FNV Thoughts and Questions

Sorry for the brief absence folks. I needed a vacation.

Give me Carlson to win the Downriver League.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see Airport go 1-8 again. I don’t think it happens, but it wouldn’t surprise me.

I laughed when Gary said his Falcons could start the season 0-5.

Does anyone on here care about Bedford football?

Am I too high on Riverview and too low on Grosse Ile?

Going to be a tough year at Ida I think.

Does everyone in the Huron League run the T now?

Sounds like they’re doing the right things over at Erie Mason.

Things are kind of quiet over at Jefferson.

What’s the word on Monroe?

Still not sure what to think about Huron.

Has anyone seen or heard from # 9’s dad?

I know my alma mater Flat Rock has been working hard, but will it result in wins?

Would people listen to a 10:00 pm live radio show on Friday Nights?

OC, you still on vacation?

  1. Guess I should have also read the header a little more closely lol glad to see the blog expanded to some Monroe schools! Btw just using my email from now on lol y'all will know who I am now lol

    KC

  2. Yes , whole offensive line back , one of them happens to be a D1 lineman…your not going to replace who they lost and you don't have to.
Games are won in the trenches and they have the upper hand for sure..I really like there chances …good luck to all !!!

  3. Where's DA Bears at ? No one representing at all … are the beaches done producing? Where's that bear pride at ? Are you hibernating?

  4. If SMCC can get special teams under control this year unlike last year which absolutely killed them , killed them … they definitely will be a good team …way more speed this year for CC ..got quite a bit back with from last years team !!! Plenty of speed in the backfield !!!

  5. Well, you have to have 7 on the line of scrimmage no matter what offense you run. The base wing T formation uses a QB, 2 running backs, a wing back, a TE and a split end. That's 6 skilled positions, same as any other.

  6. Flat Rock needs an improved run defense if they want to be a title contender (35 to Jefferson, 34 to View, 44 to CC last season).

Milan needs to find a way to reload at QB/HB

Interested to see Giarmo at Carlson. Will he change the offense slightly? Or keep it straight T.

  7. From what I've seen they have used McKay at both RB and Slot WR. For a Wing-T team they sure do have a lot of good players at the skill positions (RB, WR, TE). There is a lot of competition for only a couple spots on the field.

  8. I think an experienced coach like Spiess will find a way to use Brett McKay, whether it is at QB or at a skill position. McKay is a very elusive player. All you have to do is watch his game film against Grosse Ile last season. He gave the Red Devils fits even though GI won the game.

  9. Spiess also has a son who will be a junior that I'm assuming would be a good player.

Wisconsin bound lineman at Milan is a beast obviously.

    Dundee's RB is legit.

    CC will be okay.

Milan & Carlson will win league titles.

  10. Watched Huron's 7 on 7 last week & Spiess looked very good at QB. Understand only a 7 on 7, but seeing as how he was an All League & All District player last year, I think he'll be a huge addition to NBH. Also pretty big kid physically.

  11. It's been a while since we've talked about the great history of football players in this region. Would be cool to see an all time Huron league/region team. Also maybe best individual game/season performances. Thoughts?

  12. I know all about spiess.. my best friends kids played for him at Genoa..no ones putting him down at all , but let him coach a game and let him get a season under his belt…just sayn !!

  13. I agree Gary..I agree …I'm hearing Smcc is looking at all kinds of options for the Oline..some kids may have to play out of position, but it's about the team…they have center and 2 guards coming back from last year and a tight end..they have some kids for the other positions..some kids gotta step up !! If they win the first game , confidence will be high going into Milan the next week..see what happens.

  14. I think if you click the player profile button you will see the top skill players and top lineman for this season.

    Who is overlooking Milan?

My personal favorite rivalry is SMCC vs Jefferson but there are others.

CC surely has a shot at the crown. However, they could also start out 1-4.

