking should be illegal at all levels. I know that most coaching staffs refuse to do it or teach it. With that being said, it does cause a problem for teams that play power football. Just creates a giant pile and clogs the running lanes. It is legal, so you just have to deal with it. Personally, I just think it's petty. If you can't beat someone by playing man to man, you don't deserve to win. Just one person's opinion.

  4. Grubbing should be illegal….absolutely ridiculous technique to teach/use. Any staff teaching this should be ashamed and embarrassed. Man on Man….toughen up sissys

  5. Wow 9:57AM you should be ashamed. It sound like you are asking for it. Everybody is yelling at you. Milan has better athletes than CC. Its means the same thing as Bridgeport has better athletes than Milan or the rest of the HL. Athletes are athletes. Bridgeport players with CC coaches win the HL. Jimmy the greek comment is embarrassing.

  6. If CC was cutting the knees every play then those big linemen should’ve laid on top of them every single time. If you get your legs taken out your allowed to plop right on top of them and make it hurt a little. If it’s not a penalty it must be OK to do right? I think it’s a great game plan. The Milan linemen outweighed CC by 75-100 pounds. (Most of them)

  7. Airport is also playing a “couple” players short against Huron. Airport will hopefully win but it won’t be easy.

  8. Grubbing- or diving at legs is a great strategy. I've seen several teams do this. As a former coach teams would do this against us and I would be glad because you're not getting a pass rush and they're not in pursuit on run plays. Your oline guys can work around it and get to the next level and bust huge plays.

  9. Calm down ALL CAPS. We all know what you mean by Bridgeports " athletes". You sound like Jimmy the Greek.

Football isn't track. There is more to being an athlete than being big or fast. I dont need ALL CAPS to know that.

  10. 1:04 AM When I did chain gang for the jv game milan/cc . The cc kids were saying helmets on knees, helmets on knees on the sidelines.

  11. POSTER 3:48. AESCHBACKER HAD MORE YARDS RUSHING WITH LESS CARRIES AGAINST CC THAN HINES AND AESCHBACKER HAD RUSHING AND RECEIVING COMBINED AGAINST BRIDGEPORT. CC HAS THE BEST COACHES AROUND. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT MR FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE????

P.S. BRIDGEPORT HAS BETTER PLAYERS, CC HAS BETTER COACHES. JUST DEAL WITH IT!!!

  12. I think it's it's funny how some post are not posted. SMCC cutting the Milan guards every play lol. Why not facts? Makes me wonder about this blog? I posted nothing bad. I just wanted to hear opinions on why SMCC cuts o lineman every play when they play Milan? The film tells all

    Come on Chris

  13. 3:48 ITS NOT EVEN WORTH MY TIME TO TRY AND EXPLAIN. WATCH THE FILM. TEAM DEFENSE VS INDIVIDUALS PLAYING DEFENSE FOR THEIR OWN STATS. THERE WAS NO ONE FROM CC RUNNING ANYONE DOWN FROM MILAN. SOMEONE PLEASE HELP EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE. I WILL AGREE HL PLAYS BETTER TEAM D THAN BRIDGEPORT, BUT BRIDGEPORT HAS BETTER ATHLETES THAT DO NOT PLAY TOGETHER. THAT'S WHY IT'S CALLED A FOOTBALL TEAM AND NOT FOOTBALL INDIVIDUALS.

  14. 8:32 let's not get cocky. Airport might be favored the next 2 games, but they are definitely not scrimmages. Let's not forget, Huron has beat Airport 5 straight years. EM

  15. Airport is about to be 2-2 after their next 2 scrimmages. Week 5 with FR tells the tale for both teams. FR coming off a murderous stretch in Week 5. The door will be open for both teams.

  16. 10:11 poster shows little knowledge of HS football. Just because a team is big and scary looking doesn't mean that they're more physical. That's a good thing that the Huron League teams are nothing like the Bridgeport defense. Huron League defenses are actually good. Huron league kids know how to hit. Huron League teams win playoff games. Bridgeport, well not so much. But they're big and scary looking so watch out…. Watch them give up 35 points a game. So athletic. Lol

  17. Poster 5:59. I really don't think anyone said Bridgeports D was stout or a brick wall. People said, Bridgeports D was big, fast, physical, athletic and mean. I said it and I'll say it again. Milan will not face a D like Bridgeports in the HL. Bridgeports D is way bigger, way faster, way more physical, and way more athletic than CC or any other defense in HL but they play individually, not TEAM defense.

  18. Sorry to hear about Milan as well…Football is a tough game. Hate to see hardworking young men getting injured. Hopefully he makes it back and is ready to go,

    -The Monroe Trojans

  19. Remember when the SMCC fans would be on here complaining about chop blocks on their linemen? I remember. How times have changed

  20. I know it’s been said but I want to reiterate: NO SENIOR should have their final season cut this short. Love to the CC player and his family as I’m sure he’s still struggling to process what has happened.

