The "doubles 900" series in that link above is something like Airport runs. Its a double wing base formation with the fullback deep vice the traditional FB right on the QB's rear end. They also split someone out wide.
Whether you put a wing outside the tackle or the TE makes no difference. That is still a wing. Not many coaches would refer to that as a slot. Especially if you run the winged T or the double wing.
Airport runs a wing T? They use to run the ACE package under Redmond. A double winded look with a single back deep. A winged T only has one wing not 2.
Can't we all agree that GI, Milan, Huron, SMCC and Airport are all pretty darn good? Teams are getting the kinks worked out this early in the season. Great games ahead.
Airports down fall is being predictable, if you keep giving the ball to the same back then EVERYONE, EVEN THE SPECTATORS IN THE STANDS know exactly where the ball is going. Which makes it easy to defend, when you have the talent in the back field that AP has had in the last 4 years, and you move the ball around in the back field AP marches down the field. You make them a 1 dimensional back field it's easy to defend and they go no where.
I don't agree with that. If you have a horse feed him. Did everyone know emmitt Smith was getting the ball? How did he do? Tons of HS teams have a feature back and ride him. It's how well you block it and how talented the back is.
They passed 19 times? Didn't seem like it! Moving the ball at end of 2nd quarter to a score! And at the end of the game! Only during the demand to have to pass! 1st down to FB. Every 1st and ten! 2nd down and 9 FB again! 3rd and 2 probably run! Then punt!!!!
Airport was up most of the game. Tied in the 4th quarter. To throw the ball out of the Wing T 19 times in a game you're winning or tied in sounds crazy to me. And yes when you have a workhouse as a running back and your Wing T offense is based around that position you should ride him to victory. It's that simple!!
I wish they would make cutting olineman illegal just like they have on the offensive side. There is no pride in doing that. But until they can get it, you will continue to see it. I do know that well coached teams won't cut a T-team. But SMCC has been doing it for years.
Cutting is horrible, it the answer when you are over matched. Coaches are blinded by the W to the fact that these are 17 & 18yo kids and an injury today will effect them for 60 or 70 yrs.
Cut blocks, chop blocks should be illegal at every level.
Airport had some really good players and also had alot more penaltys go their way.but in the end hurons defense did a great job giving the offense chances to make things happen. Great game both played by both teams. Huron is the better its that simple
I've had the pleasure of watching #9 run the ball for Milan for 4 years now. I can say, that his accomplishments on the football field, will pale in comparison to the type of young man he is. He is a mentor to younger players, good in the community, polite, and a role model. Thank you #9 Mom and Dad for raising such a great Son.
I believe a lot of kids get up off the ground and toss the ball to the refs. What does this have to do with the kind of kid he is? Do you know him personally? I would say no since you are making assumptions about his character.
Thank you @5:55pm we have raised our kids to be respectful of everyone even when they may dissagree with them. Your words make his dad and I proud of the young man he is becoming. Is he perfect? no he's not but who is? He plays with a lot of emotion and is very competitive and loves the game of football. #9 mom
New Boston came in to Carleton and took care of business definitely the better team in the second half. Police escort was a little much. Good game Chiefs !!!
Airport or Huron couldn't throw the ball all game probably due to the cold weather. LOTS of dropped passes and when Huron started stopping the run game, the game was over. McKay had some big plays too and won the game for Huron coming from an unbiased Huron league fan
At 10:50. SMCC's starting QB, Dominic Flint, was out with a concussion for the View game. He will be back in 100% health for the FR game. That's why SMCC started their sophopmore. Yes, he did fumble a few snaps, but all in all, did a good job for a sophomore in that huge QB spot.
It means these Airpot people are saying Huron won because Airpot screwed up but not because Huron just beat them. They are being disrespectful and making excuses.
The league is as balanced as ever. GI, Milan, SMCC, Airport and Huron ALL have a legitimate shot to win the league. Not sure any team is great but their are 5 good teams with FR and Jefferson improving. No breaks at all.
After one week, it would be nearly impossible to have power rankings (it would be a speculation ranking). We know that those that won league games plus Airport are all are still in contention.
So basically stay away from mentioning players names. I get that. I've been posting anonymously for about 5 or 6 years now and I could only imagine the crap you read and go through. It seemed weird because half of my posts since last night were not approved and I didn't mean any harm. But I did mention players names and a previous Airport coach. (Who I would personally love to have back at Airport). All in all you do a hell of a job and I could only imagine the time you put into the blog. Thanks for all you do!
So….airport didn't help Hurons adjustments? Penalties qb fumbles punt return for a td? I would just say airport shot themselves in the foot way to many times chris not Huron making adjustments ? It was AP helping the cause chris
I can only imagine the "stuff" Chris has to sift through. He does a good job. Remember, this is about the kids and read by the kids. Keep it clean and as positive as possible. This blog is a great thing and I think will only get better in the future.
There are just some things I'm not going to let me posted. If it hints at a player or something like that it is not going to get posted, even if it's massaged to lessen the point. On the other hand, sometimes I accidentally delete post that should've been posted. Unfortunately, I can't get those back.
I thought the adjustments that HUron made last night won the game. Huron also cleaned up their own penalties in the second half. I'm not sure how much the Chiefs threw the ball in the second half, but they basically were able to run at will in the 2nd half. I thought Carlos Beltran for Huron was a difference maker On defense last night. I thought the Krzeminski kid played extremely well. I thought Nick Becker from Huron showed why he's one of the better linebackers in the league. His hit on Mosburg at the goal line sent a pretty big message early on. I know I had said that I thought airport was better right now and that here on would be better later in the season, but I think you're on was the better over all team last night and probably overall.
Airport coaches got schooled by the old man on the other side of the field last night. Adjustments are crucial in all football games. If you can't see that adjustments must be made then you shouldn't be coaching.
Chris-you're becoming too "politically correct" with the blog. i would love to see how many comments you have received that you don't post. In years past you would post them. Are you getting too "involved" with the Huron League coaches?? Let the people talk Chris!!!!
