  1. From what I’ve heard Baas got the heck out of AP and teaching altogether. Parents had Facebook posts and a twitter account spewing negative rhetoric. . Funny how they act so supportive on here for their team and coach when some of those same people still have kids on the team. The AD hired brother and father then inserts himself as OC. all a coincidence? I’m sure AD and family had never discussed this. As they say on ESPN, C’Mon man!

1053 likely an administrator at AP.

  2. Every post is an Airport post. I put my 2 cents in on Airport comments because that's the school I'm associated with. Trust me I would love for the Airport comments to stop.

  3. Troll-is it just me or does it seem like you have to throw your 2 cents in on every post? You can lay low every once in a while—it won’t bother us!! But I’m sure you’ll just “keep on keeping on”!

  4. Is it just me or does it seem like a lot of Airport people take a lot of these posts way out of context? Every Airport message is so blown out of proportion. Keep the panties from bunching up people. Just remember-rainbows and butterflies!!!

  5. Thank you 7:01
We have a great Coach in Jim Duffy and the boys love him. It’s a select group of parents that really need to lay off and look at the big picture! Everyone wants their son to be the superstar and it just doesn’t work that way. The Coaches are doing their best with the team that they have. Airport has come a long way this season. A new coach was in no means a promise for an undefeated season. Coach Duffy is building on what he has. Please…..let these boys have the last two weeks to play some high school football and do the best job they can. Lay off the coach-he’s one of the good ones people.

  6. @7:01 – you are wrong on multiple counts. In 60 years of Airport football, there have been 3 alumnus who were head football coach. Jim Whiteside in 1960's, Chad Baas (previous coach) and Jim Duffy (current coach). Over the past 30-40 years the coaches have included Darrell Mossburg Sr., (Bedford grad), Steve Molnar (Riverview), a seond Mossburg stint, Eric Redmond (Monroe), and Adam Barber (Ypsilanti High). The last 30 years has seen the most sustained success in program history, primarily in the Redmond era. In the case of the current coach, the most qualified applicant was selected, and it was a choice between 2 very qualified alumnus who had both gained extensive and valuable coaching experience at other Huron League schools. They both wanted to return to Airport and lead the football program at their alma mater. Admirable goal. If you are going to make broad brush statements about program status and history, at least know what you are talking about and be accurate.

  7. Wing T is a great offense, Full house t is a great offense, double wing is a great offense, spread is a great offense, and I is a great offense if you have the joes to make it work. Airport has went from 2 1 win seasons to having a great season. Doesn't matter who his alma matter is.
    Riverview fan

  8. A culture change isn’t replacing one alumni for another who runs the exact same systems. But like others have indicated, it would break the AP code to actually hire the most qualified. This has been going on there for the past 30 years.

  9. As a riverview fan I agree with you 1:46. I think there is no place for ANY berating of any coach or team or player. This is H.S. football. Let them have fun and point out the positives. No place for negatives in H.S. football. H.S. football is suppose to teach these boys many lessons that will help as they become men. All of this berating hurts those lessons. Enjoy the blog and if you don't have something positive to say then don't comment.

  10. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m an Airport parent who is 100% behind the coaching staff and 100% behind my son. Apparently we weren’t around for all of this turmoil that occurred on the blog. Kind of glad we weren’t. We love the Airport team and support the coaching staff. The berating needs to end!!

  11. To me, the Wing-T would seem to be a good offense for smaller linemen who can angle block and pull, instead of asking them to manhandle a defensive lineman and steer him out of the hole. Limiting their snaps to one side of the ball and rotating them in and out should help to keep those linemen fresher. If there is a difference in strength, a fresher line would help that difference not become worse late in games.

You can be down about the results in individual games, but the reasoning behind these philosophical decisions seems solid to me.

  12. That sad part about the Airport saga is that most of the comments on this blog are directed at the irrational parents – NOT THE KIDS! I'm certain that those kids work very hard and there is a bunch of talented kids on that squad. Maybe the parents shouldn't have claimed JV dominance in the past? Maybe the parents shouldn't have claimed the league championship in September? Maybe the parents shouldn't criticize the coaches or kids other than their own now that adversity has hit the team. Just stop!

