  1. To 9:02 If they are D1 players than I think they are pretty GREAT. Maybee your the one not really paying attenton.( I didn't appreciate that comment either).

  2. The same could have been said about CB at Airport the same exact stuff went on giving another year or two he would have same record and maybe gone for the extra point? 3-0 teams aren't as good and AP talent a year older

  3. Last 2 years alone Matt Harmon (transferred) and Zach Kohn all state receiver and div 1 athlete at cmu. Had a lineman Keiler (spelling) that went to MSU in 2012 and Franklin. So a few real nice d1 athletes/players have played there. Guessing more than any school in region. And if you read my post I never said, much like your sarcasm GREAT d1 players. Guys that are d1 usually do not just become d1 in their senior year the guys I mentioned had been on the varsity for a while. Just like the Stewart kid he is a d1 player as a soph. And playing like it!

  4. Well said Coach Kipf does a great job. And did a great job as an assistant to Jack. Part of the smcc success in the past is having a people underneath you coaching kids up and this is what Adam did as a Jv coach. Now someone don't come on and say he doesn't have good coaches around him because he does.

  5. I would like to briefly address the SMCC situation, if there really is one. It is always tough being the guy after the guy. Coach Kipf had the unenviable task of taking over after coach Giarmo. He must win or he will be scapegoated a bit. Let's look at a few different things. Has there been a drop off in coaching from the Giarmo days? I would say yes, but this would be the case for 99.9% of the coaches in the state that currently coach football if they had to replace Giarmo. Giarmo was a great coach, so virtually anyone who takes over would likely be a downgrade. This really has nothing to do with Coach Kipf, it has everything to do with how good a coach Giarmo is.

Secondly, the talent has fallen off a bit from when Giarmo was there. Is this anyone's fault on the current staff? No, it most certainly isn't. The classes that were there prior to Giarmo's departure are some of the best the school has had in a long time. Is this an indictment of the athletes that are there right now? No, it's a praise of those athletes from some of Giarmo's best teams.

Now why has SMCC played 6 very good quarters and then played 6 sub par quarters? Who knows? Maybe the competition has been very good. Quite honestly, coming into the season, if you had told me that SMCC would be 1-2 at this point, I would have agreed with you.

The one thing I have to wonder is; are the parents and grand parents supporting the kids and coaching staff. Are they staying positive with the kids or being critical? How about the coaches, are the parents staying positive or are they being critical in front of their athletes. We have to remember, these are impressionable young teenagers who can do great things or not so great things depending on the environment they are surrounded with. If I remember correctly, SMCC finished 4-5 last season, but had a huge win over the Huron League Co-Champs Milan. Was that win because of talent or coaching? Probably both, don't you think? I'm telling you right now, SMCC can win out in the league based on the fact that they beat Pewamo-Westphalia in week 1. They could also drop 4 or 5 more in a row, based on the last 6 quarters they have played.

I know this for sure, if SMCC can get to 5-4 and make the playoffs, nobody will want to play them.

Anyway, just my two cents. For what it is worth.

  6. Who brought up smcc in the convo. I'm sure their coach does a good job. Won the league his first year. Was just talking about the job he has done changing the mindset of the kids here at Carlson. Much like you can like the job the Huron, Airport and Milan coaches have done. And if you say that they beat Woodhaven because he is D1 and made a great play then so be it. But to say it helps having him is like saying if I won the lotto it would help financially. Yeah no kidding. Franklin could possibly be one the best athletes in the state. The point was and you did not address it was they have had d1 athletes before with not the same results.

  7. 8:04 -Oh go back and read my first sentence. Did you see the Woodhaven game? If Franklin was not at QB they would not have gotten that first down to keep chains moving to win that game. I have been paying attention for 11 years

  8. I think we may want to take a break on the Giarmo for President campaign – and this is no knock on him, the kids, the school, or their performance this year. The reality is that they beat a terrible Kennedy program, a reeling Trenton team (haven't scored in 2 weeks and just got beat by a bad Southgate team) and barely beat a Woodhaven team that subsequently got crushed by the perennial league front runner (Wyandotte) who is supposed to be down this year. The Downriver League is notoriously unbalanced with Carlson usually dead in the middle. The real tests are to come! Good luck Marauders!

