I agree, if the Huron league was big where you had 7 or 8 teams a piece with 2 divisionS then I could see a game to determine. But I do believe there should be only 1 champion and not co-champions.
Well if Milan doesn't pull it out, at least they won't cry and make excuses about it. It will just be that they lost the game. Not that they had too many turnovers, the QB got hurt, they played on a turf field. It will just be a loss and move on to the next challenge
I think if you're any team in the Huron League besides SMCC who plays Class C, state championships are not where you set the bar. It's winning a league title and seeing where you can go once you get in. That's nothing against SMCC btw, I'm just saying that they are able to compete with the best teams in smaller divisions, where as the rest of our schools struggle to do that consistently. That's just the truth like it or not. I think the best recent example would be New Boston having their best team in history going to the semi finals and getting crushed by Orchard lake St. Mary's by 50. Last year Milan won a district title and gave country day all they wanted losing 21 to 14, but that was a really great Milan team that doesn't come along every year. Gross Ile went to the semi's in 2011 when they had Kish and some other great players, only to get beat by 40 or so by Marine city. Some of the really good Milan teams that Steve Robb had back in the 90's and 2000's would consistently get beat by either country day or Jackson lumen Christi once they got to the regional. GI and Mitroka had a great team his Junior year in 2012 winning a district, only to get crushed by 50 to a loaded Country Day team.
These are just a few examples, but it's the reality of playing against private schools or public schools with really good programs who just have more talent for the most part then our teams in the Huron League. I don't in anyway think that's a knock against our league. It's just the truth. Our two best teams in the league this year, GI and Milan will most likely end up having to deal with Country Day and/or River Rouge in the Districts or Regionals. Both these teams have multiple D-1 players and the winner between the two will probably have a say in who wins the state championship in Division 4.
Just one person's opinion, but this is why the bar is not set at state titles in the Huron League.
Chris….. Would be interested in hearing your opinion on the topic.
I want to give some credit to Milan's young offensive and defensive lines. They were up against a stellar line from GI last night. They played toe to toe with them all night. There were very few tackles for loss against Milan. They are really developing in to a dominant line. These guys will all be back next year, as well as 2 linebackers, and 2 secondary. Future is bright for Milan.
#9 isn't the only weapon Milan has. If you seen any of the previous games you should know IF you key in on Lindeman than that leaves #6 open just like it has the last 3 games!! #6 has had huge holes to run through because the other team was keying in on 9. The 2 teams that beat CC got spanked by Milan so let's see how it plays out.
I'm not saying it will happen again this year but let's not forget about how a 1 win Airport team almost beat Milan last year. Anything can happen. That's why the game is played. But then again Milan could win by 50……
I don't see a lot of comments on turn overs? But yes Milan won all three aspects of the game no doubt. And outside observer just went to watch a good game, I thought it was a mixture of dominance and poor play by GI. I think Milan is the better team but that said I do believe GI could have done better then what they showed last night.

Milan fan here. Although we won the game, I feel for GI kids. Someone mentioned earlier in the week that most of their senior class has been playing together since pee wee football. I know this must have been their biggest game to date. I hope they stay together, learn from this and go on and do great things.
There are a lot of comments on here about the turnovers. The GI players didn't just run and suddenly drop the ball, they were rocked at coughed it up. GI didn't just throw to triple coverage, all interceptions were on single coverage and the Milan defender had good position and made the play. C'mon GI you should be better than that. 1 or 2 turnovers might be an accident, 7 is defensive domination. Enough said!!!
Wish I could like to see the CCvsMilan game next week. Time to get dirty on Navarre Field. CC has been the only team thats been able to contain #9 over the past couple years 21-14 Milan 3 years ago, 56-7 CC 2 years ago, and 44-12 CC last year. That has got to be the least amount of points #9 and the Milan offense has put up the past 3 years. The biggest factor in that equation is the cc offense keeping #9 off the field with 6,8,10, and sometimes 12 minute drives. If CC is moving the ball at will next week it will be an interesting game. May come down to the coaches managing the clock at the end of half/4th. Heck even the coin toss is important. I hope CC can move the ball next week. If they don't they are in for a one sided track practice. But if they do this game may come down to that last drive!
The view coaches are fine men: Regardless of scoreboard you would be happy to have your son play for them — they resemble and build character. By the way "the dads" are pretty accomplished individuals also — I doubt your from Huron
Seriously am from Huron. Point if my post (in order of importance): 1-Rogers looked impressive 2- Coaches aren't the primary fault for everything bad that happens in a game 3- Some Dads (not from Riverview) are behaving like buffoons on this blog. Seems like you misunderstood by original post so I hope this clears it up.
While it seems more appropriate to cast blame on coaches or have "the dads" claim how great "they" are because of a big win, if like to give a shout out to Cam Rodgers from the View. Saw him last night (Huron fan) and was very impressed with how hard he ran. Tough season for the View but the kid showed some good things! Thanks for reading and now you can get back to criticizing coaches and taking credit for your kids big win 😂
I thought GI DLine lived up to there promise honestly they created piles, gave great pressure made Lindeman and Barnes bounce or cut back. Big question was where were there linebackers?? The better team won but I'll give there d line credit, even if we had 350 + rush yards.