The silence at Airport after the game was kind of deafening. I thought the Monroe news article was kind of funny, stats must have been called in by Airport. Everyone at the game knows why Huron won that game.
Huron made the adjustments at halftime to win the game, nice job, good coaching. The came to play in the second half and wins a good game. Airport, as usual, didnt make any adjustments, nor did they as the second half began to counter Huron and they lost a good game.
Milan was the better team, but flat rock moved the ball all night. The score was not representative of the game. Flat rock will win some games this year. It was 16-8 with 4 min left in the third. Milan d was clueless in misdirection. Smcc will destroy them
I said that with a smile. I always give credit to SMCC. Most give them crap about everything they do. I know SMCC will always be a good team on the field no matter what. I'm not one to make predictions and of course I want Milan to win every game. I love the competition, I like to hear people trash talk I just don't do it myself. My question is why are you so serious? #9 Dad
lol. Smcc might have more then 4 starting sophomores. I'm not positive. I believe some said they were in a rebuild year as well. Chris even picked them at 4-5. Rightfully so. Must say something for the program. Or is it our recruits???
That's why SMCC is a "winning" program. They bring up Sophmore QB's that are truly better than the Junior and Senior QB's. They know talent when they see it.
Riverview has a very young team this season with 4 sophomores starting on varsity including a sophomore QB who fumbled the snap twice friday night. The offensive line is young and most of the players on this team have never played a varsity game before until now. Honestly I wouldn't expect much from Riverview this year. They are in a rebuilding year.
Weirdest thing. A Riverview fan wants to eliminate the T from highschool football. Then they attempt to assemble the same offense against Smcc??? But I think they could only produce 30 yards running it. At least Smccs back up sophomore Qb took it easy on thee ol Bucs. After that sweet D1 Romulas team they played last week.
Flat Rock played much better than years past. They have some good talent coming through the next couple years and can win a couple each year but will fall off drastically again after that. They played physical and did their best to get under #9's skin but he had 2 long TD runs that were impressive. Best run of the night was #8 (IMO)….very physical tough run for a TD. #74 is a beast on both sides of the line. FR #4 played a very solid game but there were a couple bad penalties that brought some plays back.
FR was better than years past but Milan controlled the pace from midway through the 1st to the end.
Sorry for the wrong # (9, 8 and 6 look pretty similar in that font) but I am pretty sure whoever was at the game knew exactly which play I was referring to. There were a couple instances the PA announcer had the wrong guy making plays as well.
Just like I said this game would go down to the wire. Tonight's game reminded me of the game 2 years ago in Carleton. Airport came out tough in the first half and grabbed the lead, then Huron made the adjustments at halftime and took over in the second half. Congrats to Huron on a hard fought win. EM
Milan made Flat Rock look good. For starters Lindeman had the ball 1 time in the 1st quarter and of course he scored. the best RB in the league only had 9 carries but he still ended with 185 yards. Why are Milans coaches taking the ball out of his hands?
Great game at airport. Well played by both teams. Airport offense non existent in 2nd half. Congrats to the chiefs, they did a good job.
Maybe the airport talk will settle a bit now. Names we kept seeing on here provided bulletin board material. Who dropped the 4th down pass. No I in team.
Flat Rock Dad here… Thank you for saying so. For those not there, for much of the first half and third quarter, they might be surprised to hear the game was extremely close except for several long runs by your son, who is an absolute superstar. He was also the difference on defense, I felt, with Flat Rock deep in Milan territory on several occasions only to have #9 fly out of nowere to make a play for a huge loss, stalling a drive. All in all, I hope this game at least earned Flat Rock some respect… They may not win every week, but they will never quit and will be extremely physical this year. Good luck the rest of the way to your son and Milan, #9 Dad.
Impressed? Wow #9 dad how many times did #9 run the ball? Looks to me like your coach has no confidence and no trust in his RB. I'm surprised #9 stayed at Milan this year, that kid has great potential but his coach continues to make sure he keeps him from showing how good he truly is. The question is what did #9 do to that coach to have him do this to him? Sounds personal to me.
It takes a team to win. Trace is there to do what is asked of him and to do whatever is takes for his TEAM to win. He does not care how many times he gets the ball. He has a lot of respect for his coaches and I think that respect is mutual. This is his 4th and final year with Milan and leaving Milan was never been an option. – #9 mom
Let's start with this, no one has done anything to anyone. We at Milan have 2 GREAT kids in the back field and I love them both. We also have, in my opinion the best coaching staff in the league. Since I have coached football I can tell you as a coach you make the best game plan you can and execute that game plan. As a player you do what is ask of you. No one person or player can win a game single handed. I for one do not appreciate someone trying to stir the pot. We have a great amount of respect for all the coaches at Milan. He has been on Varsity for 4 years. How many players in the league has done that? He has rushed for over 1,000 yards every year, anyone else done that? And the guy who brought him up, his coach, so that tells me his coach has all the confidence in the world in him. 9 carries for 185 yards, so what. Milan won, played a good team, a team that has improved. So for anyone else who wants to talk, please let me know, and I will be happy to discuss our coach, our team. Good luck to FR with the rest of your season. You guys played a good game Friday night. Your defense played with more determination and your offense was affective. Hang in there, I'm betting you win 3 maybe 4 league games. Good luck! #9 Dad
Went to the SMCC/Riverview game tonight. SMCC looked pretty good. O-line needs work, but all in all a good game. I think we all gave Riverview WAY too much credit. I, for one, was not impressed. They've got a lot to learn about the Wing-T before it becomes second nature.
9:27 that is just a dumb comment on so many levels. Two good football teams in a close games. So if Airport is only gonna win 1 or 2 games I guess Huron must not be that good either? I think Huron is a playoff team and Airport will win 4 or 5. EM
The "doubles 900" series in that link above is something like Airport runs. Its a double wing base formation with the fullback deep vice the traditional FB right on the QB's rear end. They also split someone out wide.

