Wow!
Why didn’t Milan’s Demetrius Barnes start Friday?
Nothing flashy about the Riverview football team that is playing very well right now.
Big rivalry game for my Alma Mater this week.
Huron sure flipped the script on the halftime haters this week.
When you win it’s the kids fault when you lose it’s the coach’s fault.
Grosse lie could be very good next year.
That’s a lot of points given up on Homecoming.
So…..Lindeman or Carrabino?
I think Milan’s Cortez Gray may be playing hurt.
I knew after each team’s first series who would win that big game .
Kipf for Coach of the Year?
Rivalry week is here for the league. College too, although UM fan won’t admit that State is a rival.
All League LB picks? This will be tough.
I expected a bigger crowd at Milan Friday.
Big JV game when Flat Rock travels to Huron Thursday. Please tell me JV doesn’t matter to those kids, coaches and parents.
For all of the critics that said I wasn’t publishing their comments yesterday, I was gone all day from 8:00 am to 11:00 pm. I do have a life other than publishing anonymous butthead’s spineless post.
So much anger in this blog! (Cc still will destroy Jefferson, tbh)
Like I said before we should be supporting our league teams through the playoffs. The league has a rich tradition and many teams have been crowned league champs. Someone posted that earlier in the week. So to ask a team to leave is really a mute issue. If anything the league should be concerned with very large schools competing against very small schools. But why change such a rich tradition of high school football and sports. Not to mention some of the coaching legends that had their roots in this league. Talent cycles at every school. Some schools are down, others not so much and it always changes. Consistency in programs usually survives the test of time. If you constantly change and switch things around it is very difficult to get good at something in any sport. Good luck to all the teams the next two weeks and in the playoffs.
The blog will slow right down. Everyone tired of SMCC. I like the blog, but don't care for SMCC. Not right they are in our league still. I will pray that the right thing happens.
Thanks for all the Jefferson cracks boys. Lets settle that on the wrestling mat.
Jefferson doesn't need to worry about SMCC basketball. Focus on winning four games this season so you can get your participation trophy. That is four games in basketball, you have no chance for football.
Must be kind of hard to pray with all that hatred. Maybe come over to the SMCC open house Nov. 1st and you can take some time to be in the chapel. It is just not healthy to carry all that hate.
I'm sure my fellow Milan fans are still checking in on the blog. I saw a number of comments last week that stated that the big game would benefit both teams, no matter who won or lost. I agreed with those sentiments then and still believe them to be true.
As for support, I plan on showing my support by making the road trip to Carleton on Friday–not by either rehashing last Friday's game any further here and not by trash talking the Jets on this blog. Airport is a proud program and I expect nothing less than their best. That said, Milan is a team that will qualify for the playoffs after finishing the regular season playing two schools having down years (Airport and A2 Huron HS). I'm not sure I can lend much insight into those contests.
The Big Reds will use these two games to get back on track. It won't take much to remind them that they still have a lot going for them and postseason play to look forward to.
I'm still here. Trust me when I say we support our Big Reds. We have, or atleast I don't, have any shame in the lose we took Friday. In my opinion we will bounce back. There are a lot of things that we do as parents to support our children and all of our players here Milan. I still feel we can beat anyone, including SMCC, we got 2 losses, one should have been a win, the other we just flat out got beat. SMCC has a great team and they will do the Huron league proud. As for Milan they too are a great team that will do a great job and hopefully make a long run in the play offs.
#9 Dad
Rouge will be Division 4. Riverview will be Division 3.
TO: October 12, 2015 at 10:02 PM
With respect, Rouge plays in the Michigan Metro Athletic Conference (I think that's what it's called). They play teams like Harper Woods, Hamtramck, Ecorse, Det. Community, etc. No disrespect to them, their program or any of the schools of that conference, But you'd be hard pressed to compare them to the competition level of the Huron League.
Although, I will say that I don't think the View does themselves any favors by scheduling these teams to insure a playoff spot. I understand the rationale, but I question whether it actually does anything to help them improve in preparation for the the playoffs. In fact the only other teams that they've played that will qualify for the playoffs, they've lost too. Yes Rouge is a playoff contender but I think they're like in Div. 8 or something.
Having said all that, Go Bucs!
It seems like the blog is only getting a couple of comments a day. Where did #9 dad go? This all happened after SMCC handled Milan last week. There were so many comments posted about supporting Milan as they entered the last games and the playoffs but now I see no support. Milan is a very talented team that should do well in the playoffs. They were beaten by a better team last week but now it's time to get up, dust off and focus on the games ahead. I believe Milan will make the school proud as they win games in the post season – but now is the time to show them support not only after a win.
From an SMCC Fan with the utmost respect for the players and coaches at Milan.
