  1. 8:36 PM Post – "Falcons best team in Monroe. Come on, really? They are doing well lately but not the best team in Monroe. Who starts these things, maybe looking for recruits, since playing in D7 for the first time in school history.

Best team in Monroe with kids from everybody else's school district maybe"

Well, obviously, because they are the only football team in Monroe without a district.

  2. Read closely 1217. It says regular season. 2010 included a playoff game where AP gave up 57 points to Thurston. So apples to oranges my friend. The fact remains if tecumseh scores 36 points that will eclipse the most points ever given up by AP in school history.

  3. @250 Airport gave up 337 points in 2010 and that was a team that made the playoffs.. So let's not just go throwing numbers out there…not that it really matters… Just have OCD about these things

  4. These rankings aren't necessarily based on head to head match ups. Mostly based on what they do week to week. SMCC is hot as of lately-no denying that.

  5. Falcons best team in Monroe. Come on, really? They are doing well lately but not the best team in Monroe. Who starts these things, maybe looking for recruits, since playing in D7 for the first time in school history.

Best team in Monroe with kids from everybody else's school district maybe.

  6. 10:43 good point.. you would at least think every 3 or 5 hell maybe 10 years Monroe would make a run at a state title.. Monroe Alum..

  7. I'll tel you why Monroe doesn't win. It's political. They have the players to put together good teams. Look at it this way-how many players have either quit or just didn't come out and play this year? How are you suppose to run the spread offense in that league with the players you put on the field?

  8. As a Monroe high Alum and explayer I’m so disappointed in Monroe football. Year after year we are mediocre. I just don’t understand. Why can’t Monroe compete at the varsity level? Is it coaching? is it the kids? You would think that Monroe would make a run like Ida or Bedford. Why does Smcc make runs all the time no matter what Division they are in? And don’t give me well D1 is harder.. hell we don’t ever make a run in D1 hell we would get beat in D2.. you would just think one year Monroe would produce a team that would make the playoffs and do some damage.. Monroe High Football is embarrassing I can’t believe they continue to put such mediocre teams on the field..just a pissed of Alum.

  9. This is my 1st time ever posting to a blog but I have read these all year long and I find some almost comical. I have coached, and officiated over the years and sitting in the stand watching my son play I am amazed at how many parents and fans know very little about a lot of the rules and game of High School Football.
High School football like most other spots is all about match ups and figuring out which ones to exploit during the game. If you can find more than one on offense and cover your weaknesses on defense with scheme and discipline you have a chance to win. Watching every team in the Huron league play this year I have nothing but respect for each team that I saw play. They all played hard to the end. Did I see emotion get the most of a few high school football players? Yes. Did I see parents get caught up in a game and say things they may normally not? Yes. You see it every year. Respect is earned through effort. I saw that all year and was privileged to watch a number of talented football players all across the league. Gary and Chris, Thank You for your efforts. The videos, power rankings and posts make the build up to Friday Noght Football fun and exciting. Thank You for focusing on the game and recognizing lots of different young men who work very hard to achieve goals through this great game.
Good Luck to all in week 9.

  10. I’m pretty sure Monroe got 3 transfers from Smcc a few years back and all 3 started for Monroe.. So that must mean something getting 3 kids coming from Smcc D7 starting for a D1 school .. doesn’t it?

  11. It’s Monroe that won’t schedule a Huron league game. SMCC would have much rather played Monroe over Crockett, Lansing CC, PW. Bedford scheduled SMCC in 2005 and 2006. Chris pointed out the accuracy of Cal Preps in an earlier post. Cal Preps has 5 Huron league teams beating Monroe right now. I’m watching the Lions and had time to look up Monroe vs all 8 Huron league teams. Monroe is all hype. Sorry to the one humble Monroe alum. He has perspective.

Oh, and I’m over 18 and not so stuffy that I can’t enter into discussions on hypotheticals like Tyson vs Ali. People do it all the time, so lighten up Francis.

  12. Tecumseh scores more than 35 and AP will have given up most points in school history for reg season (291 in 1981 currently the most). 256 given up currently.

  13. How about we just talk about teams that do play each other. If you are over 18 and talking about hypotheticals you really need a reality check.

  14. It would be embarrassing as a Monroe Alum to play a Huron league team and lose.. Monroe be careful for what you wish for.. Monroe is not a good football program if you are talking about taking on teams from the Huron league..which are anywhere from D3, D4,D5 and D7. Come on Monroe I expect more out of our team..

  15. I would love to see someone from the Huron league play one of the biggest schools in Michigan.. that being Monroe..Monroe would lose to 3 or 4 teams in the Huron league..

