Huron League Thoughts and Questions

Milan seems to be getting better and better.

SMCC too!

Riverview is clearly the 3rd best team in the Huron League.

I believe Jefferson has another win in them.

There is speed, then there is speed.

Airport has one more shot at another win.

Disappointing season for the Chiefs thus far.

You can’t win them all Flat Rock. Get one more win and the season is a success.

Cortez Gray or Tyler Chase?

Justin Carrabino or Trace Lindeman?

Adam Kipf or Jesse Hoskins?

I know what game I will be at this week.

That was certainly football weather Friday.

Why so many rude people on the blog this season?

Lions free!

Why are all my UM friends looking past Northwestern and toward October 17th?

Spartans will!

  1. This has nothing to do with running backs, but as bad as Eastern is they are not a D2 school. They went down to Baton Rouge and played LSU about as tough as anyone has the season. 21 to 14 at halftime and 30-22 to start the fourth quarter. They r not good don't get me wrong, but would beat a D2 school by a lot

  2. Carrabino has some strong legs, but it has slowed him down. He might bust a few more tackles, but he is a little slower. Lindemann can flat out fly.

    Should be a great game.

All about the time clock. SMCC still first game done every week.

  3. I have seen both teams play twice. It's a tough call. It's like choosing between chocolate or strawberry ice cream. Both are very very good, but different. Lindeman is both fast and elusive. Carrabino is fast and will run you over. I think Lindeman is about 5-10 165 while Carrabino is about 5-9, 190. I like them both.

  4. Chris has seen both teams play more than once. He will tell you who the better back is from a neutral opinion. And we all know the answer.

  5. I love how people stir the pot! Lol. Regardless of who thinks who is better, and who thinks which team will win, the facts are both teams are really good. Both backs are really good. This game means a lot to both teams and it is going to be a dandy.
As #9 Dad I know what he can do. As a fan of high school football I hope this game lives up to the expectations that we all think it will be. #9 is 165 lbs as well. The only differences I see are 2, one wears #4 and the #9 and one is a senior and one is a junior. Maybe Friday will tell it all.
Again no disrespect, #4 is good, SMCC is a great team, I believe Milan gets it done.

  6. Milan is predictable by formation. Maybe not by run/pass but they have always been true when they come out in certain formation what they will do. So I guess we are back to all Huron schools being predictable. That said you know what your going to get, yet the great offenses still score points even if the point at the hole they are running or to the WR they are passing.

Let just enjoy the spirit of competition and let the players decide the outcome of the game. Good luck to all.

    1. Yea that's good. I would like to see that. His bench press might be what? 350 or 400?
Don't blow him up to be something he's not. I seen where he was at the combine in Saline, he ran like a 4.95 in the 40. That number is posted.
Let's just wait and see come Friday who is the better back. Trace will do his talking on the field. Along with me and the rest of the Big Reds. And don't forget about Tez or Meech, all 3 will get it done.

  7. Every offense in this league is predictable. I would say the one that isn't would be Milan. I'm sure opposing coaches would agree.

  8. If you think anyone in this league runs harder then Trace, you don't know very much about football. And stronger? No that's not the case either. The kid is a beast. Started on varsity as a Freshman and ran for 1200 yds. And only a junior. It's scary to think how good he will be as a senior.

  9. Milan's run game is rather predictable. #7(gray i think) leads up the hole each and every play. I mean EVERY ONE.

  10. Carrabino runs harder(maybe by offensive design) and is much stronger(strongest on the team at 165lbs).. Lindeman is shiftier and makes people miss a bit easier. Both are fine backs… Im sure anyone would be fine with either of them… and as a matter of fact, they are.

    1. I don't think I totally agree with your statement BN. #9 has put on a lot of muscle this year. Ask #12 from Huron. What I do think is that both are so so similar in so many ways. The thing is, they both play defense, so both will have the opportunity to go head to head. This game is going to be what us Tennessee folks call slobber knocker!
We will find out who wants it the most. Can't wait !

  11. Riverview has one of the best defenses I've seen they are big and they are fast very good players from the corners to the safey , lb core and line there really isn't a whole in there defense..don't get me wrong they might have a bad game but overall solid.

    1. I agree, I think both teams are very good and both have lots of talent. It will be close and I think it depends in which team has the fewest mistakes and penalties.

    1. I don't think so either. That's crazy. I do think Milan will win but I'm afraid to even give a spread. SMCC is for real and you have to respect them. Don't insult a good team by talking smack. Let the boys play Friday night do that.
If Milan wins by 3 TD's SMCC made a bunch of mistakes. Same goes for Milan. Both teams have to play their "A" game.

  12. I would never rule out any school any week. Jefferson always plays CC tough. Record is just under .500 against them since 2000. Probably best in conference.

