Going back 12 years, private schools have won only 36.5% of the state titles. I guess you are right, separate the 2 so the private schools have a better chance.
I watched the game. It was closely contested. It sure how anyone that saw the game could say anyone got their butts kicked all over the field. It was a 1 point game late. Huron had chances to win the game. I predicted GI to win the game by 2 scores and they did. But it was earned and Huron was there to take it but the costly dropped int's doomed them. One in my opinion would have been a lick 6. The other, GI scored. If Huron made those plays, I think the score is swapped. Again, GI got a great win. It was a good game. This is from a CC supporter. I had no dog in this fight.
GI dominated both sides of the line of scrimmage all night. But Huron beat their pass defenders badly to keep the game a one point contest with 10 minutes left in 4th quarter. A blown signal on a punt basically gave GI 7 points. Up until then it was anybody's game. Just keeping it real.
Huron missed 3 EASY interceptions. If they get just one of those. Just one. But they didn't. All 3 and Huron wins by 10. In these closely contested matchups, it's plays like that, that need to be made.
The everlooked aspect about GI is there oline. They're doing a great job opening holes and creases for their running backs. I would say they deserve some credit.
The great thing about GI this year is they have a wide range of talent. Moores is an extremely capable QB as you can see from his stats as QB last year, and his range as both WR and kicker this year. They have quite a few guys who can catch, Reeves, McGrath and a few others, as well as many other talented players who can adapt to alternate positions. Perhaps Bodner saving his starter for future games, maybe this line-up was a better fit. Coach Bodner is a sly and mysterious man, maybe he wants to keep the other teams guessing, who knows? Either way, it worked and #17 is just fine, or is he?? Tune in next week to see the continuing saga on Fantasy Island.
The game was a 1 point deference and could have went either way until that fake punt attempt. That just turned momentum away from huron. Im not taken nothing away from g/i they were a very good and aggressive team that was well coached. But to say the score could have been uglier is just beefing up you ego cause like i said it coulda went either way
You know, I have followed this blog since its inception … And Myself initially posted anonymously but mostly updated scores, but NOT ONCE have I came back onto said blog to try to prove someone wrong with their picks and or comments on what they "feel" will happen in these games.
The ones that do that (and you know who you are) are either young kids or adults that themselves have not grown up, try to remember that this blog only exists because Chris has taken the time out of his rigorous everyday life to do so for us and ultimately himself. If he did not feel it was worth it I'm pretty confident he would shut it down. There are quite a few of us that enjoy coming on here and reading what Chris has to say every week for the upcoming games and either the agreements or rebuttles of the ones that have legitemate reasons for what they believe is going to happen.
So basically what I'm saying is either come on and have something legitimate to say about the games or stay away… Now I know this will fall upon deaf ears for some … But if that is who you are as a person then at least register a name instead of hiding behind the anonymous mask..
THANK YOU, Chris for all you do, I amongst other TRULY appreciate what you do and look forward to seeing what you have to say
@ 7:59, whatever floats your boat guy, they scored 39 without their best receiver or QB. No ignorance here. The point of mentioning the rushing yards was to expose the fact that the only way Huron got any yards on GI were big plays with blown coverage, but Huron is a good team, and will finish in the top tier of the league this year. Good luck to the Chiefs, and sorry if my comment offended you.
Break down your 39. 1-short field TD after an ill advised fake punt. 2-fortuitous long TD pass that should have been intercepted by TWO Huron players but instead deflected over their heads to s waiting receiver. 3- pick 6 at end of game. 4- 40yd TD run. So out of 39 points, approximately 21 were "gifts" and 7 was a big play that you seem to lament and discount. Again, great well deserved victory but the "score being uglier" is ridiculous.
I have a son that plays in the League. I for one appreciate the band and the hard work those kids put in. They don't get much glory, but they add so much to Friday Night Lights!!
Always a Bear fan! If we never win a game beating Airport is the best. No one has faith in Jefferson then to watch that game.Airport looked awful.Might be a yr for Jefferson to be in it.Played well & still have some strong players hurt.Congratulation's to the coaches at Jefferson on a big win over our #1 rivalry. The refs gave Airport the victory in baseball this summer & to come back & win on the football field was AWESOME!GOBEARS!
