  1. Yes, I agree 6:29-it's been awhile since the DEVILS have won the championship. As said above, good luck in the playoffs and again congrats at being the Huron League Champions.

  2. 11:24pm, Being a SMCC 2014/2015 player's mom who has NEVER commented on the blog, your comment is rediculous! When you play against teams the caliber of Jackson Lumen Christi and Lansing Catholic ( both with current NCAA D1 players) and Ithaca you earn respect. So don't try to tarnish our rings with your so called "respect". SMCC plays higher division schools every week , every season. On a side note, number 9 dad , I've enjoyed playing against your son and your post. You are probably the most sportsmanlike blogger. Good luck to your son in the playoffs and the future. It's a fun ride, enjoy it!

  3. I want to send props to the Airport players and staff. They were a very respectful group of kids and coaches frequently saying THANK YOU and APPRECIATE IT to the Milan staff managing the game. They were very positive and gracious.

Airport parents – you have every right to be proud of your young men. Adversity reveals character, well done.

  4. They could make a run in D-6 , not D-7. Division six is awful this year. D-7 they would have to play Hudson or Loyloa. That would be shortlived. d-6 maybe win a district, but then Luman Christi who is better.

  5. If CC wouldve beat Jefferson they probably would be going to Ford Field cause they are D7. Obviously i give them respect cause they beat my team and I will always respect them. but just saying

  6. I think everyone is making fair points. Gary is doing just fine. He obviously has the knowledge and provides great insight. He will figure out pretty quickly if people think he is being biased. Whether he adjusts his approach because of that remains to be seen.

  7. Milan, since you can switch fields so easily at home coming, switch the last game with SMCC. You state you are such a better team, you head out and play little D5 Lansing Catholic Central and SMCC will play your opponent Ann Arbor Huron.

  8. I don't think Gary is cut out for this blog. Too closely tied to his school. SMCC homer!! At least we know where Chris went, but he's fair. Chris is classy, he'll probably post something about how fair Gary is regarding this post. The floor is yours Chris.

    1. I stick up for everyone if it's warranted. Remember, I picked CC to lose this week.

To talk trash regarding CC and the playoffs is absurd. If you can't see my point or disagree. That's fine. We all have our opinions.
      Thank you for reading

    2. That's how you do it Gary. If people don't have freedom to say what they want ( no matter how idiotic ), they will just not visit. It's all in good fun.

    3. 8:38, Chris asked some time ago if anyone was interested in taking over the blog. No one responded. Now Gary is helping out and the blog is expanding. Even when we disagree with the commentary at times, the blog is enjoyable for the entire league. I like reading the regulars that comment. There are 8 schools competing every week. Diagreements are naturally going to happen, and I don't agree with the most recent power rankings. That said, I think Chris AND Gary to an excellent job of being impartial. Do I always agree with them, no way, but they are fair. If they make mistakes or even come off sounding one way or another, they are human. I think they do a great job, frankly speaking, far better than the newspaper.

  9. It's always good to stay above the fray. Idiots begetting idiots might make for laughable blog rants now and again but try to do so with respect, where respect is deserved.

  10. Sorry but we already killed the bunnies last week. Come on over through and we can show you a couple of State Championsip Trophies!!

  11. Gary that was awesome. A guy complaining cc plays in d7 really d6. But yet has gotten beat by them consistently. Good stuff lol

  12. 3:54…. You do know you are talking crap about a program that has 2 State Titles, 4 State Runner-ups, 11 Regional Titles and 42 playoff wins. Compared to Milan's 12 playoff wins, ZERO state titles, ZERO state Runner ups and ZERO regional titles. I'd say that's pretty good.

You can keep looking foolish if you choose but I would focus less on SMCC and more on your own team going forward. Act like you have been there before and you might get there again.

    1. Gary that's pretty messed up. There is a lot of smack talk from both fan bases. If you are going to call out a poster for talking about your school, then do the same for all. Yes you do have some facts, but you can't call someone out for rubbing in some facts, fact is, they won't make the playoffs. Go back and look at some of the posts in the past about Milan from so called SMCC fans. They lay it on pretty thick too. So my opinion is let them talk or don't, stand up for all or none. Just my opinion.

    2. It's a bit harder to talk crap about a school with such credentials is my point. Trust me, I know the CC folks can lay it on thick. I've said things to them in the past as well.