  9. Monroe is not good. Huron, Riverview, Milan etc. could all compete. Now is Redman was coaching there, then the smaller schools half the size of Monroe would struggle. However, from what I've heard and the few games I've seen them play, the coaching is not great. Monroe won't get in at 5-4 and look for Monroe to lose big to Saline, Bedford, and Fordson. Dexter and the AA schools won't give them any Playoff points. None of the 4 will have over two wins and Dexter will be 0-9.

  10. They have had d1 players in the past. No discipline in the past, coaching will take a team from good to great. He was a d1 athlete also a year ago and they were the normal 5-4 or 4-5 whatever it's been there for the last 10 years. If you don't think he has been the difference then you haven't been paying attention.

  11. Not taking anything away from Giarmo. It does help having a Div 1 college ATHELETE at quarter back. Franklin would be a Major plus to any team.

  12. Not too much talk on here about the juggernaut that Giarmo is building at Carlson or the ever building pile of rubble at SMCC
Chris and Gary are doing a fantastic job
    Keep up the great work

  13. Good stuff. I personally respect everything you guys have done. This blog is an awesome tool for these young kids. And an even better one for us adults. I'm too big of a coward to attach my name. I'll admit it. I guess I'll be known as The Troll. Lol!!

  14. You know Coach Tom, I don't even read half of this stuff anymore. Gary has usually discerned his way through it first. A lot of times I have to do what all the readers do. Between writing the other stuff and now recording videos I really don't have time to do that. It used to be that I read every comment then approved or didn't. Right now I don't even read half of them. As for posting anonymously, I'm not into doing that. I have been straight forward over the years with people and always attach a name. Normally if people want to get personal, I will say, attach your name. It's funny, most times people don't. Now we do the videos and throw our opinions out there with not only a name, but a face as well. I've already had people indirectly yelling at me at a game because their team won and I picked against them. Keeps me scratching my head a bit, but that is probably just human nature. Personally, I would rather people come up and say, "you got that game wrong or were better than you think" My answer would be; yea you're right, I was wrong. One thing I have figured out over the years though is that fans always pick their own team, every time! That is fine, I get it. I just call them, like I see them. If I'm right great, if I'm wrong, that's fine too. I just enjoy football and I am really enjoying the blog this year.

  15. We'll never know if it was or wasn't Chris who posted anonymously. I only said it to do just that-stir the pot. It's all in good fun. This blog is sometimes more entertaining than WWE wrestling when the pot gets stirred. Keep up the good work and I'll keep stirring!!

    The Troll

  16. Wow, this might be the year of the tin foil hat on the blog. We have the Phantom FG, sure to live on in infamy here at FNV, and now someone throws out there that Chris–the guy who has encouraged the Anonymous posters to identify themselves here on the blog–could be posting anonymously to stir the pot. Amazing.

Aeschbacker played a heck of a game and his will to win that game was undeniable, but if he doesn't win P.O.W, then so be it. Rankings? Feel free to rank Milan 9th, I don't care. It's still early in the season. I didn't get offended when Gary and some fellow commenters picked Flat Rock to win. The different opinions are fun but fortunately Milan and Flat Rock got to prove it on the field.

Is Milan better than Monroe? I don't know and they won't play each other to settle the debate. We can talk about things like that but it's just our opinions. Milan will play Riverview, AP, GI, and (I assume a healthy) Huron. I look forward to those game week discussions, but the rankings are just a jumping-off point for our discussions now. Look, Riverview and Dundee are ranked 9th and 10th currently and both could make the playoffs this year. There's a lot of depth in the region this year.

I've enjoyed this blog for some time because I don't know much about the other teams, and thanks to Chris, Gary, and the commenters what I do know I get from here. I hope that all of you can continue to educate me on the teams that you follow to enhance all of our our game watching experiences. (FWIW, I still get nervous whenever Chris picks the Big Reds to win!)

  17. Gary is basically saying that AP will lose to Milan, SMCC, Riverview, and Flat Rock. Plausible but AP did look stout against Huron. That's why they play the games! Good luck Jets!

    – Huron Fan

  18. I think FR and AP continue to miss the point. It has nothing to do with the program struggling over the past few years. Otherwise, why wouldn't Jefferson be a target? It has EVERYTHING to do with the bragging and boasting before proving anything. Let the results tell the story. Don't tell us how great you are going to be in advance!

