Merry Christmas blog fans! Thought I would give a Christmas wish list for each team.
Airport would like a winning season and much success for another native son.
Bedford wishes for another Joseph Wiemer.
Carlson received an early Christmas gift with the hiring of Jack Giarmo.
Dundee would like an elusive league title.
Erie Mason wants a season like 2003 under their pillow.
Flat Rock longs for a season like 1990.
Grosse Ile is hoping for another senior class like that of 2017.
Huron prays for a veteran coach to take them to the next level.
Ida is thankful for the last 4 years.
Jefferson wishes it isn’t another 10 years before they return to the playoffs.
Milan is thankful for a senior class that won 32 games in high school.
Monroe hopes to end a decade-long league title drought.
Riverview hopes for a healthy 2017.
SMCC wishes for the return of an explosive offense.
Summerfield would like another decade of playoff football.
Whiteford hopes that Muskegon Catholic Central jumps up to Division 7 in the very near future.
Gene gennoe for Jefferson
Any movement on things at Jefferson for the head coaching job? How about Summerfield or Ida? Based on Facebook chatter it looks like Rob Beaudrie was just hired as the head coach at Erie Mason.
I'm not sure why Jefferson would ever schedule Bedford. I realize they did win one game 7-6 or something like that but that's a tough matchup.
I used an accelerated scale. My bad
The other issue regarding those matchups has to do with playing quality competition. There are some teams who are willing to schedule a strong non conference, but most will not, especially if they are worried about getting to 6.
If I'm Dundee, I want nothing to do with SMCC. If I'm Jefferson, I want nothing to do with Bedford and so on and so forth. There are teams like SMCC and Milan for example who will schedule strong non conference games, but most don't and for good reason as long as the playoff set up stays the same. How can you blame them?
Gary is right. 80 points for beating a class A team, 64 for a B, 48 for a C and 32 for a Class D team.
You get 48 points for beating a Class C. 64 for beating a Class B. That's 16 extra. Those are them divided by games played. So at the end of the season you get 16 divided by 9. That's not even 2 points. Each win is worth almost 1 full point. There for you get approximately 2 extra points in the scenario described.
So not quite 25%,more like 15, but it's not too far off.
Beating a class C team with 8 wins would give you 160 pts for the win and 64 bonus pts for their victories (8×8) 224 total pts
Beating a Class B team with 4 wins would give you 240 pts for the win and 32 bonus pts for their victories (4×8) 272 total pts
This might not seem like much, but it adds up in the end.
You get 16 extra points. Those points are then divided by games played. You get more playoff points for beating an 8 win class C vice a 4 win Class B.
Sir. You are incorrect.
Incorrect. You get 80 extra points for beating a team a class higher. It's actually not even close when comparing beating a 4 win class B team to a 8 win class C team. It's a 25% difference in that scenario. Check the MHSAA website and it is pretty easy to figure it out how the pt totals work.
This is why GI wasn't even close to Milan in Playoff pts this year when they were both 8-1. Milan's class B win over GI far out-weighed GI's Class C win over SMCC.
Because SMCC usually has a good record. Beating a 7 or 8 win C team is more points than beating a 3 or 4 win B team. Etc.
Great idea. But doesn't make sense for the most part. None of the Huron league teams would want the Class C or Class D points even if they won. Why would Dundee want any part of SMCC. Milan already plays 4 T teams. Playing a 5th for Class C playoff points doesn't make sense. Airport if they won beats a division 8 Whiteford getting 20 playoff points? Same thing with Mason and Flat Rock. If I'm Jefferson, I want no part of Class A Bedford and Jeff Wood.
Nice idea. Just doesn't make sense really.
SMCC – Dundee would be a entertaining game if you like teams that run the football! I posted earlier about a Huron League cross over series. Thinking of like programs, it would be exciting to see these games in 2018/2019;
~~~~~IF THESE HAPPENED IN 2018 ~~~~~~
Jefferson VS. Bedford (Bedford wins a low scoring game>
Monroe vs. Carlson (I wish Carlson had non league games, I would see them winning by +14)
Milan vs. Ida (talk about some gritty kids, I could see Ida in a high scoring game if they stick with the Wing Tee)
Dundee vs. SMCC (SMCC by 14, But Would Mack or Kipp being young coaches leave for a bigger school before 2018 season)
Flat Rock vs. Erie Mason (A lot of talent coming up at Mason, closer game then so-called experts predict)
Airport vs. Whiteford (Styles are the same, a slight nod to the J-E-T-S)
NB Huron vs. ??? (Down River Team= Woodhaven)
I will give you Lumen. But that is a different situation over there. I won't go into any detail about that here however. This might be a great topic to cover once the season starts. Looking forward to it already. Plenty of schools nearby that SMCC could play. Dundee would be great. I have a feeling they are a program on the rise.
Detroit Loyola would be another. Plays a very tough schedule against a variety of very good teams. They have dominated the lower level of the Catholic league for the most part, but Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard and Divine Child are good teams in their league. Over the last few years have played the likes of Orchard lake St. Mary's, Warren de Lasalle, Detroit country Day etc.
They go in at D-7.
How about Jackson Lumen Christi? I know they were once D5 but have since moved down to 6 and still play large schools. just saying
And I believe JLC opened up with Grand Tapids Wat Catholic the last two years.
