Riverview 2017 Preview and Prediction

Riverview is looking for redemption this season after they finished with a disappointing 2-7 record in 2016, which left them out of the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Coach Derek McLaughlin enters his 3rd season as head coach of the Pirates.

Offensively, Riverview will run the Straight T for the 2nd year. Look for senior Cam Rogers and junior Kyle Naif to get a bulk of the carries in the run happy offense. Look for seniors Jack Demare and Nathan Maher to anchor the offensive line.  Cas Sarnaki will man one of the end positions.

On defense the Pirates will be led by seniors Zach Guthrie and Zach Warlick. Look for seniors Brannon Kincaid and Andrew Ditzhazy to anchor the defensive line while junior Steven Rice and senior Julio Garza will lead the secondary.

Riverview has a solid chance to compete for the Huron League championship. The Bucs must avoid the injury bug and hope that year two of the T results in more points and their defense being out on the field less. The week one opener against a solid Romulus team could determine which way Riverview finishes up this season.

Chris’s Pick: Huron 4-3, Overall 6-3

Gary’s Pick: Huron 4-3, Overall 5-4

  1. Riverview Defense should be tough this year with the Return of the 3 leading tacklers Rodgers(senior) 59 total , Naif(Junior) 57 total and Rice(Junior) 46 total and all 3 were also the leading solo tacklers on the team. The offense should be better as well. I think they can squeeze out 1 more win than predicted..GO BUCS!

  2. The guys at view think they can do even better than these records youve given. League or bust it seems. Great coverage on the team and Friday is a big test.

  3. Fair assessment guys. I'm not sure if you had one of the League losses coming from Milan, but that's a game I think the Bucs can pull out. I think they struggle against the T defensively and it was a close game last season. I also agree that the Romulus game will determine the attitude the Pirates take into a tough HL start with Flat Rock and SMCC. Could go 3-0 or 0-3. Let's go Bucs!