Airport runs a wing T? They use to run the ACE package under Redmond. A double winded look with a single back deep. A winged T only has one wing not 2.
Wonder why they call it the Jet Wing T camp then??
It's called wing-slot. A wing is outside the tightend and a slot is outside the tackle.
Can't we all agree that GI, Milan, Huron, SMCC and Airport are all pretty darn good? Teams are getting the kinks worked out this early in the season. Great games ahead.
I agree and will add that it is likely four of them make the playoffs.
Lets not get ahead of ourselves now it is only week 2… We still have a lot to find out about The League.
Chris what teams do you think are the hottest right now?
Back in 1986 SMCC had a police escort out of Rouge. Not sure why.
Huron did have police cars escort them. I saw it. I was there
Airports down fall is being predictable, if you keep giving the ball to the same back then EVERYONE, EVEN THE SPECTATORS IN THE STANDS know exactly where the ball is going. I agree with that. But please explain why they passed 19 times that game?
I don't agree with that. If you have a horse feed him. Did everyone know emmitt Smith was getting the ball? How did he do? Tons of HS teams have a feature back and ride him. It's how well you block it and how talented the back is.

Cut blocks, chop blocks should be illegal at every level.
Low man wins; get lower.
I love that SMCC cuts the o line when they play any power running team. Can't blame em lol
Romulus is really bad
Airport had some really good players and also had alot more penaltys go their way.but in the end hurons defense did a great job giving the offense chances to make things happen. Great game both played by both teams. Huron is the better its that simple

Did you see him flip the ball at the ref Friday night?
You are delusional and have no idea what you are talking about.
I believe a lot of kids get up off the ground and toss the ball to the refs. What does this have to do with the kind of kid he is? Do you know him personally? I would say no since you are making assumptions about his character.

