Milan 2018 Season Preview and Prediction

Milan is coming off of an injury filled 5-5 season that saw the Big Reds qualify for the playoffs for the ninth time in the last 11 years. Coach Jesse Hoskins is back for his 8th season as head coach at his Alma Mater.

Milan returns some major components from a season ago and should be high powered. QB DJ Jones is back after missing 6 games with a season ending leg injury. Also back is one of the best RB’s in the Huron League in junior Hunter Aeschbacker. The offensive line returns Chris Beck, Jared Smith, Sam Lewallen and Trey McCormack.

Defensively, the Big Reds return 5 starters from a unit that gave up quite a few points last season, but it does include defensive standout Tristen Hines. Cray Pennington and Beck return on the defensive line while Darren Markowski and Aeschbacker are expected to contribute at LB.

This could be a big year for Milan. Injuries really hampered Milan’s depth last season and that hopefully won’t be an issue this season. Milan has all the ingredients to make a run at the Huron League title this year that includes; star power, coaching and depth.

Chris’s Pick: 7-2
Gary’s Pick: 7-2
Frank’s Pick: 6-3

  1. The "overlooked" comment was not directed at Gary/Chris/Frank but moreso to some of the members of the Anonymous family and fans of other teams. Invariably, on most threads there is some variation of a poster who says their team will beat your team. Of course you then get the pushback from someone else saying my team will beat your team. It looked like that was starting here and I just wanted to get past that. When my team plays your team, we'll see how things go. I enjoy being the hunter than the hunted, but that's me.

In my eyes, there's nothing unfair at all with the preview of the Big Reds on this blog. Milan has a challenging non-conference schedule and the HL is always a gauntlet.

  2. It is very possible that Milan could lose 2 league games and drop the last one to Ypsi Lincoln. 7-2, 6-3, is not a slap in the face… those are legit possibilities. Could Milan do better than that… sure. keep in mind it is very hard to go 9-0.