A well coached and very disciplined team should never fumble the ball 7 times in a game. You don't see SMCC fumbling the ball 7 times a game. Why? Because they're disciplined and well coached. Coaching change must be made. Just not a good fit.
No… He said CC may score 40, but FR would play them tougher than expected. Clearly I am a fan of FR, however my hats off to CC. Dominated the line of scrimmage, especially in the second half. They are well coached, and look to be for real. No ribbons are given out for being close, but at half this game was much closer than the score would appear. 22-8 CC, when FR TD was called back on an illegal forward pass. CC then marched down the field, but FR intercepted in the end zone before the half. FR nearly took the second half kick back, but didn't, and couldn't capitalize. Too many missed opportunities, penalties, breakdowns on defense resulting in big plays. So, to answer your question, #9 dad wasn't that far off. If it makes you happy, the better team won, and dominated the second half. FR needs to build from this and move on to another tough game next week. Good luck to your program the rest of the way.
SMCC got picked off in the end zone from the 4 yard line and took a knee on the 5 at the end of the game 3 plays in a row. Let's say the score could have been 60-22. Does that make you feel better?
How about the short kick that should have been recovered by SMCC early in the first qtr. Both teams made some mistakes and need to work some stuff out.Hey they are kids and thats expected. It was a good tough game.
9:13, If you read my comment, I believe I gave credit where it was due. I'm not making any excuses. I said you dominated the line of scrimmage and the better team won. I pointed out where the game could have been closer, just to support the earlier point of #9 dad, but CC won. Case closed. I even congratulated your team the rest of the way. What more do you want? I heard a little about CC's humility. Guess it doesn't apply to you? To answer an earlier question as to why people on this blog hate CC so much, here's your answer.
Flat rock is coming around. Tough first couple games in the league. But if they finish drives on offense and play a little better on D I would look for them to possibly go 3-4 in the league and squeak out a 5-4 record
FR dad, I'm an SMCC dad. In every community there are people that just don't get it. Good game to your team. One of the things I noticed was SMCC and FR kids helping each other up after the play. The game had penalties, but no personal fouls and good sportsmanship all game.
I know many families from CC, and they are wonderful people who do much for the community. Many of the kids on both teams know one another, and could probably teach us all a thing or two about sportsmanship. I certainly didn't mean to make a blanket statement against all of SMCC. For 9:13 to trash FR football, however, is to trash my son and his friends, and that didn't sit well with me knowing what a clean game it was. Anyway, there are plenty of level-headed SMCC fans like yourself who love cheering for their son's, and deserve to feel proud for how they have played thus far, especially in light of being doubted by many. Good luck to your son and his teammates on a successful and injury free remainder of the season!
Jefferson cleared the air on Airport, great win for the Bears. SMCC and Milan did the job….check a W as expected. GI answered the question….yes, they are for real. Looks like a two horse race with Milan hoping to show. No disrespect to the "Big Red Machine", but I can't see Milan getting past SMCC and GI in weeks 6&7. The Huron Bronze will likely be in week 5 Milan v Huron. Barring any major injuries, week 5 now sets up as the league championship….SMCC @ GI. All that said, lets play week 4 and see how the midpoint of the 2016 Huron League shakes out:
SMCC over Huron (but close) GI over FR (Big) Milan over Jefferson (maybe upset) Airport = Riverview??? (AP)
Great win for Milan. Riverview played well and with a lot of heart. They will win some games starting next week in my opinion. Still huge in the line and two good running backs.
Milan is still in learning mode. People tend to forget that they only returned 3 starters from last years team out of 22. That's some youth and kids starting that just played their 3rd varsity game tonight. No excuses. Got pushed around, but made timely stops and Riverview was smart to run away from #74 every play. Milan will continue to improve. Bottom line is that SMCC is legit and them and Milan have won the last 4 league titles two and two. Milan will have 4 weeks to get a lot better if they want to hang with the Falcons. Just being honest and giving credit where credit is due. They are still the champs and until someone beats them, no need to tell how good your team is.
Proud of the heart shown by the Big Reds. Fighting through adversity to get a win. They could have easily laid down after going down 16-0. Some tough kids. Looking forward to watching next week around the league.
