Flat Rock @ SMCC

Please be sure to check out the podcast. Flat Rock @ SMCC

Flat Rock (1-1) is coming off of a 30-8 loss to Milan while SMCC is fresh off of a 44-6 blowout victory over Riverview. The Falcons won last seasons game 43-12 and lead the all-time series 46-10-1.

Flat Rock showed flashes last week in the first half against Milan. Junior QB Jacob Dotson has been steady for the Rams while Sage Daniels has been solid at RB. Defensively junior LB Sameer Tayeb has led the way along with junior Mason Hamilton.

It appears the giant has awoken in Monroe after a week 1 loss for the Falcons which ended a 3 game program losing streak, the longest since 2002. Collin Woolford and Kevin LaPrad have led the Falcon running game while the defense continues to be led by Justin LaPlante.

While the Rams are getting better, SMCC hasn’t lost to Flat Rock since the fall of 2001. That streak won’t change this season. Prediction: SMCC 30 Flat Rock 13

  1. The SMCC dads better not show up for the league brawl because we all know they are to small and slow. Unless they can fight in a poorly lit alley.

  2. Most fans(especially dads and moms) of their team are optimistic for the week. Even flat rock and Jefferson. That's a good thing. So if somebody posts a prediction of 40-12 one way or 35-20 the other, don't get all worked up. CC blocks and tackles better than anyone mostly. That is to be respected. It wins games.

  3. People hate them bc they have an open district, they have a dark field they have magic pants they recruit undersized players l,because they run an outdated yet successful offense … I went to smcc and loved it and enjoy the Huron league blog and the league in general

  4. Does anybody on here know anything ??? Other than SMCC's kicker having a steel toed shoe, I have no idea what is happening here !!!

  5. 10:42, that is very realistic. Most teams overlook the fundamentals. I believe SMCC's success is based on your statement. Talent or not, watch other teams film, heavily cover their strengths. Put your best guys in those spots. i.e. watch milans lead blocker, running back most always follows him. Huron overloads and QB most always cuts back.

Offense is all repetition. Block, Block, Block
SMCC has a running back that is about 135, but with good blocks, he will be successful.

    That's all folks !!!

  6. How about we play the games and let the field settle the W-L. Its high school football. anything can happen even in games where one team on paper is superior to another. Just play the game. All teams improve to some degree, but it all comes down to blocking and tackling. You can have talent but if you can't do those two things its hard to win often. Coaches who can put their players in position to have success increase this possibility. Some schemes match up better than others which can make a difference in the outcome. Too many variables to predict.

    1. I agree with you. Let the teams play and what ever happens happens. No shame in losing. But I have said the same thing for years, it's all about the match ups. And watching film on SMCC and have played FR, it's a bad match up for SMCC. Not saying SMCC will lose, just saying it won't be as easy as the past. They might still score 40, but it's going to a hard earned 40 points.

    2. Flat Rock Dad here. I have been very consistent in stating that respect is never given, but instead earned. FR has done nothing in the recent past for anyone at CC to respect their program. #9 Dad is probably the most level-headed, knowledgable poster on this blog, and he sees a little something different about FR this year. Not making any predictions, but I do believe you are wrong if you think this will be an easy win for your boys tomorrow. Like Milan, CC is a measuring stick for FR. While FR matched well with Milan in terms of toughness, in the end their speed, and #9 got the better of FR. I have no reason to doubt that FR will come out with the same intensity as last week, and like last week, I'm guessing FR will earn their opponent's respect. Hoping they also earn the victory in a tough, hard fought game.

    3. I have always gave SMCC respect for what they do. Trash talking is not my thing. And to be honest it makes me smile when people do it. It's funny to me. FR just needs to go out and play their game. Make SMCC earn every yard and every point. I believe they will too. I do not think FR wins tonight, that's just being honest. But there is no doubt that if they can compete and win a few downs, they could pull off an upset. Please don't over look FR, not this year.

  7. I picked SMCC to go 4-5 and Chris picked them 5th in the league as well. Nobody would be surprised if SMCC loses to anyone. It's a testiment to the program that people are pointing out the games they will lose as if they are the favorite. This year smcc is not the favorite.

  8. Keep hating on CC. Just as you guys do every year. Then you lose to our sister of the blind that week. Blame it on looking to far ahead to Smcc. Then when they hang 40+ on you the following week. It's the lights. pathetic losers. Nothing changes.
Smcc wins this big. Most of Smcc losses come on the road because they have actually played tough non league opponents. And have seen the light past the first round of playoffs. Just worry about what you guys got going on. I can promise they aren't worrying about what anyone but the Rams got going. This week. Laplante and wolford are foaming at the mouth waiting to put dents in your backfields. No worries. You can wait in line.

  9. Yeah. Our uniform pants are magical. Or blessed by the pope. The players all wear special visors in their helmets so they have an advantage in seeing the ball. What have you guys been smoking? I've heard some dumb comments, but this one takes the cake. How about giving a little credit where credit is due? Last season, SMCC lost two games, both at home. Riverview almost beat them, also at Navarre. Everyone else got stomped whether at home or away. Both teams have to play on the same field, no matter if it is home or away. There is no special reason for winning. Either you're better than the other team, or you're not.

  10. Most of SMCC losses the last 10 years have come on the road. Obviously they are pretty good anyhow, but the dim lighting at home definitely helps them, along with the home uniform pants. Hey, take any advantage you can get, everybody else would.

Milan is very strong. SMCC will be in for some serious football the next few weeks.
Milan, Huron, GI, Airport, will all put some dents in that record. Maybe even Jefferson.

    1. Great! That's what we want. You finally got it. We want to play some SERIOUS HURON LEAGUE FOOTBALL. It's FUN! That's
      why we play.

  11. SMCC is something like 45-7 on the road over the last 12 seasons. What do the lights at home have to do with anything haha?

  12. I think this will be a very close contest. Flat Rock is NOT the Flat Rock of old and SMCC is NOT the SMCC of old. Unfortunately, Navarre IS still the field of old.
With the deception of the T and the 60 watt lights, SMCC will pull this one out.

Another vote for a Hi-Viz football and real lighting.

    SMCC 27- Flat Rock 21

    1. Maybe you would be interested in paying the rent for SMCC to have another home field with better lights, better concessions and better home side seating?