Without thinking too hard…..Jackson Lumon Christi would be one. Destroyed everyone other than Schoolcraft on their way to another state title. Play in a very good league of Division 3-4 teams with Harper Creek, Pennfield, Coldwater, Marshall etc
Fair enough 12:36( but not completely true), however name another D7-6 private school who plays D3, D4 and D5 teams every week coupled with 2 state powers non league. Don't bother looking, that school doesn't exist outside of Elm ave.
I Heard From A Friend Of A Friend that SMCC and Dundee Are Working On A Week 1 Game In 2018
I wish SMCC would stop scheduling state powers as bookend games.
Isn't CC a state power? I mean they're 2 seasons removed from a state title….
If you are a division 6-7 team as a private school, you're a state power yes lol
Yes I would say they are a state power. One who plays in a very tough league.
4:28 – Go Bears.
Jefferson is hardly huge by comparison to other districts even locally (not to mention enrollment has declined by 300-400 in the last 20 years). That's probably the biggest challenge Jefferson faces in regaining it's prowess. Being able to attract more families to the district and the subsequent enlarged pool of student athletes that will result is important. Right now, the community and school need to work to improve as a place families want to call home. It's a great place with great people… and saying "Beach Kid" isn't insulting… I am a former Beach Kid (notice I didn't say trash or rat). Growing up there is something I am proud of, and it's a good safe, connected place.
And yes, I recognize South Rockwood, Newport, and even other parts of Frenchtown. Jefferson Football made a huge impact on so many of us (and the people we are today) so the "same ole" is important because it's fit the characteristics of the community.
A new D Coordinator? Maybe saying a new defensive scheme would've been a better way to state that. Talk about a bit of an insult. Those coaches are working hard for those kids. But ragging on coaches is a go-to excuse for anonymous "keyboard commandos" anyway.
But let's talk about a real tragedy in the district… how the hell did you guys let the Big Boy on Dixie close?
I would say is a bit of insult there 3:21. Most of your comment is decent, but the "tried and true system that works best for the Beach Kids" Jefferson is a huge school district and over 50% of it does not include a Beach subdivision.
Its a tough call. Same ole, same ole has gotten SMCC a lot of success, but then again teams like GI have spread it out and had some success.
Same ole might be the best bet for the offense, but a new defensive coordinator is an absolute. It must be better to have any success.
I head the same, 11:37. Usually where there is smoke, there is fire. Does that bring consistency/continuity to what they have rebuilt (and are rebuilding) or does it leave them stuck in one place? I think the big return they just had to basic off-tackle hard-nosed Jefferson Football (as opposed to what they tried a few years ago) proved that tradition and a tried and true system works best for the style that fits the Beach Kids. Maybe keeping the coach in-house fits into that idea. An outsider coach would work, but only if that person is smart enough to set up a system that plays to the strengths of what Jefferson's kids are all about (rather than come in with a radical change.)
That being said, it'll probably be the inside guy. Most over there probably consider him the heir apparent anyway. Jefferson doesn't like change – and that probably will work for them and keep them moving back toward league competitiveness. I admire the coaches and families and kids that have stuck with it through the tough years and put their hearts into what they do.
According to the Monroe News (http://monroeeveningnews.mi.newsmemory.com/publink.php?shareid=1302bbb9f) if you didn't read it last week, Huron is done interviewing and was supposed to announce a coach within a few days. I have not heard any names.
Mason had 17 applicants, according to the article several strong applicants with interviews taking place this week. The AD stated she hoped to have it all wrapped up in a week or two. I have heard there are a few applicants from the current staff, including Rob Beaudrie. Also heard Mason interviewed an applicant for a teaching position that also applied for the head coach job who is currently the head coach at Roseville High School.
Jefferson job was just posted on their website last Tuesday but haven't heard anything about who they are looking at.
Summerfield job has not been posted on their website. With the pretty good success they have had I wouldn't be surprised to see an assistant on the staff take over if there is any interest.
Has anyone heard any names for the openings in the area?
Huron?
Jefferson?
Mason?
I have heard Jefferson will be turning it over to another long time assistant but that is hearsay.
Jefferson also wishing for a good coach to replace Pickens. I'm thinking outside the system, since the system has not been that great in recent years. Same ole stuff isn't getting it done these days.
I think Grosse Ile is wishing for another senior class like 2013. Junior year state semifinals, Senior year regional finals. #justsaying GI Dad
But no league championship to show for it…
Happy new year, Keep up the good work in 2017
Heard Milan is opening up with Chelsea.
Yes they are and closing with Ypsi Lincoln.
Flat rock will have their hands full with Garden City in week one. Ann Arbor Huron looks like a win, if they ever get their act together that would be a tough game as well.
I heard FR scheduled Garden City and Ann Arbor Huron this year. That will be a big step up from Summit.
What I wish for:
Have an LCAA-Huron league crossover week each year for week 1 and 9. There could be some great games in a Prep Showcase format
Jefferson vs. Hudson
Milan vs. Brooklyn CC
GI vs. Hillsdale
Ida vs. SMCC
Blissfield vs. Riverview
Onsted vs. Flat Rock
Airport vs. Erie Mason
Huron vs. Dundee
I know Downriver League doesn't have non-conference games but a Carlson vs. Monroe or Bedford would be fun to watch too 😉
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, not a Riverview guy or anything but if they're healthy this season look out.
Merry Christmas!!!!