I listened to smack talk all week from what I assume are GI parents. Guys like OG insider, etc. showed little class during he week. I just want to say GI's team was much more classy than the parents. Kids were playing hard, but fair. They were helping Milan players up, patting them on their heads, and didn't throw their helmet, and undress like a Milan player I saw( what the hellll was that). Keep working hard GI, you are a good team and definitely belong in the playoffs.
You must be illeterate. Go back and read my comment. If you took insult from my comment than you are an ingoramus. You guys were the ones running bs all week.
The play calling was not there for GI on either side of the ball. GI staff didn't make the proper half time adjustments to win the game. That loss is solely on GI coaching, they didn't put their kids in position to win the game at all. Kids out there playing their hearts out and have nothing to show for it because the coaching was just not there. Yet Bodner is too selfish to admit he lost his team that game and possibly a league title. He's just going to put it all on the kids like always. Good coaches win, great coaches admit when thwy don't put their team in a position to win. We'll see how GI bounces back next week. Good teams Go through adversity, but the BEST teams overcome it. With a little praying and some magic, SMCC beats Milan next week and GI wins out. Then we have a shared league title between 8-1 Grosse Ile and 8-1 Milan. #RedDevils
Did Hoskins out coach Bodner. Easy answer…. Yes……they had no answer for Milan's defensive game plan. Using multiple defensive fronts and blitzes. After the first drive, GI could not run the ball at all and resorted to slinging the ball around which ended in 3 interceptions and their QB taking multiple big hits. Hope the kid is ok as he did t play inThe second half. Game was very similar to last year when GI had no answer for Milan on either side of the ball. Impressed by Hoskins and it shows with the work and preparation they put in. This team had 3 returning starters returning from last year. That's amazing what they've been able to do. He really gets kids to buy in and work hard and it shows.
Thank you! It seems someone always is blaming the backup when twice now, the game went downhill before he went in. It's a team effort, no one play or one player makes or breaks the game. Be a supporter of your home team instead of finger pointing. You wouldn't want people pointing out your player
If I were GI I'd be more concerned about how their coach acted towards the end of the game. I was on the filed toward the locker room sideline when GI was having their end of the game talk in the end zone. I've never seen a coach yell and scream at a group of kids after a game like that in my life. I felt bad for those kids. They played their heart out and lost to a better team tonight. That's just not the way a coach should treat his players after they fought their tails off all game.
Milan vs Grosse Ile was 5-0 vs 5-0. Playing at Saline provided both teams an opportunity to play their best games with no excuses. If Milan's field would have not put the players health and safety at risk, the Milan AD would have played it at home…especially for their homecoming. Grosse Ile lost their composure …coaches and players (yes, I was on the sidelines, and it hurt them. Grosse Ile is talented but it was Milan's night. Good game to watch.
GI fan, had to say Milan players for the most were classy helping people up and patting GI players on the back after a good play. Good luck the rest of the season. GI will bounce back.
Tremendous opportunity (understatement) but not a full ride offer. Ivy League doesn't give athletic scholarships. May be getting other aid (need based, academic, etc) to make it free which is equally impressive. Congrats and good luck! Well-deserved!
GI has some talented kids. I just think Milan's speed on defense surprised them. A lot of passes hung in the air long enough for Milan to close and make the pick. Milan also swarmed on Vollnerhausen before he got a head of steam. Really impressed with Milan's D the last couple weeks. I don't know what they changed on D from earlier this year, but it's working. Nice job Big Reds!!
That is human nature Sid. That is probably why we have the two bonehead candidates running for POTUS. We have more readers than ever, which means more boneheads.
Every year?!? So I guess you were league champs 3 years ago uhu? You got spanked by 2 teams that we blew away so talk all you want but I do believe we are the ones who are undeafeted!
Horrible idea for GI to agree to play at Saline. Milan has a huge advantage on that surface. Watched Jefferson and Flat Rock play, neither could get much of a run game going, every cut runners would fall. I'm sure that would have been the case with Milan. Jefferson finally broke a couple runs up the middle to break game open, but very little around end or any back cuts.
I'm sure Milan deserved to win and was the better team today. But, if all the rest of us played on our own fields, Milan should have too. A power game wins out in the mud and rain. Big advantage to the speed and finesse team on turf.
You obviously didn't watch the game. Milan "bullied" GI all night. Playing on our field would've only had one thing different; dirty uniforms. Good day sir!
SMCC will smack Milan cause when GI switched to the full house pistol it was unstoppable and SMCC runs the T, which is very similar! GI had an off game, happens to the best of them! GI will bounce back, no doubt about it. I'm smelling a rematch in the playoffs at some point and which GI will take care of business!
