Huron League Thoughts, Questions and More

Milan sure does have some athletes on that team.

That looked like vintage Cisco football on Friday.

How do you lose that game?

Adrian appears to be much improved from their week 1 loss at Milan.

Football is always about the team, not the individual.

I attended a lot of football games in Allen Park with my late father-in-law John Moscheck. It wouldn’t have been the same without him.

Bedford has a nice team, but apparently they don’t have the internet in south Monroe County.

The Downriver League needs to make some changes and play some non-league competition.

Ida appears poised for a nice play off run.

Pretty sure Stockbridge hasn’t seen a defense like that all year.

The Demetrius Barnes touchdown on Friday was one of the most athletic I have ever seen.

I haven’t seen a better football player than Nick Humphrey all year.

State still stinks!

Should I venture back to Milan again on Friday?

The blog expansion will most likely mean the elimination of anonymous comments.

I had great conversations with the AD’s from Milan, Jefferson and Dundee on Friday night. You should be thankful for their knowledge and caring of your school, athletic department and student athletes.

  1. Practice footage would be much like when the guys from the B1G Channel go around to each camp. They never show anything specific. Just drills and stuff like that. We will then do a small video cast right from the practice field. Obviously, this stuff has to get approved by coaches and AD's, but who wouldn't want something like that? It's just another way to promote high school football in our area.

  2. I like the idea of player and coach interviews but the practice footage would give away a lot to other teams. If you want to add a trick play or something then the other team would already see it coming.

  3. What happened to our SMCC soccer guy? They quietly lose this past weekend and nothing. Haven't heard a thing. Monroe paper didn't even mention it.

  4. I figured I should let everyone know how to spell my son's name since he has been on the blog a few times haha TRISTEN…..we are all very proud of him and what he has accomplished so far in his 1st year on varsity !!! Definitely proud of the whole Milan Squad this year, they are doing awesome!! Go Big Reds!!

  5. Going in, I thought that the similar styles would favor GI over Adrian. Turns out, I was wrong. It might be that a balanced spread team might be the only kind of team Adrian stacks up against well.

The first Adrian @ Milan game was Tristan Hines' coming out party, as the freshman snagged two picks in his Varsity debut. Milan will need a similar–or better–team performance in pass defense to get the same result this time around. I'm sure they are looking forward to the challenge.

  6. Still puzzled how GI lost to Adrian. Heard all year about GI's "hard hitting defense". What happened? Can anyone break it down on the blog?

    1. First of all, it was a well played game by all the kids.
Milan will have their hands full Friday night.
      As for a GI breakdown,
It seemed like GI wasn't at the top of their game on O, way to many passes or pass attempts.
      Very little outside runs.
All of this Turned into way to many 3 & out.
As for the D, GI tried to switch into a 3 front on passing downs, not sure the LB had enough to pull it off ? And the 3 front didn't create much of a rush.

On a side note, I'd like to thank you Chris for all the entertainment this blog has provided my family & me for the last 4 years. I would love to have been part of the expanded / improved blog next year.
But 4 years go by way to fast.

Best of luck next year and in the future.

  7. Looking forward to the improvement, guys, especially the video!

Then again, anything would beat what the Monroe News inexplicably posted online…unless you greatly enjoyed the clip where Milan rushed twice for about four yards near midfield.

  8. Paul, the plan is to have practice footage, game footage, coach and player interviews. Covering approximately 25 teams or so. Much to hash out.
Keep in mind, Chris and I are just a couple of Yahoo's who love HS football, however we will try to be as professional as possible to bring you the best coverage we can.

    1. Thanks Gary! I love keeping up with the league I grew up in. Also, having video gives me things I can steal and use with my team out here in Colorado. Coaching in Michigan is much better than in Colorado in general, so any advantage I can get I will use.

However, I coached with the guy out here in CO who gave Michigan the "speedline" huddle they've used a couple times this season. I use it with my team and it really messes with teams who flip to the strength. It's a great change of pace. It works best with power football formations, but anyone can use it if they want to catch someone off guard in the playoffs (hint, hint Milan).

  9. My team stinks and I guess Arizona will never be a football school.

That's a fair comment above. It has always been a fine line on the anonymous comments. I love some of the insight people bring, but 2/3 of it is garbage that I must sort through. I think many will be surprised at the content in store for the 2017 season. From articles, video, podcast and more, the new and improved blog will be second to none in the state of Michigan for high school football. Our numbers are through the roof now and could possibly triple with the content we are planning.

  10. Humphrey definitely best player in the league. Extreme workhorse. Both sides of the ball. No other young man in the league leads his team on both offense and defense.

Do not care for the anonymous link being removed. That is more than 50% of the comments and it will ruin the fun on the blog. Most of the comments on here are a result of an accusation or crazy idea from an anonymous blogger.

I probably will not be back. I have probably put over 200 comments on here this year. Its a fun blog, keep it that way. Putting an anonymous comment allows you to voice an opinion that many of our peers would probably not appreciate. So putting a name on it will eliminate those comments. Sort of like voting for Trump or Hillary. Many people would never admit voting for one of them publicly, but in an anonymous voting booth, many of us obviously will vote for one of them.

  11. Watch for two LCAA teams, Hudson and Ida to make long runs in the playoffs. Milan and Ida would be a good game. Ida defense is not that great and milan would move the ball all over the field. Ida would move the ball all over Milan. I see a shootout. Milan would struggle with Hudson as well.

  12. On the anonymous bit… anyone can create any google handle they want. So although it may not read anonymous, unless somebody puts their name to it, it can still be rather anonymous.

    1. That's why I put my name to it. I don't want to be accused of saying something I didn't. I think everyone should at least put a call sign up. That way the conversation you have with who ever is directed to that conversation. Sometimes you ask yourself who in the world am I replying too. Even when your being called a d-bag. Lol

  13. Barnes got great consideration here on the blog. His main worth however is running the ball, which I think Trace does a bit better. Levicki's numbers are through the roof. I think he just scored his 70th career TD on Friday. I will see what numbers I can get on all the players this week.

  14. More on Ida… Their o-line is legit and Levicki is a stud. I knew he was powerful but that kid gets through the hole as fast as anyone. Very impressive. Will be interesting what the MEN does with Region POY. linedeman, Humphrey and Levicki are all deserving.

  15. I like the idea of taking way the Anonymous feature on the blog would certainly change the dynamics of the blog. Being responsible for what your posting would be interesting.

Appreciate the kind words about the Milan, Jefferson and Dundee AD's. I think I can safely speak for all 3 that we work hard to represent our districts and the "spirit" of high school athletics in a positive light.

Chris – you are always welcome in Milan. If you decide to come, let me know. This weekends game between Milan and Adrian could play out very much like the Jefferson game. I see this being a tough tough game. Hope people will come out and support the kids from both communities.

  16. I realize I'm piston anonymously but everyone else does so why shouldn't I? I think getting rid of that would be good for the blog… Just my opinion though, keep up the good work gentlemen.
