Grosse Ile 2017 Preview and Predictions

Grosse Ile is coming off of a 2016 season that saw them finish at 8-2 while earning a share of the Huron League title. The Red Devils have qualified for the playoffs four out of the last six seasons and once again are led by longtime coach Jon Bodner.

Grosse Ile will be led by QB Zak Thompson. The 6′ 0″ junior will be joined in the backfield by senior Jack McGrath and junior Luke Harwood. Seniors Collin Bammer and Lewis Will will anchor the offensive line.

On defense, the Red Devils will be led by a pair of sophomore linebackers in John Blanzy and Josh Zemmin. Returning from injury after missing the 2016 season is defensive lineman Logan Brodeur. Look for senior Harrison Cowan to lead the secondary.

This could be a tough year for the Red Devils who suffered heavy graduation losses. However; Grosse Ile always has talent and has an excellent coach in Bodner. While some may be predicting a long season on the island, don’t necessarily expect one.

Chris’s Pick: Huron 3-4 Overall 5-4

Gary’s Pick:  Huron 2-5 Overall 3-6

  1. It's unfortunate the moderator would permit an anonymous "Frigg off" only post– and then waste time defending each other against it. I am a GI parent that enjoys your site- as does everyone I know related to the team. I do believe we are underrated but it is absolutely up to us to prove it this year. Glad it's been primarily silent from GI fans so far because sometimes it's good to be underestimated.

I hope everyone in the Huron League plays to their fullest potential and let the best teams win. Good luck everyone! We're ready for some football!

  2. Hey Anonymous, be sure to visit again when GI finishes with 3 or 5 wins and give these guys their due. You know, not every team is gonna make the playoffs this year.

Otherwise, feel free to break down your reasons for predicting success on the island this year. Besides, isn't it more fun to sit back and wait for your boys to prove everyone wrong? Hope you stick around.

  3. Maybe the GI hater graduated the same year as Gary and got embarrassed across the line of scrimmage and hasn't grown up? Chris and Gary do a great job and have been fair overall being both supportive and critical of every team. They've censored some of my posts, but I'm adult enough not to whine over it. Best wishes to all the kids strapping it on this season!