SMCC should try the quarter horse double down defense, with triple whip underside reflex. Come back weak side half shotgun double barrel might work too. Heck, try anything against these guys!
First off its Milan, and let's be real they took their starters out for like 6 plays. When GI got in the red zone they put the starters back in and GI still scored so… Milan had majority starters in the whole game on both sides of the ball.
That is actually only half true. Because of the number of kids on the team, Kilan couldn't take out everybody, when GI put together their scoring drive… the key starters were indeed out of the game. Good try though. Coach Hoskins and his staff took their foot off the gas pedal the entire second half.
I agree, The HLC is Milan's to lose at this point. SMCC will be ready for Milan…..and it is their homecoming.
Milan fan here. Thanks to GI for accommodating Milan's Homecoming. Our field was in really bad shape yesterday, there would've been many injuries. By the way, I hope your QB has a speedy recovery, good player!
Great job Milan. #1 in the league. It's yours to win. Any Milan fan reading the blog disregard the negative comments. We are the team we thought we was.
Milans big 3 tonight dominated in all aspects of the game!! GI players are great but I'm not sure they expect Milan to be that good. Not sure the GI coaches expected Milan to be that good.
They just played smcc. That's right Jv did go 8-1 last year. If the coaches knew how to make adjustments we would be a contender. I don't want to beat a dead horse but every team makes adjustments but AP. But with the alumni coaches they will never leave so until then AP will be a loosing team. Peace out.
I am a GI parent and want to congratulate Milan on the win. This was not our GI team tonight, not by a long shot. I have to say though, I was shocked by the halftime talk. Whoever was announcing, it was extremely bad form to say those terrible remarks against GI. It was uncalled for and I am surprised it was allowed. Smack talk betwen players is one thing, but have a little class over the loud speaker.
Something about a float that was an Egyptian pyramid and how GI was like the Nile river, in denial about being the best, and a reference like that for each float. It just seemed petty.
What are you talking about? Homecoming was being done at 1/2 time and no one said anything about anyone from the other team. Chris you were there, did you hear anything? Or is this just a GI fan trying to make Milan look bad?
They won more League championships and any other team in the league and the last 10 years they reach the highest milestones in the playoffs than any other team in the Huron league in the last 10 years. And they will be smiling when they play Milan
The one where 55 and 73 cut every single play Lol…. I don't blame them. They had to create a pile can stop inside run. Mylan did not throw a pass until the fourth quarter
No haven't figured out how to defense Zone blocking schemes. The Huron League coaches need to come out the box and start playing a more modern defense vs Milan and smcc. It's simple inside Zone outside Zone power if you guys need new coaches give me a call. And when someone ask who am I I will give you my contact information.
I never said CC run Zone They Run t offense with off tackle power and counter plays and sometimes QB keep. Modern defense is playing some man and bringing pressure with your safeties inside or outside. Bringing pressure with linebackers and defensive line stunts.
Chiefs drive the field but with 4 chances to punch it in from the 5 or less, they can't do it. View fumbles on the one and Huron recovers to take victory formation and the win.
Milan people always talk during league play like they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Yet they become very small in the playoffs. Yes, the league is down. Has been for a few years. Very unbalanced league.
Very much true about the unbalanced League Milan is the big dog but smcc is the team to beat though. I wonder how Milan would fair in the lower division of the SEC White.
955 that's incorrect Grosse Ile Monroe Jefferson Flat Rock and of course st. Mary's has fewer enrollment than Milan. The biggest school Riverview only have about a hundred and fifty more students in Milan. Just stating the facts
If I were the GI coaches I would have never agreed to play on a turf field against the fastest team in the league. Everyone else is playing in mud and water. Why shouldn't Milan?? They know by playing in these conditions it would have slowed them down a lot. GI should've agreed to play it on Saturday or something. And no I'm not a GI dad either. I'm not with either of the schools. Just my opinion though.
Excuses excuses, but nice try though. Milan out played GI on offense and defense (even with their sketchy defense) we were the better team tonight. Give credit where it's due.
Humility is much more attractive than "being right". Don't soil yourself to prove a point. You are better than that. Learning to win is tougher than learning to lose. Be proud but humble.
Sounds like a Milan parent thinks his kids team will lose to SMCC
I just want me and my kid to be able to tell all of our friends that we won something.
For what-you play your schedule and let the chips lay as its played.
I agree, if the Huron league was big where you had 7 or 8 teams a piece with 2 divisionS then I could see a game to determine. But I do believe there should be only 1 champion and not co-champions.
So does the Huron league need a championship game?
Surprised……No BIG TEN,SEC,ACC,or even MAC?

