Huron League Thoughts and Questions

The blog is going to remain free. (Please remember that)

How much is SMCC going to miss Jack Giarmo?

Can Huron finally win a league championship?

Riverview seems to be loaded with talent and depth.

Odds are I won’t pick against Milan this season.

I’m pretty sure I know who Grosse Ile’s next highly talented quarterback will be.

Is the coaching pressure on over at Airport?

I thought Jefferson would be better last season, I won’t make that mistake again.

Can Flat Rock finally win one?

Anybody capable of making a long playoff run in the league this year?

Who would you rather start a team with? Huron’s Hartwick, SMCC’s Carrabino or Milan’s Lindeman?

Best coach in the league?

I think we are looking at 4 or possibly 5 playoff teams this year.

What game should I go see week 1?

  1. SMCC will be respectable this year, but headed downhill quickly. Rough years ahead. Freshman enrollment is 65. Got to lower tuition. Riverview Gabriel Richard is $6500, less than 350 kids and full facilities. Turf football field even. Something doesn't add up.

Anyhow, SMCC 5-4 this year behind Huron, Riverview and Milan. The best class they have ever had is gone. Downhill from here. Before the bottom falls out next year.

  2. How can you say SMCC will dominate the entire league when they just lost their head coach and entire coaching staff? They will be competitive but they won't dominate this year. EM

  3. Milan´s went 9-0 two of the last three under coach Hoskins so i dont think football died and there are many returning starters so i think milans going to be really good this year

  4. Milan won 2 of the last 3 titles under Hoskins. Not exactly dead lol

Milan will go D-4 btw declining population every year

  5. I'm thinking you went out on a limb for Jefferson one season to early Chris. If they can control the line of Scrimmage @ all they could surprise a few teams. I believe top to bottom they have one of the best overall skill players in the league. With a lot of speed that can cause Problems Time will tell. Numbers are down so def have to stay away from Injuries. I do think Riverview is the team to beat though

    1. Offense skill is better than last year.wilkens Kull.should be good if they can runthe ball some that offense can explode have standifer tall receiver good weapon.also folia can be good. Defense needs to be better defonso anchors line ..linebackers week last .should be better.

  6. Riverview has a lot of talent returning from last year's playoff team. They have also had a very good JV team the last two years (17-1). That doesn't always equate to varsity success, but more times than naught it does. They have very good coaching as well. They need to find a QB and replace some skill guys, but it should be a very good season at Riverview.

  7. A big thank you.
I am an Milan grad and a my children go to a Tecumseh. Thanks for keeping the Blog going.
It is very enjoyable to watch the interaction on this board. I am hoping for a good game to start the season. My son is getting excited about the SMCC game.

  8. I would start a team with Hartwick, best QB in the league for sure. Huron has a legit shot at a league title as do Milan Riverview and SMCC. Airport and GI will give teams fits as well. Losing Giarmo could hurt but I believe they still have enough talent to make a run in D6. I could see Huron or Milan winning a D3 district. I'm hoping Airport will be more than just the Dylan Meiring show, he's good but he's gonna need some help if they are gonna have a good season. EM

    1. And has a very good chance of winning another this year. They had talent last year but failed to show it. They have a lot this year, just have to play together.

    2. If Milan can keep the penalties down; and keep the ball moving up field; they will do just fine. That was the issue from what I saw during their game with Huron. Penalties will hurt a team as we've all seen with the Lions. Good luck to your son this year.
      KC

  9. HARTW ICK IS THE BEST QB IN THE LEAGUE. 1000 yds plus rushing & 1000 yds passing last year. FRYER 1000 yds plus last year did not start until 3rd game. they are bigger & stronger up front than last year. WITH THA T BEING SAID I DONT KNOW IF THEIR RECORD WILL BE BETTER, AS THE LEAGUE TO ME LOOKS STRONGER.

  10. It's hard to pick who is the best team or who is the best coach this time of year. We are all fans of are high schools or our kids that play or have played in the past. That's what makes this blog fun. The only thing I can say is what I've seen and the kids that I know. Personally I think Matt is the best QB in the league hands down. This time last year no one really gave Huron a chance, other then their fans. SMCC will be a tough game for any one. Love playing them. Riverview I can't say much about. They beat us last year yes, Airport I think should be descent. GI will be a team that needs to find out who they are now that Mitroka is in Findley. Milan, well, I think Chris is right. 8-1 might be a little more than generous. I believe the D will be better, and the O line will be a lot better. Hoskins is a great coach with a very strong supporting cast of coaches. It's going to be exciting to watch this season. And I do not believe football left with Coach Rob. I don't know the guy, heard good things about him but I do know Hoskins and he will motivate Milan and they will do just fine. Good luck to everyone this season.

  11. I feel really good about riverview this year. With most of their defense returning, 4 returners on the line, all they need now is a QB who can hand the ball of too a Running back. Regarding that, idk who riverviews RB will be this year weather it will be Eric Gant from last year or moving their fullback Tyler Chase to running back. Either one can put of great numbers but I'm just curious how that will work out. Any thoughts on riverview Chris?

  12. Thanks for the blog, Chris, we have enjoyed it for many years, look forward to it.

SMCC will miss Jack for a few years but will realize, life goes on, and they will continue to win.
Huron needs to win this year, may be their only chance.
Riverview will be tough but are they ready? They always seem to have talent but never use it correctly.
Milan wins in basketball, football died when Robb left.
GI always has a good QB, but nothing else to go with it.
I hope Airport gets it together.
Not sure how to fix Jefferson??
Flat Rock has more heart and determination than most other programs, never enough kids. Flat Rock should beat Summit.
SMCC will go deep into playoffs, again. Possibly Huron.
    Hartwick
No best coach, their all fair, need to prove themselves.
4 playoff teams, SMCC, Huron, GI and Riverview.
    SMCC week 1