Talking trash about a particular game is one thing but to talk about being in the playoffs to CC people is absurd, given cc's history.

Jefferson can talk all the smack they want this week. They earned it.

    3. I have always said I would play CC every week if it was up to me. I do respect them and I do know they have a great program. Maybe it's me, maybe I read it a little to deep. That said, I'm happy my team is having a great season.

    1. They're not even in the same division…. we already did plenty of rabbit hunting id say 😏 Maybe you guys can beat us next year tho

  13. Let's not forget where teams like Airport and Huron came from. Look back 10-20 years. They were both quite possibly the worst programs in the entire state. Both programs have done a complete 180 and have had some great years. Yes Airport has taken a step back recently but to turn those programs around from what they were was quite an accomplishment.

  14. I'm a Milan fan. All year I've been reading Airport fans question the coaching and sometimes players. I think Airport has talent on that team, they are just running the wrong type of offense to match their talent. They should run more of a spread offense. That QB can fling the ball around, and they have some good receivers. The RB's can run. They should pass to set up the run, not the other way around.

  15. Hey Chris, can you please continue the blog during the playoffs? I don't know any other way to be involved.

    – SMCC

  16. Way to bring it Bears! Watched the game, they played with heart. Mullendore stepped in as QB minutes before game time and got the job done. Humphrey ignored the ankle issue and went 100% beast mode, WOW! Good old fashion Jefferson "hard nose" football. Great win coach Pick.

  17. Gotta say our Airport boys played very hard! Offense moved the ball with some new plays! #9 WOW that kids faster in person than on film! Very proud of the way you Jets played! Keep your heads up! RB

  18. Congrats to Jefferson on beating a good SMCC team especially without your QB. Shows a lot of heart. SMCC is well coached and a good football team. Jefferson must have really played great. Again congrats.

    Milan Fan

  19. Milan wins their 3rd Huron League title in the last 5 years. Congrats boys. 19 of 22 new starters from last years team. Great year no matter what happens going forward. Kids really worked hard and deserve what they got. Happy for you boys.

    Milan Fan

  20. Milan / Airport game filled with penalties. Long night but a nice win for the Big Reds. Airport has some talented players on that squad. No question that their record does not represent the talent that is on their sidelines. Kids with good size and athletic ability. Glad league play is over and the playoffs are about here. Not sure how far any Huron League team will travel in the post season, but it is time for the league schools to start pulling for each other and spot the the BS chat…..

Best of Luck to all the Huron League schools that are headed to the playoffs.

    1. I agree about the Milan refs horrible. Great job JETS you played hard all 4 quarters. Best you played all season. Congrats to Milan

  21. The officials at the Milan/Airport game were horrendous! I think they were the same officials Milan had at the Jefferson game. There must of been 20 penalties called between the two teams. By far the longest High School game I've attended. After they made a call, they took 2minutes to consult with the coach and finally make the call. Literally a penalty every 2 to 3 plays.

    1. I agree about the refs they were horrible. Way to go JETS you played great all 4 quarters best all season. Congrats to Milan

  22. Am I the only one who believes Huron's play calling has been brutal? Both quarterbacks run their own 3 or 4 plays. Very predictable offense.

  23. Very good parity in league this year. This is very exciting. I hope this continues for several years. Incredible how a team that crushes somebody the week before loses the following week to a team that was crushed by the team they crushed. Does that make sense?

Milan beats Jefferson, SMCC beat Milan, Jefferson beats SMCC.

Jefferson beats Flat Rock, Jefferson gets beat by Huron, Huron loses to Flat Rock.

Like others have said, its all about the matchups. Makes for great football when anybody can win every week.

  24. Chris protects the coaches, but calling out the coach that called the play throwing the ball to the kid with the broken hand that is all taped up.

  25. Huron again doesn't start #12. He's been available for last 2 games. Needing a miracle they finally put him in. He almost helps team pull it out driving 50 yards with 1:30 left no time outs. Unfortunately missed extra point that could of forced OT. Not sure why they don't start him. Shouldn't lose starting job due to injury. No knock on #7 great kid and good player just totally different offense with 12 at the helm. Very proud of him. #12 Uncle.

  26. I agree with the flopping. What was that. Is that the chop blocking guys were talking about on here awhile back. Creates a pile up the middle but your other 7 defenders better get to the corners. Not sure its a good idea. But then again, Smcc quit doing it on Jefferson's last drive to run the clock out and we got 70 rushing yards in about 4 plays.