Teams are moving on, getting ready for the next game. You cant dwell on the past. I think there is only so much talk that can be had. Good Luck to SMCC in this upcoming game friday.
Hey Chris, with all the controversy lately about Draft Kings you might have to find a new sponsor. Someones giving Verna's a lot of free publicity in the comments. It sounds like a popular place, maybe they can be your title sponsor and you can cash in on their success? 😉
There's a better chance Cisco comes back and runs the spread and makes the playoffs than Jefferson beating cc.
You win. I'll get one for Airport JV comment person too. I'll be there at 10pm Friday night wearing a Spartan hoodie, even if Jefferson upsets SMCC.
I'll buy ya a beer at Verna's for the best "than Jefferson beating SMCC" joke posted on this thread.
Why do we keep talking coulda should woulda? SMCC did what they should and won those games end of story. Now lets get are three Huron league playoff teams…….hopefully, some support. Finish strong and best of luck in the playoffs.
Kipf is COY because of the way they beat teams and he managed the team. No one else had any answers.
Milan needs Lindeman very much to have success right now. Carrabino is very good but only one cog in a well oiled machine at SMCC. Interchangeable parts.
SMCC has easiest road in playoffs up to the quarters. Records are deceiving for many teams they'll play. Competition not nearly as good as HL.
I can't get on searn either
Anybody else having trouble getting on searn?
Airport's JV has a better chance of making the playoffs than Jefferson beating SMCC!
Kipf is the only choice for COY.
Riverview can beat both GI and Rouge.
-bn
Riverview better hope they beat GI this week to secure that playoff spot, Rouge is 6-1 and they only lost is to an Pioneer team who lost to Loyola only, which by the way is another Catholic league power house. We will see.
Some times it is the coaches fault and not the kids. That's why Coach Kipf is the Coach of the Year.
FR had a better chance of making the playoffs than Jefferson beating cc
Smcc has four sophomores on varsity in woolford O'brien Fleck and Haut. They only have a handful of sophomores on the JV team. SMCC lost a lot of kids from the class of 2018. Around 8 of the 20 kids still play.
Lindeman was on varsity as a freshman. And he was a starter.
You have a better chance of seeing a Fermi melt down then a Jefferson win over SMCC this year.
Honestly you have got to be kidding right? Kudos to the Bears if it's not a running clock the second half.
CC is the second ranked team in division 6. They are going to win the Huron League with a win against you. You will not be taken lightly.
I can only think of four sophomores.
5 sophomores on Varsity for Smcc!!
In comments from the JV scores someone said something about SMCC having only 5 Sophmores on the JV team. How many Sophmores are on Varsity?? I find it hard to believe that they would have a lot on Varsity. So where is the Sophmore over there??
It's time to move forward. It's Jefferson in week 8 for the out right Huron League Title. That's the only thing that SMCC should be thinking about.
I have seen Riverview twice and SMCC three times. SMCC wins that game 9 times out of 10.
Riverview has also improved each week. No doubt they should have beat them week 1. The team that played Milan week 2 was not the same team with with the narrow loss to SMCC. Good luck to SMCC as they advance. The View is batting down the hatches and ready to weather the storm when GI visits this week. Love the blog Chris thanks for keeping a place for us crazy football fans to chat.
If Riverview and SMCC would play again I would think SMCC would roll them pretty bad. They no doubt have improved every game.
To: October 11, 2015 at 6:05 PM
I don't think a loss to GI keeps Riverview out of the playoffs, although it would be better to secure that spot prior to the Rouge game. I hear good things about them. But the View is playing pretty solid right now and if they can maintain ball control and keep GI's offense off the field I like their chances. I think the View boys are playing a little "angry" right now. I don't think they feel like they shoulda lost to SMCC or Milan so I think they'll be pretty focused. Of course the Islanders will be up to. This rivalry match is always a bit unpredictable and usually both teams bring their best games, regardless of record.
For all you guys crying about SMCC:
Since 2000
Airport– 6
Milan — 5
SMCC— 5
View— 1
Jefferson 1

Did you watch the game? I can think of two different instances where he ran a player over on Friday at Milan.
That's funny. I'm sure you had a feeling that it would happen that way. Keep doing a good job.
Some people don't realize it's just a game sometimes, while we all want to win every game that's not always how it works but it's not the end of the world if your team loses
-JN
Hmmmm, nearly 12 hours since anyone has posted. I wonder why. Funny how people won't put a name on their writings.
Well since some people are so mean spirited, you will now need a Google account to post comments.
I think it's kinda unfair to try to compare Carrabino & Lindeman. Both are extraordinary football players and seem to be great kids. They both do great with the hands they're dealt.
