Milan @ Jefferson

Milan (3-0) is coming off of a 38-22 victory over Riverview while Jefferson (1-2) defeated Airport 20-7. Milan defeated Jefferson 50-15 last season and leads the all-time series 13-8-1.

Milan fell behind early last week against Riverview, but stormed back with a late 2nd quarter TD and an early 3rd quarter kick return for a TD. Trace Lindeman continues his brilliant four year career on both offense and defense while junior DT/OT Michael Furtney is becoming a future DI lineman.

Jefferson had played two very good teams in Grosse Ile and Ida and it showed when they played Airport last week. The Bears were able to force 6 miscues by the Jets and were able to put up enough points to get the win.

This doesn’t look like a very good match up for the Bears. The Big Reds simply spread the field and exploit your weaknesses. Jefferson will need to force a few turnovers and maintain ball possession if they are going to have a shot at the upset. Prediction: Milan 34 Jefferson 19

  1. I've been able to attend 3 of Milans games. Other teams are definitely running away from big #74 and #9. Both are studs and I don't blame other teams for running weak side all game. I don't understand why the two of them don't get split up?

  2. I remember a guy when I played his name was Scott Agus I believe. He was a good player. We had some battles back in the mid to late 80's.

  3. When Riverview and Jefferson play, we will find out. Regardless of what happens tonight, we will not know if Jefferson's O-line is better than Riverview's.

    Thanks Coach

  4. Mike Flaherty… two-way star. Lineman. Tackle. Beast. Won both Evening News player of the year awards that year (O & D). Amazing wrestler too. Not sure if there is a relation.

  5. I think 6 and 9 have pretty good night. I think the O line will control the line of scrimmage. Milans defense will do a good job shutting down the run game and force the bears to throw. Milan will pull away in the 2nd half.
Good luck to the bears tonight.

    1. Thank you and yes I did. I was a linebacker. Had a few offers myself but ended up going to work instead. Should have listened to my parents. I played at Smyrna High School in Tennessee. It would be considered a D 1 schools here. They rank them backwards. D 7 being the biggest and D 1 the smallest. I think we had around 3000 students. Of coarse we only had 10th thru 12th. 9th graders were in what we use to call JR High.

  6. Boy, we have some Flaherty fans on here. That's great. There were some Flaherty boys who played for the Bears in the 80's and 90's. They were all brothers.
The current Flaherty's are related. Sons and nephews. Great family.

  7. Question for the Jefferson folks. Was there a Flaherty on Jefferson back in their hay day in the 90's? Is the current Flaherty a relative? I thought I remembered a Flaherty on some of those real good Jefferson teams. The guy I'm thinking of was a star.

    1. Mike Flaherty. He was offensive and defensive player of the year for Monroe Evening News. He was a tackle on both sides of the ball-absolute stud!! Not sure if they're related though.

  8. After seeing how Jefferson played last week, I think this game will be close. Jefferson is on a bit of a mission right now. Intensity is high.

Milan had a tough time stopping Riverview's ground game and it is a new offense for Riverview, they will have that same problem against Jefferson.
On the flip side, Jefferson will have that same problem.
Lindemann and the QB are pretty quick.

    Milan 40- Jefferson 32