Agree with you. I watched most of the O-Line play JV last year and they were small and didn't block well at all. They made a commitment to lift and bulk up during the off season, coupled with the coaching of Zupi, they have grown physically and as a football player. Milan's Fullback and lead blocker Is also a junior I believe, and is a gritty player. They all create enough holes for Trace and Meech to do their thing. Riverview was a big test because of the size differential. I believe Milan will match up better with the remaining schedule. Could be a special year!
I DONT FOLLOW THE HLEAGUE LIKE I USE TO. WHAT'S THE BIG TALK ABOUT SMCC/MILAN FOR NOW?? ARE THEY THE ONLY TWO REAL COMPETITION IN THE HL. IM QUITE SURE MILAN ISNT THINKING AHEAD AND ESPECIALLY BOUT CC WHOM THEY HAVENT BEATEN TWO YEARS IN A ROW. SMCC HAS WON 3 OF LAST 5 AND 7 OF LAST 10 ONLY LOSES WERE 07, 11-13 YEARS AGAINST MILAN. I BELIEVE MILAN DOESNT KNOW HOW TO STOP THE FALCONS. BUT THEY HAVE TO PLAY THE GAME. EARLY PREDICTION 3/2 SMCC
Solid game by GI, Huron played well, but the score could have been uglier. The Chiefs probs had less than 50 yards rushing all night. Big passing plays kept the Chiefs in the game. GI put up 39 with Moores at QB. Trombley racked up 2 sacks and 9 tackles, Vollmerhausen accounted for 5 touchdowns. Good game boys, keep playing with that intensity. There is a lot of season left to play.
Very true that GI played a solid game. They earned the win but let's not be crazy with "the score could have been uglier" talk. The game was 25-24 with 10 minutes left with both teams scoring on their share of big, large-yardage plays. Until Huron attempted and failed on the fake punt inside their own 20 with 10 minutes left, turned it over on downs at GIs 30 with 5 minutes left, and threw the pick 6 with 3 minutes left, it was anyone's ballgame. Arguably, GI could easily have lost the game! As for lack of rushing yards, last time I checked, it doesn't matter if you run it or pass it, it all counts the same. It was a good high school football game and a great win by a well coached and talented GI team. But your assessment of what the score could have been is ignorant.
Haha…the score could have been uglier? Yes it could have. 3 dropped interceptions for Huron (1of which would have been a pick 6). Another misread pass that hit a shoulder pad and bounced to a receiver for a birthday present touchdown. A FAILED (in more ways than 1) fake punt inside their own 15 Yard line. A horrible Huron penalty after a late hit sideline penalty by GI. All in all both played well but the score doesn't show how close this game was. If I am a GI fan, I'm just happy to get out of there by the skin of my teeth and don't want to see Huron again and not running my mouth about what could have been. I'm not making excuses for Huron losing…merely pointing out how dumb you look for your comment .
Airport making excuses again on how they lost the game and not the other team winning the game. Get over yourselves. Your not good nor will you be for a long time. What happened to the best defensive player in the league. Just a FYI , the best defensive player in the league is #47 and he wears a Falcon on his helmet. Huron and The Devils should play on Saturdays for now on so the entire league can watch. Seem to always be good games. Devils looked good but it looks like the defending champs are still the team.
Milan was outweighed by an average of about 30LB. on the O-Line and got pushed around a bit by Riverview. They got a pivotal stop late to take control. Linebackers for Milan were being driven 7 yds. down the field. Should do better against SMCC with their smaller line.
Really? They showed how good they were the 2nd half. The coaches got away from running the ball the first half and it showed. Don't fix what's not broken.
7 turnovers is coaching??? And if Redmond were still the coach, he would have called plays that prevented fumbles, dropped snaps, interceptions. Lol. SMH
Huge win for the Bears. Devasting lose for the Jets. No surprise SMCC over Flat Rock. View played better than expected. Milan stays in the hunt. The Red Devils look for real this year. Offense can put up some points. Go Devils!!
Airport had 5 fumbles and 2 int's (one was a forward pitch from Mossberg out of the wildcat trying to get it to Foor). Mossberg fumbled a punt, Foor had 3 fumbles and Jeska (QB) had one on the snap. Jeska also had an int on along pass picked off. I love how people still yelled at the coaches play calling. 9:00 minutes to go and Airport has the ball and everyone wanted them to pass. Their moving the ball fair and Foor fumbles again, i'm sure "fumble foor for #4" isnt in their play book. 2 weeks in a row Airport gave the game away. Hats off to Jefferson for playing mistake (almost) free game. Good run game, good physical team, nice win.
I'll let you know that as long as I've lived in Carleton, Airport has always had a successful JV team. Varsity, that's another story….Let's just say they have the personnel.
Seems like everyone is bringing their A game against st Milan. Hats off to RV, they had a great game plan and for us and for the first half it was tough, 2nd half, totally different team. Way to fight thru some adversity.
Going back 12 years, private schools have won only 36.5% of the state titles. I guess you are right, separate the 2 so the private schools have a better chance.