Police escort? Please explain. Who what why
Huron had their bus escorted by the police with the sirens blaring, just a way to make a flashy entrance/exit
5:45 Seriously? That seems a bit much. EM
New Boston came in to Carleton and took care of business definitely the better team in the second half. Police escort was a little much. Good game Chiefs !!!
Number 71 On SMCC is gonna be a big weapon this year, he will shine
Cold weather??? You're acting like it was 20 degrees out last night.
Cold weather? Was that a joke?
Airport or Huron couldn't throw the ball all game probably due to the cold weather. LOTS of dropped passes and when Huron started stopping the run game, the game was over. McKay had some big plays too and won the game for Huron coming from an unbiased Huron league fan

I don't think SMCC can win league. They are to small and slow. Lol!
You learned that from them dominating RV?
He is joshing.
Airpot lost because Huron beat them. Airpot is not good. Give Huron credit.
Wait? You just said airport is not good? But you give Huron credit? How does that work?
It means these Airpot people are saying Huron won because Airpot screwed up but not because Huron just beat them. They are being disrespectful and making excuses.

With your knowledge of the teams you ever think of doing a weekly power ranking of the teams? Week 2 showed us a lot in the league.

#9 Mom in the mix love it! Not sure I have seen her post before. Welcome to the blog!
I try and stay quiet and let the men do all the talking but when it comes to Trace, Jesse and Ward I will come to their defense. #9 mom
Please forgive some of my typos. I have talk to text on because I'm on my iPad right now.

ZERO difference between the full house T and the straight T. same thing.
Riverview got a lesson in how to run it.
Yo Momma said Wing T
The silence at Airport after the game was kind of deafening. I thought the Monroe news article was kind of funny, stats must have been called in by Airport. Everyone at the game knows why Huron won that game.

Why so serious #9 Dad???
I said that with a smile. I always give credit to SMCC. Most give them crap about everything they do. I know SMCC will always be a good team on the field no matter what. I'm not one to make predictions and of course I want Milan to win every game. I love the competition, I like to hear people trash talk I just don't do it myself.
My question is why are you so serious?
#9 Dad
SMCC also starts 4 sophs on offense including the QB.
Only sophomore starters for smcc on offense are Marino and blanchette. Pretty sure Marino and one other sophomore start on defense too
Briggs Hehl is a starting sophomore guard for CC
lol. Smcc might have more then 4 starting sophomores. I'm not positive. I believe some said they were in a rebuild year as well. Chris even picked them at 4-5. Rightfully so. Must say something for the program. Or is it our recruits???

Is Romulus still that good? Barely sqeeked by Garden City tonight?
Flat Rock played much better than years past. They have some good talent coming through the next couple years and can win a couple each year but will fall off drastically again after that. They played physical and did their best to get under #9's skin but he had 2 long TD runs that were impressive. Best run of the night was #8 (IMO)….very physical tough run for a TD. #74 is a beast on both sides of the line. FR #4 played a very solid game but there were a couple bad penalties that brought some plays back.
FR was better than years past but Milan controlled the pace from midway through the 1st to the end.
#8 did not score, Lindeman had 2 TDs and Barnes had 2.
EM
Told you…Airport will win 1 maybe two this year. That is what was posted. How is that factual? I agree with EM
What's going on at Riverview? I heard FR played well. Anyone?
Milan made Flat Rock look good. For starters Lindeman had the ball 1 time in the 1st quarter and of course he scored. the best RB in the league only had 9 carries but he still ended with 185 yards. Why are Milans coaches taking the ball out of his hands?
#9 had the ball only once in the first quarter because FR held the ball for much of the first quarter.
Huron made solid offensive and defensive adjustments at halftime.
4,yrs straight? Better teams win. Moron comments don't apply to factual events.
Enjoy the fall!
The better team won tonight in Carleton.
Good job Chiefs! Way to come out with the W!
Looks like it's gonna be a long season for View and potentially Flat Rock.
KC
FR will win a few league games. They played very well. I was impressed. I'm almost sure they will be teetering on a winning season.

It doesn't matter, Milan got the win.

Cool beans bro….
Went to the SMCC/Riverview game tonight. SMCC looked pretty good. O-line needs work, but all in all a good game. I think we all gave Riverview WAY too much credit. I, for one, was not impressed. They've got a lot to learn about the Wing-T before it becomes second nature.

Told you…Airport will win 1 maybe two this year.
Wow, that's early for that "told you so". They won't be great I agree ,but there is still several winnable games. Go jets
9:27 that is just a dumb comment on so many levels. Two good football teams in a close games. So if Airport is only gonna win 1 or 2 games I guess Huron must not be that good either? I think Huron is a playoff team and Airport will win 4 or 5. EM