  21. Bridgeport gave up another 35 points this weekend. The argument about their “stout” defense isn’t valid if you ask me.

  22. Best wishes to the Milan player who Was also transported to the hospital last night with a shoulder injury. Haven't heard a final diagnosis yet but a pretty good chance his football season is over as well.

Give credit where credit is due, the SMCC defensive front that a lot of chop blocking of the Milan lineman which then creates a pile in the middle of the field. That creates trouble for teams that want to run the ball between the tackles. Saint Mary's did a great job of plugging those options up forcing the big red's to be creative offensively.

That was perhaps the best high school football game I've watched in person in years.

  23. Hope and Prayers for SMCC senior Marino that he may have a speedy recovery and that he DID NOT play in his last football game. Keep your head high young man. JBR.

  24. Bedford and coach wood seem to have a cycle he walkways has a down season about every 3/4 years and this isn’t that season, just go look up the recent seasons records.
Bedford will beat huron and skyline and that’s prolly all they win this season.

  25. CHRIS you make no sense when you say CC has such a brilliant coaching staff yet they continue to give up 4th and forever passes at the end of games….coaches can be criticized, don't be such a sissy. When will CC learn you can't cover big receivers with little corners

  26. Respect and sympathy from View on your SMCC senior. Nobody wants to see any players injured. Hoping for a healthy recovery.

  27. The 2011 Airport Jets had 13 kids over 200 pounds and another 5 over 190 pounds. Where’s the beef??

The Nothing But The Truth Troll

  28. Very surprised the Milan/CC game was that close. Not trying to take anything away from CC but Bridgeports players on D in week 1 were way more athletic and physical but played individually. I think this proves SMCC has the best coaching staff in the HL. They used TEAM DEFENSE, all 11 players to stop Milan. I really believed Milan was going to win big and make a statement. Hats off to SMCC staff and players. JBR

  29. 11:04 AM, thank you, great post. It was an amazing game. Wishing a quick recovery to the injured player. On to next week for both teams.
    Milan Mom

  30. If people want Coach Wood at Bedford gone, I hope you get what you deserve and go back to being an average at best program. Coach Wood is a great coach and an even better person. Sometimes you just have a run of bad luck or lesser talent. It happens at every single high school in America.

Not criticizing the SMCC staff because they have obviously been very successful but someone with football knowledge please explain to me the point of having your defensive linemen dive at the legs of Milan's offensive line when its 4th and 15? It just seemed to me like a waste of defensive linemen who could pass rush instead but what do I know?

    Huron League questions
Can Jefferson win a game this year? Their only shot seems to maybe be Airport or Flat Rock now.
Will SMCC start off 0-2 in the league?
Trap game for Milan this week?
Is it true that another school's AD is helping coach Huron?

The Huron League and LCAA are both setting up for exciting seasons!

  31. Saturday morning and I’m still disgusted by the Airport loss to GI. I watched a good football game last night between CC and Milan. My take from that game was CC doesn’t have bigger linemen than Airport but they nearly beat a very good Milan team that was nearly the same size as Monroe High. How? Because of running the T to near perfection. Because of discipline instilled in those kids by the coaches to run that offense to near perfection. Never once did I see either team get the ball down in the red zone and call a pass play on 2nd and 5. The only turnover in the game was a turnover on downs on the failed CC field goal attempt. It was a great game between 2 very well coached teams. Sure would be nice to watch the Airport Jets play to there full potential.

Quite Possibly One Of The Trolls

  32. The linemen from View are not only big but quick of the ball
And from the talk of the town there getting a huge piece back in 2-3 weeks on both O and D

  33. I feel a need to interject a dose of reality here. Last night there was a football game played and there was a winner and a loser in each and everyone of those games, and today there are critics of all the calls, officials, coaches and even the young men who play the game. But there is a another part of the game that deserves a bigger spotlight. These players suit up to play a game they love and leave it all on the field for us critics to have a Friday evening filled with cheers and jeers. They give 110% and leave it all on the field and unfortunately that has been costly for one young man last night. SMCC has lost senior Nick Marino due to a collarbone issue, but more than that he is a senior and more than likely will not play another snap of high school football. This is a young man that overcame past injuries and worked hard to be on the field because the game of fall was his passion. So as we bicker back and forth about play calls, penalties, blown calls and all the other things we can’t control from the stands, let’s remember these players have pride in their work and should be shown gratitude from the spectators for their efforts. I want to wish Nick a speedy recovery and wish all the players that put on the pads luck and safe games ahead. Hold your heads high boys, regardless of the end result, because these years go by fast and will make you spectators before you know it. Enjoy the game and keep it fun. Because I know Nick had fun and it ended too soon for him.

  34. Where can I go to hear 98.3’s reaction to Milan’s game winner last night? I wanna hear the play by play for the last 2 minutes.

  35. What’s going on at Bedford? I am hearing coach on the hot seat. Many parents upset. Is there anyone from Bedford even on here to address these issues or provide insight?