10:38… Could not agree more with you. One of the things that makes Friday nights special!
I heard that New Boston has been prepping for Smcc since two adays 2015. Should be a doozie
Good win GI

I was wrong. I really did think Huron would win that one.

A Redmond coached team would have never put the ball on the ground 7 times.
If Smcc doesn't kneel with 3min left they would of put 50 on the board..
Have another cookie!!
I'll have one!
You can't knee with 3 mins left won't run the clock out..

Good night blog fans. I am bushed! Great night of football.
Excuse 7 turnovers is not. Nobody at any level wins with seven turnovers. Bitterness is a path to the dark side. Yoda

SMCC quiet. I find that respectable. They are still searching to find out what they really have. They have not played the heart of their schedule yet.
Time will tell. Modesty is great, unlike some teams on here, who have put their foot in their mouth.
Never really wanted to go to breakfast club till this week should be fun at farmers in the morning!!
Milan was outweighed by an average of about 30LB. on the O-Line and got pushed around a bit by Riverview. They got a pivotal stop late to take control. Linebackers for Milan were being driven 7 yds. down the field. Should do better against SMCC with their smaller line.
SMCC's smaller line pushed around riverview on both sides of the ball the entire game. I would not expect Milan to do better against CC.
CC didn't really push them around on D. Hey just cut the lineman every play lol
Lol, I figured that as well . Bring in the clowns!
Maybe Milan isn't that good?
Really? They showed how good they were the 2nd half. The coaches got away from running the ball the first half and it showed. Don't fix what's not broken.
It really ought to be a fun Huron League Thoughts and Questions on Sunday. Could make for a solid podcast too!
7 turnovers is coaching??? And if Redmond were still the coach, he would have called plays that prevented fumbles, dropped snaps, interceptions. Lol. SMH
Airport was always a bottom feeder in the league. The Redman years were an anomaly. The market has self adjusted back in Carleton.
AP rode the horse and once again got out coached, that is what happens when you don't spread the ball around
Cant believe the fake punt by huron given g/i that feild advantage. In my opinion that was tge ball game
Let me give GI a shout out for their win. I know it wasn't easy either. GoOD job .
Thanks #9 Dad so proud to have your approval

Milan better tighten up that T defense, or the SMCC game is going to get ugly.
Where's all the superstars for Airport like I've been hearing about?
You seem bitter
Cant beat yourself, especially going into Monroe county. Rams again playing tough but just couldn't capitalize on their opportunity's.
A few missed PAT kicks as well. A few bad kicks and some good penetration by the Pirates.
Smcc played 6 sophomores tonight!!
Want a cookie!!
SMCC parents do actually make post game cookies. Tonight was chocolate chip and mint chocolate chip.
Seems like everyone is bringing their A game against st Milan. Hats off to RV, they had a great game plan and for us and for the first half it was tough, 2nd half, totally different team. Way to fight thru some adversity.
Seems more like Milan is starting out slow
How did Airport have 7 turnovers? Please explain. Fumbles, interceptions???
Vollmerhausen, you rock! Great interception to seal that game. Great game guys. – JM
At least Airport has a good JV football program.
Keep passing the ball Airport. Might not even win another game…….
All crickets toward smcc performance????
Jefferson 20- airport 7. Final
Why does it seem like Milan is only getting the 6 pts for TD? Are they missing that many PATs or are they not getting the 2-point conversions?
Why does it seem like Milan is only getting the 6 pts for TD? Are they missing that many PATs or are they not getting the 2-point conversions?
2 pts failed.
Milan ices it with a Chris Weston interception and it's kneel down time
AP couldn't have lost. They had a great JV team last year!
Good one !!
Strong performance by Milan
Lindeman scoots in from 41 yards out to make it 38-22 Milan with 2:01 to go.
Freshman Tristan Hines with the interception. Milan ball with less than five minutes to go.

SMCC must have worn the secret robotic rocket cleats I donated to the football program.
Milan jumps ahead again. Someone is going to have to find some defense in the second half to win this one.
38-8 Smcc
Let's Go Big Reds!
38-6 Smcc
CC 38- 8 end of the 3rd
Riverview answers right back with a very nice drive. Lots of RBs running free in the second level on that drive. 22-19 'view

Good battle over in Huron tonight. Couple big plays on both sides of the ball.
Milan winds up winning. I will say. 34-16
What the hell Airport??!!!
Doesn't appear that anyone is dominating again at AP (like they always do)!
Big Reds strike just before the half … 12-16 halftime Riverview
Lindeman with a 65-yard catch-and-run to bring Milan to within 16-12.
Jefferson 21 airport 7 half
Awesome run by sovey with no time on the clock.
Jefferson 20 Airport 7 at halftime. Jefferson QB on a long td run with no time left. EM
Come on Huron. Keep in the game boys!

Milan draws to 16-6. A couple of pass plays helped loosen things up for a Lindeman TD run.