  15. It's a 4 team race in the Huron league..Smcc, Milan, Huron and the View.. it's going to come down to line play..

  16. I think you are a touch too high on Riverview, but spot on with GI.

What is there to think about in Huron? The guy has been winning everywhere for the last 20 some years and just took over the biggest school in the league. Adds up to winning for me.

I'm not completely buying into the Flat Rock hype quite yet, but I think they get to 5 wins…maybe 6.

  17. Huron just got a coach that is on the level of Hoskins. Those two teams will control the league now that Jack is gone. Mark it down. If SMCC struggles, the wolves will be calli for a new coach.

  18. Yes Gary it is … I think Huron is going to be better with the wing-t, once they get acclimated to it .. who are your favorites right now Gary ? Does CC have a shot at the Huron league ? In my opinion it's going to be up to the O n D lines just like any other team … they have some kids that can run the ball for sure … time will tell !!!

  19. Who will be the top skill players & lineman in the area this season?

    Milan is being overlooked.

    Wyandotte will be good.

Also biggest rivalry in Huron League is…?

  20. Huron won't run the full house T. They run the wing-T. There are major differences between the 2. Yes, both are running formations for the most part but are not the same. I think the Wing -T is an excellent offense for Huron to run.

  21. Flat Rock will win at least 5. To say they will only win 1-3 is nonsense. If Jefferson sticks to the T, then we'll have 4 true "T" teams in the league with Riverview, CC, & Huron. I don't see Huron competing for the league by being in the T every play with kids who have never done it.

  22. Aa Huron would be an easy win for anyone. They are awful. Not sure how garden city will be although they have GI all they wanted last year to end the year

  23. Radio show is a great idea. Milan's O and D Line will be overpowering. Flat Rock & Huron need to prove themselves.

  24. Honestly flat rock will only have 1 or 2 wins this year. They beat up on a garbage summit academy team, one of airports worse teams in decades, Huron gave the game away by 1 point who didn't have thier starting QB in the whole game, and they beat a horrid hazel park team.Added way to hard non-conference games against garden city and AA Huron they might be able to beat Ann Arbor Huron and might squeeze one game out against Airport or Grosse ile but Level Pebble is one of the most overrated teams in the Huron league. Huron actually has talent and with the coaches they got they should be competing for the title this year. Excited over here in New Boston for the new bleachers and season! Go Chiefs!

  25. Hard to spread it out year after year without replacing speed and skilled talent. Milan and GI have some speedy shoes to fill so time will tell. Jefferson figured out the field isn't wide enough to spread out kids that can't run, block, or catch. They used their toughest kids and with decent speed, #2 and #7 were tough to stop. Until every 4.5 kid that pops up downriver stops transferring to Detroit or the catholic schools, the Huron League better find a way to stop 2 TE's and a T. Lindeman was a treat to watch and I'm glad he stayed in the HL to showcase what real speed is. CC figured this out long ago.

  26. Vacation? What the hell?

    I'll take Woodhaven or Wyandotte.

Airport is back to pre_Redmond years.

I don't see 0-5 happening for CC either.

They are in their own world down near the border.

I like Grosse Ile's track record of late compared to Riverview.

If so, Ida had aa nice run.

Grosse Ile and Milan spread it out.

Good to hear, Mason has spent a while do the wrong things.

Nothing wrong with quiet. Maybe a storm is arising.

Should have a good year, I could see Monroe starting at 5-0 or 4-1.

Huron should be good, that guy has won everywhere.

    I miss him too!

    Rams will finish 3-6.

    Love the radio idea.

    Orange County?

  27. Milan, GI and Huron will not run the Fullhouse T.

Word is Huron may run the Wing T.

I've seen Flat Rock run the T in recent years.

Duffy is a descendent of the T, will he run it at Airport?

Jefferson, CC and Riverview will run it almost exclusively.

Did Giarmo run a clinic for the HL coaches after he left the league?

  28. Flat Rock is one of the only teams in the Huron League who doesn't run the T. They don't need it. They should have one of the best teams they've had in a while. Wouldn't be surprised if they show people up this year.
