There are a handful of big games this week. Games that will certainly have a big impact on some of the league races.
SMCC (1-0) @ Milan (0-1): SMCC is coming off of a huge 28-21 victory over 2016 Division 7 State Champion Pewamo-Westphalia while Milan dropped a 27-7 game to a very good Chelsea team. The Falcons have won 3 in a row in the series and have won 7 of the last 10.
SMCC will look to use their running game to control the clock against the Big Reds. The backfield of Josh Blanchette, Nick Marino and John Ritchie should get a bulk of the carries with lineman Briggs Hehl leading the men up front. The Falcon defense is led by sophomore Gus Flint and seniors Mitchell Duvall and Collin Woolford.
Milan will counter on offense with junior QB Dyllan Jones and junior RB Hunter Aeschbacker running the ball behind a solid offensive line that includes senior Mike Furtney. The Big Red defense is led by sophomore corner Tristen Hines along with seniors Nick Baugher and Chris Beck.
This is a tough individual game match up for Milan. The Falcons have hung 114 points on the Big Reds over the last three seasons. Milan needs a win to avoid starting 0-2 for the first time since 1993.
Carlson (1-0) @ Trenton (1-0): Carlson is coming off of a 31-28 come from behind win over a very good Woodhaven squad while Trenton surprised many by beating Allen Park 20-14. The Trojans had lost 10 straight games to the Jaguars. The Marauders won last season’s game 29-28 and lead the all-time series 11-8.
The Marauders will focus on their running game while sprinkling in the pass to keep the Trojan defense off balance. Look for a heavy work load from the backfield of Stepf Sanders, Malik Ford and Brandon Stewart. Offensively Trenton will look to throw the ball with QB Jay Solano leading the offense.
This is another big early season game for both teams who have hopes of a playoff birth and a league title. To win, Trenton must stop the running game of the Marauders. Carlson will need need to be good enough oo defense and let the offense shoulder much of the load.
Flat Rock (1-0) @ Riverview (1-0): Both teams are coming off of solid week 1 victories. The Rams dominated Garden City 35-10 while the Pirates avenged a 2016 loss to Romulus by beating the Eagles by a score of 46-30. Riverview won last year’s game over Flat Rock 33-14 and have won 4 in a row in the series.
Offensively the Rams rely on their senior QB Jacob Dotson and the versatility of senior WR A.J. Harbin. The defense of Flat Rock is led by senior LB Sameer Tayeb and senior safety Sage Daniels.
Riverview will rely on a heavy ground game that will feature that backfield of juniors Dominic Wood and Kyle Naif along with senior Cam Rogers. The Pirate defense is led by senior Jack Demare and Cas Sarnacki.
This is another big early season match up in the Huron League with the winner having a leg up on other teams in the league. Look for a well coached hard hitting physical game from both teams.
Would have been nice to have knowledgeable refs in the Airport/Grosse Isle game tonight. They were comfortable double penalizing GI. Too bad.
I have noticed that this year haha!!! As long as we are not talking bad about the kids, isn't that what we have rivals for??
The moderators are tight this year, lol. You can only say nice things about your rivals.
Thought we would have more people on the blog!! Maybe after a couple more games are played they will be here!!???