  13. News flash people, Airport is coming off of back to back 1-8 seasons maybe just maybe they aren't as talented as some of you think. Is there talent there? Absolutely, but there are other factors holding this team back and it was definitely exploited last Friday. Aculture change was obviously needed and it isn't going to happen overnight. The fact that they've won a few more games and been more competitive should be seen as a positive but apparently not in this word we live in where it seems to be easier to just tear people(coaches, programs, etc) down.

  14. In this situation bigger doesn’t mean better! My son is one of those lineman! I am darn proud of him! He gives up at least 50 lbs a week to the guy on the other side of the ball! Those kids have 4 days of practice a week to take his spot! That said let’s go and put those shoulder pads on strap on our cleats and play HARD AS HELL for these last two games! 5-4 season we could build on! GO JETS!!!!

  15. Not only do you have bigger lineman on the sidelines when we're on offense, but also those lineman that don't play offense are shuttling in and out every couple plays so they're getting breaks. Why aren't they playing both ways?? I understand it's grueling but they should be in the best shape of their lives. I support the Airport Jets 100%. I just don't agree with everything they do 100%. Thus making this blog the perfect place to voice an opinion.

  16. As a parent of AP it bothers me that my son who is an underclass man doesn't want to play football anymore because of the same stuff that has been going on for the last several years. He does play but is tied of losing. He started out the season as did all the players with very high hopes only to see them get crushed every week because we are not even competitive out there. As I sit in the stands I see all the big guys standing on the sidelines when we are on offense and wonder why,I'm told the line can only play one side of the ball I think that's crazy. When we are on offense the other team shifts when we line up as if they all ready know the play we are going to run we are very predictable. It would be great to hire a non alumni one of these years but that would never happen because they are liable to throw out the holy grail (airport playbook) that has been around for generations. These are a great group guys that will continue to play the way they are coached and give it there all till the whistle blows for the season. On this blog we get a lot of grief but no one will ever get it unless they go through all that these kids have. I give them all the credit to continue to fight so hard. GO JETS

  17. Young and/or inexperienced QBs are not ideal, especially against teams that bring pressure from every direction. I believe that Speight would have fared better than O'Korn (backup for a reason) and could have made the difference in a close game. I have more of an issue with the offensive line, myself, but the QB position always comes with it's own high expectations. I take nothing away from the Green and White, they did what they needed to do to win that game.

  18. Having been on both sides of success and failure in this league I really like what the blog begins with a few exceptions. I sometimes feel that this is just a place to air out dirty laundry when a parent thinks a coach should be playing their son. I also don't care for when anything saying that a team can't tackle, block, throw or run is let through. I don't think Chris or Gary do this but I think too much is let through. You are basically attacking the kids on that team. These are still high school kids who most will never play beyond high school. The last thing that I don't agree with is that coach bashing is allowed. Allowing this does nothing but tear teams apart. This is airports first year with a new coach and there is already coach bashing on here. Even coach bashing of coaches that aren't there anymore. I think this site does a lot of great things by highlighting our league and our players but I don't think anything negative should be allowed because this is still just high school football.

  19. How come we're in year 3 with Harbaugh and we don't have a QB?? One would think a stud of a redshirt Freshman would be in there running the show by now. Instead we rely on 5th year seniors and garbage transfers. O'Korn is the best we can get?? TERRIBLE!!! Speight is terrible too!!

  20. Anonymous post are like people's alter ego. Like dressing up at a Halloween party and acting silly because nobody really knows who you are. If you put a name to the post, nobody would show up to the party.