I guess that's the ancient Chinese secret SMCC uses when we all say their defensive line is small.

    1. My son was on varsity at SMCC for 2 years and was a lineman. He said that they NEVER played that style of defense. He also said that a lot of the teams they played against did that to them and he hated it. People in the Huron League have been saying how undersized we are for years, but the funny thing is, until this season, it never really mattered. In the past, SMCC ran over many of the most heralded giants in the league. And, after they did, there was some other goofy excuse. Jefferson whooped us. Flat out. It's just disappointing that we have to resort to bush league tactics instead of learning how to play properly.

  27. Jefferson played hard tonight, Humphrey is a BEAST! All credit to the Bears. And now to my Falcons. I use the name very loosely because they didn't play like Falcons tonight. The defense was completely terrible. I couldn't figure out why the complete CC defensive line was flopping on their bellies through the majority of the game. Were they trying to trip the Jefferson players up? Whatever it was, it didn't work very well. What defensive genius thought up that plan? I'm no coach, but it seems to me that you have a better chance of tackling someone if you're on your feet. And personally, I'd rather have all 11 of my players in an upright position. That way my 11 upright players can compete with the other team's 11 players on an equal level. SMCC should take a mulligan on this season. I know I'll take the heat from the Falcons faithful, but come on, man!

    1. Very true… they dominated three quarters until #12 came in for Huron and made a game of it. He is truly a dynamic player. Rams played tough tonight and with tons of heart. Very proud of their effort/performance tonight. Go Rams!

    2. Huron's O Line struggled for the majority of that game. Missed field goal and extra point were the difference. But Flat Rock out coached and out played the Chiefs.

    3. FR also missed an extra point. Seemed like the field may have become a little slick. Not sure if that made any difference. No shame in Huron's kicker missing the field goal…. it was from 47 yards and was on line, but it seems like he may have mis-hit it slightly and it came up a little short. The extra point was a pressure kick, and the kid is human. Pretty clear to me as a Rams supporter that there will be plenty of big kicks in his future. Anyway, great game tonight. Good luck to Huron in the playoffs… Hoping the Chiefs make a deep run!

    1. And when we had only 5 seniors last year and you won, you still won, correct? That was a really idiotic comment. A win is a win.

    2. Worry about your own offense and address before you point a finger at a team that was better than you. Sorry the wing t couldn't move the ball better luck next year.

      Colvin is home

  28. Laplante with a silly penalty late in the game. Smcc stopped Jefferson late in the game so it would've been 4th and long and laplante gets called for unsportsmanlike… not a good way to end your senior career at home. Thoughts and prayers go out to Jefferson backup qb. Great game bears uou guys earned it tonight

    1. Agreed. Glad to know we are still renting space in your head when we have had a down year and you tied for the league. Congrats on your 1-3 record versus SMCC. YOU MUST REMEMBER
THE FALCONS! We will be back. Congrats to the Bears and Coach Pick.

      SMCC '90

    2. You guys bark a lot. So, I'm just barking back. But hey look at the bright side, you can get started with basketball early. No shame in losing guys, it's ok. Builds character. Later!!

    3. Yeah I guess Smcc did ruin your chance at Solo Huron League Champs Milan But you all should be thankfull that Smcc was down this year or they would have Ran the table in the league for the a third straight year. HL Fan

    4. LoL they weren't down they just got their butts kicked by a few teams that were better than them
"Let us prey" (maybe next year)…

    5. Yeah we'll see how your better teams do In the playoffs when your matched with teams in your own division. LOL!!!- I get it though. It must be tough getting your butts kicked by a smaller, slower division 6 team most of the time.LOL!!!

    6. The score could've been worse if they wanted to make it worse. I see a lot of trash talking even tho there might be one game left between two Huron league teams. We all played each other and talked trash to each other. Now I think everyone should stop bashing each other and support other teams in the playoffs.

  29. Amazing game at smcc. Jefferson wanted it today. Had ball whole 3rd quarter. No Sovey, 2nd string QB broke collar bone before game, Humphrey played with sprained ankle. Lots of heart tonite.

    BEAR PRIDE !!

  30. BEAR DOWN!!! Way to play with pride, focus, and traditional Bear Football determination and grit. That's what I'm talking about!