  19. Huron won but not as many points as I thought they would. Spiess was out. He is a differ nice maker. I still think Airport is going to finish right around my prediction of 4-5. I thought they would be a pretty good team and they are.

  20. Gary Hauf said "Oh I see. I did say Airport got a couple close wins and I think it all comes crashing down this week. Huron is very good. If I'm wrong. I'll say it." No mea culpa yet.

  21. When Flat Rock went 0-18 over two seasons; everyone talked about them. Airport just went 2-16 over two years, so people want to bash them. If a program struggles over the next two seasons, they will be bashed. It has nothing to do with a specific program.

  22. I see WAAAAY more people on here commenting with snide comments about Airport than Airport faithful commenting on our boys. It seems it's everyone's favorite past time. Come on people—I haven't heard a good "JV" remark in a few days!! You're slipping😂😂😂

  23. I'm tired of people trolling about Airport people commenting. What is it that Airport people say that is so damn annoying? We're proud of our boys and where they are right now. Even with the last second loss to Huron.

    -The Troll

  24. Sorry Chris-I should've said they dressed "a lot" of the freshman and JV players. Next time I'll be more precise with my knowledge.

    -The Troll

  25. im trying to figure out what all the fuss is about Huron dressing all three teams… is it intimidating? in Huron defense, I think it shows a brotherhood. They learn by watching. The boys that aren't playing help to pump up the crowd.

  26. For the record the Chiefs have 115 players on the 3 teams. They dressed about 80 for Friday's game. I think the important thing to remember is that all three teams are 3-0.

  27. huron did dress freshmen and jv. maybe not "ALL" of them but they did dress most of them. its the normal routine for schools in ohio, florida, georgia, and texas to do that for games.

  28. Every team in the league has good numbers when you dress your Freshman and JV teams Friday night (Huron). Imagine if Monroe or Bedford dressed the entire program? They would have 120 kids on the sideline.

  29. Most every team has good players banged up or out of the lineup. That's why teams with good numbers have the advantage, like Huron. This will only get more amplified over the next few years.

  30. AP does have a senior lineman that started last year, and has been hurt and not dressed this year. Also, another kid on Defensive line did not play last Friday. These are facts, but doesn't necessarily mean that the outcome would have been different. The same can be said for the Huron back that was out. There is not a team in the county that doesn't deal with injuries, as it is part of the game.

  31. Monroe will lose to both Saline and Beford by 3-4 touchdowns or more. All thre Ann Arbor schools are absolutely terrible. They beat Skyline who lost by 48 to Okemos. Pioneer and Huron are even worse. Fordson will mop the floor with them. They get poor Dexter in the week 8 cross over but Dexter might not even have a team by then in all seriousness. Not sure they will have enough points to make it in at 5-4 being that Dexter will be 0-9 and none of the AA schools will have more then 2 wins.

  32. All of airports lineman have played. A good defensive lineman who played the first game has been out since, and a good one from last year didn't come out for team this year.

  33. Wow the Huron League is deep this year…after 3 weeks I can say Milan, Flat Rock, Riverview, Huron, Airport, & SMCC are all solid teams. This is as deep and even as the league has been. I also think this might be the best the league has been.

  34. I'd recommend changing #8 to "the shirt-handed Jets competed" based on that nugget of information just disclosed. I wonder if the poster is saying that Airport would have rolled if their best lineman played?

  35. Although not relevant, the shirt-handed comment is appropriate to your point if the QB being 4-15 considering the missing player was the best receiver on the team so far this year.

  36. Maybe he put them at #2 because they are 3-0. So is Ida. Who would win that game? I'd bet a few bucks it's the "look at me" Airport people still butt-hurting from "a lack of respect" who posted that. Never ends…

  37. I could name 5 teams in the Huron League that could beat Monroe right now. Milan, Huron, Riverview, Airport, and Flat Rock. Bedford should still be #2. Saline is only one of the best teams in the state. Huron way overrated. But we all understand why you put them at #2.

  38. Love how you put short handed chiefs. The QB was 4-14 on the day. Are you telling me Huron would've throttled Airport if he was playing? I don't think so. Besides, Airport hasn't played a game with one of their best lineman either.