I would take Airports JV runners. lol. Just joking. Carrabino is a great kid. I know this for a fact. He is a great teammate. I hear and get the same impression of #9. They are each their own. No need to compare them. Milan will take #9 and SMCC will take #4. Parents on here talking crap about them and after game Friday they said their prayer togather. They have more class than the people on this blog. If Milans QB was benched Friday by coach then I just gained a ton of respect for the Milan coaches who put the lesson of a young man in front of the " gotta have him to win " syndrome.
Carrabino is 5'6 and 165 people and if you look at their bench press and squat carrabino is a lot stronger than lindeman, also Bino is just as fast
Is Carrabino a senior or a JR? I really expect Lindemen to get into the weight room this off season. Bulk up and put some weight on; he'll be a beast next year! I hope to see it. But this season, I'd take Carrabino. Not only fast but a tank.
KC
Carrabino is 5'3 135lb – Milan was bigger, faster and stronger – you win.
#4 from smcc is probably 5'5 or 6. 190 no way
S.M.C.C. takes every team seriously because every team they play brings their A game. As for the best back I give the nod to Carrabino.
Whoever thinks Jefferson will knock off CC is a clown. CC will never come out flat. I attend SMCC and as a part of the football program I know the amount of discipline and sacrifice in the program. Kipf fires everyone up and the pre game is electric. Go green and gold.
SMCC '19
Does Carrabino do better than Lindeman if he were in Milan's backfield against that CC defense? Vice versa?
We would love to have Lindeman out there with us. He would do a great job for us and would fit in perfectly.
SMCC FAN
Based on the stats, I wouldn't know which kid I would pick between Lindeman or Carrabino. I would want to know which one has better grades? Which one spends more time volunteering rather than hanging with friends? Which one knows the name of the 3rd string defensive tackle on the JV team? Which one encourages his teammates, including JV players? Which one does the right thing when no ones watching? These qualities don't come out in the stats. I hope both these young men excel in these areas as much as they do on the football field.
Thats very true! I like that!!
Grosse Ile beats Riverview this week and ends there chances at the playoffs. They will pass all over the Bucs.
No way Jefferson beats CC. They don't look past anybody.
I would choose either RB in an instant. I think they both fit very well on the teams they're on. They'd both do just fine on the other teams, but better off where they are.
Here is my post from last week: I have seen both teams play twice. It's a tough call. It's like choosing between chocolate or strawberry ice cream. Both are very very good, but different. Lindeman is both fast and elusive. Carrabino is fast and will run you over. I think Lindeman is about 5-10 165 while Carrabino is about 5-9, 190. I like them both.
Carrabino will run you over? Chris I believe you were watching a different player.
Not saying one is better than the other, but I would think Lindeman means more to Milan than Carribino means to SMCC. If you take them both out of the game, who suffers more? I would say Milan does. I personally think both are all state players.
Well Chris, I don't think you would ask about the two running backs without wanting to give your two cents. Really would like to hear your opinion before the masses begin crap talk. I was at the game so I'll give mine while I wait to hear yours.
This was the first game since last year that Carrabino needed to prove he is one of the best backs in the county. Stats sometimes cloud what's real – best example is you along with many others believing SMCC would lose. If the coach from SMCC didn't "season" the other first year varsity running backs (by the way example of great coaching) Carrabino would have been running the ball 20 times a game this year. Both he and Lindeman are great running backs but in the big game when it's not about getting stats the nod goes to the toughness and cutting ability of Carrabino. He didn't seem as slow as people made him out to be either.
My picks still Lindeman. The kids the real deal.
SV
Jefferson knocks off Smcc.. Smcc will be flat and won't take us seriously…. GO BEARS..
Keep blazin'!
Bears passing game will be back Pickens .starts fiola wilkens standifer opens up offense Kull and receiver's go do 300 yards Humphrey 100 sovey catches two TD.
Bears deliver knock out punch and beat Smcc and shock the world 35-14.. You heard it here first.. GO BEARS!!
More predictions from the drum circle.
Feeling confident in your Spartans Chris? Most State fans I know seem less confident than they were a month ago. EM
Lindeman- he's sitting with an average of 12-13 yards a carry this year.
Barnes missed practice and had to sit. I'm still with Lindeman he is faster and all it takes is 1 hole and he can be gone. He only touched the ball 8-9 times Friday. Carrabino is good but not near as fast. He had a great line that blocked for him and that was the difference. They had the better team and it showed.
Flat rock and Huron both big games with nothing at stake besides pure pride. I love watching that rivalry game. Lot of hate there but is usually full of sportsmanship
Milan's QB missed the 1st quarter for disciplinary reasons. I think Milan was winning after 1 though 14-13.