Six turnovers, three interceptions being against their second string quarterback.
We will see you in the playoffs

21-0 zip at the time your QB went out. It was very apparent the QB wasn't the problem.

They turned the ball over six times, three times in their own red zone. Bodner had plenty to scream about.

LOL!
He has others, we know he is not going to Yale that's why I'm not disclosing yet. He will play college football. Where is his choice.
Toledo would be a nice fit for your son.
Maybe. He likes Akron. Been there twice.

Not this year.
CC defense and special teams haven't contained all year. They can't tackle in space.
That is human nature Sid. That is probably why we have the two bonehead candidates running for POTUS. We have more readers than ever, which means more boneheads.
What happened to GI's QB?
What was the deal with the Milan player undressing on the sideline and leaving the field? Weird!
SMCC is going to mess up your wood shed. They do every year. You guys do not match up well against us.
No turf next week.
Rabbit hunting is my favorite hobby. Rabbit taste good.
Good Luck. Work hard this week. See you Friday.
How did they mess it up every year when Mylan has won two of the last four league championships and beat them and 12 and 13?
Every year?!? So I guess you were league champs 3 years ago uhu? You got spanked by 2 teams that we blew away so talk all you want but I do believe we are the ones who are undeafeted!

Crybaby
The field had standing water. Not safe for either team. Sour grapes. Milan stopped GI flat out.
27-0 towards the 4th. You find the silver lining son!
Great WIN Bears!!
This blog has become a joke…rarely come to read anymore….nice job in past Chris…but the boneheads are winning…
Sid
I didn't hear anything.
Good job Milan.
Lol
You're right. It did start working with Mylan took their starters out on defense. You guys march down the field and five plays. Congrats
1-1 Milan and GI is Co-Champs!!!
Good point on the rematch in playoffs…
Good point on the rematch in playoffs…
Milan's field was flooded. Unsafe to play on. Saline offered. GI didn't turn it down. End of story. Get over it.
Thanks to Saline for being such wonderful hosts. Absolutely loved running on that nice field.
Sincerely, THE RABBITS
Hey Chris, you a Milan believer now?
Milan fan here. Thanks to GI for accommodating Milan's Homecoming. Our field was in really bad shape yesterday, there would've been many injuries. By the way, I hope your QB has a speedy recovery, good player!
Heard GI talk trash all week. I'm going to humble and just say, thanks for coming and good night!
Smcc is always the team to beat!! Huron league fan..
Big statement made by Milan tonight, congrats. EM
Smcc is always the team to beat!!
Looks like the Devil gets to go back in hiding for the season. Lol
Congrats on winning the league outright Milan 👍
KC
They haven't won anything yet don't count your chickens before they hatch!
Bear down
Can't believe AP is winless in the league and haven't played SMCC or Milan yet. Yikes!
But the JV was 8-1 last year !?
What was said? Homecoming court was going on
If you would have been paying attention, they were talking about the theme of the parade floats. Next time pay attention before you whine.
No, they were running smack about GI. Which is incredibly immature and petty. My uncle commented on it as well, he isn't even from Grosse Ile
How is SMCC "the team to beat"???? They already lost to Huron and GI.
They won more League championships and any other team in the league and the last 10 years they reach the highest milestones in the playoffs than any other team in the Huron league in the last 10 years. And they will be smiling when they play Milan
D6
What's your point about D6 they dominates the Huron League against D3 D4 teams.
If flat rock knew how to wrap up it wouldn't of been close. Rain definitely played to the bears advantage.
Its hard to wrap up when #7 is putting your face in the mud. Good try, Jefferson would've won rain or shine
Great WIN Bears!!
Did Hoskins outcoach bodner ?
No he didn't out coach him he outcoached himself without having the proper game plan to beat that zone offensive team
Absolutely!!
Milan doesn't run any zone offense lol
100%
Bodner outsmarted himself tonight.
Any final results for Flat Rock and Jefferson?
Has Jefferson yet? We keep on hearing the fireworks…
GI d lineman cut Nilan every single play the whole game. And Milan still ran for 400 yds
No they didn't? What game were you watching ?
Is the cut block even legal in high school football?
And what if they did?
The one where 55 and 73 cut every single play Lol…. I don't blame them. They had to create a pile can stop inside run. Mylan did not throw a pass until the fourth quarter
Grosse Ile is a good tough football team.
Milan Fan
They were not cutting, it is the way to stop an inside run. 73 and 55 still had over ten tackles. They just played low football, as they should.
OG Islander