  16. I remember when I was the mega red and Allen Park was winning it every year and beating Monroe every year.. when it came to playoff time it was Allen Park the winner of the mega red against basically a team in the playoffs from the Huron league..I think I maybe wrong. It maybe Gary or Chris can comment more on this Allen park beat a Riverview team by 2 points and the following year I think by 1..

  17. Monroe has a week 1 opening! Any takers??? All you HL fans need to go ask your coach or AD to schedule this easy win. Haha

  18. That would be a tough task, BUT!

A 2-6 Jefferson team beat a 6-2 Bedford team who beat Monroe by 21, in 2011.

Remember people, it's not necessarily who would beat who. Monroe is ranked against their competition. They have zero wins vs teams with winning records. The teams they have beaten are 6-27. Thus they are at 8.

  19. Jefferson would give Monroe a game let alone the top teams. Monroe can't beat anyone with a pulse no matter how many students attend the school.

  20. Monroe would run table in HL to much speed HL is overrated by the HL coaches and fans put the toot toot away and quit comparing

  21. At 9:18-Monroe would not beat Milan and Flat Rock for sure. Have you seen them play? 2 of your wins have come against 2 of the worst football programs in the state that every Huron League team would beat.

    The Troll

  22. Monroe never beats a team they shouldn’t and loses to teams they should beat.. I have seen this for 40 years now.. Monroe is average and will always be average.. Monroe will never be able to compete with the big boys. Monroe Alum..

  23. To answer your other question. SMCC beat PW week 1. Defending D7 state champs who are currently rankled 3rd. PW is 8-1 and have given up 18 points since the CC game.

  24. I'm not sure power rankings are a ranking of who would beat who. It's not fair to the smaller schools that way. It's more how you have faired vs equal competition and how you are playing as of late.

Monroe's wins came agianst 4 teams with a total of 6 wins. 4 of them came from the Indiana team.

At some point you have to prove you are a quality team and earn the ranking.

I'd say all the teams above Monroe(and even some below) have done that. All have quality wins vs teams with winning records.

  25. Monroe at 8th? We are not a little biased towards the Huron league…….Monroe would not go 4-4 against a Huron League schedule. SEC is a more talented league. Monroe would beat cc,Milan, Ida, and flat rock. I would have them 4. Flat rock should be 5, based on beating cc and riverview. Ida should be ahead of smcc too–has cc beat anyone the caliber of Hudson?

  26. Carlson lost a close one to Wyandotte, who would soundly beat the rest on this list.
Riverview’s only ego is Choo Choo. Hard work and selfless play.
Bedford lost to a good Ypsi Lincoln team.
Milan finds a way to win.
SMCC has a much better D than earlier this year.
Flat Rock wins against the weaker part of the schedule, but will miss their MLB/kicker in the playoffs.
Ida needs maturity to win a game they should, after the win against Hudson.
Monroe is more overrated by this blog than UofM is.
Airport is Dr Jekyll or Mr Hyde? Which team will skow up?
Grosse Ile beat Flat Rock how?
Huron would have fallen apart much earlier if they started the season with the harder half of the schedule.
Jefferson did not complete in their biggest rivalry game.
Dundee will end the season with a win.
Erie Mason should play for next season, but can’t bring 8th graders up.

  27. Even during the Chelsea game, Milan was still missing a couple key players! So we shall see how Friday goes for sure!! I’m sure Hoskins will do his best to have them ready!

  28. 1. Carlson 2. Bedford 3. Riverview 4. Flat Rock 5. SMCC 6. Milan 7. Monroe 8. Ida 9. Huron 10. Grosse Ile 11. Airport 12. Jefferson 13. Dundee 14. Erie Mason

Based off who I think is the best heading into week 9 if they were all to play each other. Like you said Chris, a different brand of football was played in Gibraltar Friday night and that may be a match up in this area talent wise that nobody will see for a long time. Multiple D1 players at OAC and a very very good team at the Dotte. I wouldn't be surprised to see Carlson make it to the finals in D3 and who knows about Wyandotte if they didn't have to run into King.

Bedford is very good as well but they don't seem to be as talented as years past. Capable of beating Wyandotte possibly but still have King to play.

Riverview is very good but I think that Carlson just has too much speed for them if they were to match up against each other.

Flat Rock has their best team in years and will compete in the playoffs until they run into Rouge, Chelsea or DC.

SMCC could make a long run in D7, Hudson seems to be the team to beat in their area but I like SMCC in that game.

Healthy Milan could not beat Chelsea so we will see, rooting for Milan to win a game there.

Monroe is Monroe. One team that I have not seen play or on film at all.

Ida could make a run in D5 if they get by AAGR but that will be a very tough task.

I do not see Huron winning a playoff game unless they drop to D4.