  21. Anonymous Power Rankings (based on now as teams have changed):
Bedford's only lose is to Saline.
Carlson keeps winning but hasn't played Wyandotte.
Riverview's choo choo hasn't slowed since Flat Rock.
Ida won convincingly over both Hudson and Blissfield.
Milan is still playing tough and winnig even w injuries.
SMCC lost early without their starting MLB and they are back.
Flat Rock is solid but you can't just replace an All-League MLB who also kicks.
Huron's talent is deep, but can they play together?
Monroe would not compete in the Huron league this year.
Grosse Ile is young and has improved since playing Airport.
Jefferson would beat a number of teams if they could play them twice.
Airport's internal issues go beyond the coaching staff.
Dundee only looked good on paper pre-season.
Erie Mason should be really good in two years.

  22. I honestly think the blog is much more moderated now than what it was years ago. Chris and Gary transformed this into the classy blog compared to what it use to be. Imagine what they're reading and not letting go through for all of us to read.

  23. Obviously there are comments that are a little rough on the kids or the coaches from anonymous people but it goes on from every school. It's not just Airport. Getting rid of anonymous posts would ruin this blog. Unfortunately not everything is rainbows and butterflies for all of the teams in the area and some people let their frustrations get the best of them. Another hot topic with Airport right now is the "I told you so" mentality. A lot of people predicted this losing streak with the tough part of the schedule and they're definitely letting them know about it.

  24. Well I’m glad at least you will. We both know that shultzy won’t pick against his chiefs… he loves the Ohio flavor!

  25. So I assume you are gonna pick Huron over Flat rock this week. Gary, that would be the straw that breaks the Rams faithful back. You started out great, even defending us. But ever since we beat your SMCC homeboys you’ve picked against us and now your saying if we played now that CC would win… did they win 3 weeks ago? No so that’s ridiculous to say. Don’t pick Huron Gary, you’ve been warned!

  26. Their coach is highly overrated. The fan base is unbearable. The fans have an excuse for every loss. They don't play anybody until week 5, they finally play a decent team and lose. Tons of fans show up expecting ghost of the past. You thought I was talking about Airport, no I'm talking about UofM. #GO GREEN, GO WHITE!!!!!!

  27. Over here in Milan, We have a really good coach! The kids are the ones that make the mistakes not the coaches! We lost to both Riverview and Huron this year but they'll both tell you they were in a dogfight until the end! Oh we had injuries but we never used that as an excuse it was next man up!! They all worked together to make it all happen! Our JV program is to just get the boys some experience and our coaches mold them into better Varsity players! Furtney, Beck, Auschebacer, Hines, Lange, Knight and all the rest came thru our system! But no excuses! and no trash talk or predictions We always show up to play!! I think every team does also!! Good job from all the Huron League coaches!

  28. Gary is NOT "only" promoting SMCC otherwise more of my posts might get through their overly sensative filtering system. Gary is in his first year just like some of the coaches, so give him some slack. Huron, Airport, Jefferson coaches are all in their first year. Some of you would complain if Lombardi were your high school coach. I'm guilty too, but coaches, Gary, refs are all human. Try looking at the big picture and if your son playing this sport helps him take a step toward manhood. If so, then be happy for the fleeting time you have with your son. I miss watching my son play.

  29. Will whiteford and summerfield be in the blog next year? They would both be teams that would be fun to see what you guys would have to say on them

  30. I’d have to say Milan, despite their issues have been playing good!!!! All of them kids have heart and passion for what they are doing!!!!

And based on the last 3 week, yes SMCC is playing good haha!!!

  31. @12:11
If you only knew what a great group of young men these Airport players are maybe you would think twice before such a moronic post. Do you honestly feel better about yourself after your comment? These Airport boys have more heart in their little finger than you or any other of the countless folks that comment about them. They are a close knit group of young men and they love the game of high school football. Winning or losing doesn’t define them……but your sarcastic comment certainly defines you now doesn’t it? Hold your heads high Airport!! There is so much more I could say but it doesn’t really matter. I might as well brace myself for the smattering of “Airport football is Terrible” comments that will be on here all week…….

  32. Great game coming up Friday between FR and Huron. Teams match up really well and should be an outstanding game. Can't wait. Go Chiefs !!!!