50-28 SMCC Final

28/14 BEARS!!! 2 min left
Yes the SMCC/Milan game should be very good.
50-28 SMCC FINAL
No haven't figured out how to defense Zone blocking schemes. The Huron League coaches need to come out the box and start playing a more modern defense vs Milan and smcc. It's simple inside Zone outside Zone power if you guys need new coaches give me a call. And when someone ask who am I I will give you my contact information.
CC doesn't run zone at all, moron
I wouldn't stay up waiting for a call…
What "modern" defense did you just invent? The 2-2-2-3-2?
If you need coaches hmu as well, 8675309
I never said CC run Zone They Run t offense with off tackle power and counter plays and sometimes QB keep. Modern defense is playing some man and bringing pressure with your safeties inside or outside. Bringing pressure with linebackers and defensive line stunts.
Don't think that is modern… Guessing you rode the bench for your 4 years. Also, don't backpeddle too hard on your comments
I don't backpedal I play press-man coverage
50-21 Smcc
The league is down this year….no really it is!
14-14 tie in the 4th Bears and Rams….
Chiefs drive the field but with 4 chances to punch it in from the 5 or less, they can't do it.
View fumbles on the one and Huron recovers to take victory formation and the win.
44-21 Smcc!!
14-14 tied at Jefferson- 4th quarter!!!!!
Working at a school in Monroe County, I know that Milan has less students in its high school than half the schools in the Huron league.
You mean small as in winning the district championship last year?
955 that's incorrect Grosse Ile Monroe Jefferson Flat Rock and of course st. Mary's has fewer enrollment than Milan. The biggest school Riverview only have about a hundred and fifty more students in Milan. Just stating the facts

It's starting to get ugly. On the field and In the sky.
Barnes squirts through for 55 yards and a score. It's now Wascally Wabbits 27, Grosse Ile 0.
If Milan is so dominating then maybe just maybe they will finally do something in the playoffs-like win a state championship.
Dude, I hope you were not the one that made the comment about the phone booth. Cause we just took GI to the wood shed.
If Milan is so dominating then maybe just maybe they will finally do something in the playoffs-like win a state championship.
That's what it takes to earn your respect? A State title? Will we start hearing "the league is down" now?
A 45 yds FG attempt on a saturated field on 4 and 3. Come on Kalby….
Jefferson 14 Flat Rock 7 halftime
Bears 14 flat rock 7. Half
Milan is dominating all phases of the game.
Specially throwing
One of the sickest runs I've seen #9 do …. literally threw the defender down, and then took it to the house!
But with playing on terf helps GI with throwing
^^^ What… that was the dumbest thing I've ever ready
Excuses excuses, but nice try though. Milan out played GI on offense and defense (even with their sketchy defense) we were the better team tonight. Give credit where it's due.
22-15 SMCC at the half
Typo…. sorry….. this was 22-14 at the half…
Turnovers. The great equalizer.
Someone had to cause them.
Not always
This game they were.
Keep it up Milan!
Nice job reds .
GI is getting punched in the mouth. Back to back lost fumbles capped off with a truck job by #9 to bust a beauty of a TD run. Milan now up 21-0.
Well? 21 zip Milan.
Humility is much more attractive than "being right". Don't soil yourself to prove a point. You are better than that. Learning to win is tougher than learning to lose. Be proud but humble.
Agreed and well said.
Oh relax fun police.

Chiefs just recover a fumble at their own 41
Grosse Ile had a nice drive to start the game, but it's Milan that draws First Blood, 7 to 0.
Good luck to all
I see I'm late to the party, the move to Saline was already discussed on the other page. Anyway good luck to everybody tonight. EM
Go Big Reds!
Just saw on the news the Milan game is being moved to Saline high school cause of poor field conditions. EM
wimpy Milan won't play on their own field cause they don't want to get wet and muddy so game is at Saline tonight
Lol.