Huron in downward spiral, Jefferson looked good against FR. You never know folks.

  13. If you are so inclined, please help us vote to have this week's Huron League showdown get covered by MLive-Ann Arbor as their Game of the Week.

(This may help get the game any coverage at all, if last week's game at Grosse Ile is any indication.)

While Chelsea at Ypsilanti is a decent matchup, I think SMCC at Milan is better. Here's the link to vote:

    Thank you in advance, everyone!

  14. The game being at Milan is a clear advantage with officiating and lighting on the field. Should be a great game.

  15. Both are very good backs. Both would not be as good in opposite offenses. Both are great HS football players. Trace is a D-2 kid. Not sure caribenno is. A lot of that is because trace has another year to develop and play. I think Carrabino could be a preferred walk o. At a D 2 school and eventually play if he wanted to.

Cortez gray and Tyler chase are different players. Both great. Chase is a nose tackle at the next level if he chooses to play D -3 and gray might be a safety at the D -2 level

  16. Lindeman would be my pick. Seeing that kid play for the last 3 years and he's only getting better as the season goes on. The kid is a beast on the field. I did see him run over a few kids during the Huron game.

  17. We seem to be talking a lot about backs. Three things determine this game. 1) OL play, who executes better? 2) Which defense makes the most stops or creates turnovers. 3) Who makes the least mistakes.

The running backs only get what the OL PROVIDES. # 9 might be able create more in space from the spread. #4 will hurt you on power sweep and off tackle if he gets downhill before touched by a defender.

Coach Kipf is not a rookie coach. He has been seasoned and understands his game plan. Jesse relies heavily on his coordinators but pulls rank when he needs too. I think this at best is a wash.

UM will be ready, but so will NW. Sparty can't let teams back into games. Will drop in polls. OSU may be in trouble. Could be a fun Big 10 showdown.

  18. #9 and #4 both great running backs. #9 is fast in open field. #4 is able to make cuts at full speed and also has great vision. If needed #4 will run people over and and has the strength to stiff arm defenders to the ground. I've not seen that with #9 as he seems to just run straight down the field with people chasing. Both are overcoming injuries and seem to be back to healthy this week. Both are great but my nod goes to #4. This should be a great game Friday. Good luck to both teams.

    1. Here's a question, how do you think #4 would do in Milan offensively and how would #9 do at SMCC offensively ? Chris your thoughts too.
      #9 Dad

  19. #9 dad – nothing wrong with picking him. Good player and he is your boy. I'll take Carribino. I hope both teams play well and most importantly, injury free. No shame in either team losing this game. Let us prey!

  20. I personally think Milan still has not played to the best of their ability. They are on fire right now and you can see little things that need work but you can also see improvements of the line, pass defense. Of coarse I will say Milan wins this week, my thoughts are that SMCC will have to match score for score. It's going to be a great game that's for sure.
    # 4 from SMCC or # 9 from Milan?
Again I pick # 9 but it depends on what your looking for. They both are truely complete backs who can do it all. I don't know how fast # 4 is, I do know how fast # 9 is.
Flat Rock has had a successful season in my book. One win alone in the league shows improvement.

  21. Wolverine fans are "looking past" NW and talking about State most likely because they are talking to you. I wonder if harbaugh is looking past NW?

    1. I wasn't "Clearly" aware that Big Blue was a good football team. Keep beating up on those freshman QB's. Your schedule that matters starts this weekend. #selling results

  22. No faith at all in Jefferson beating CC or Huron? I believe that's why the games are played. Just like Huron should be the favorite for the League. Just like Airport should have no problem with FR. Above all these are high school kids playing a game. Never know what can happen. Now yes, it is a long shot for them to win one or both…but never say never!
    BEAR DOWN EVERY DOWN

  23. Michigan will NOT look past Northwestern, for 1 they shut out a decent Minnesota team and 2 its homecoming!

I never got to see Tyler Chase play, but Cortez was a beast Friday night (had the pleasure of talking with his father during the game) Milan had their way with Grosse Ile….they were unstoppable in the first half.

It's very hard for me to pick against Trace (Lindeman) I have watched that kid the past 3 years on varsity, he is a very talented (special) player to have wearing the Red and Black (maybe I'm partial being a Milan alum) but he is that good!

SMCC always brings their A game, there is no smack talking here, we'll let them boys take care of business Friday night!

Good luck to both squads and may they play a good game and injury free

  24. Chase and Gray are completely different players…. I don't think you really can compare them that much. Ones an outside rusher and the other is a hole stopper

  25. I would take Chase, Lindeman, and Hoskins he has more experience in big games. As a Michigan fan I am not looking past Northwestern, never look past a team that plays great defense. Spartans will what? Drop in the polls. EM
