Huron (9-1) is coming off of a 40-21 playoff victory over Huron League rival Riverview while Trenton (7-3) defeated Romulus in the first round by a score of 20-6. This is the first meeting between these two teams in football.
Offensively, Huron continues to ride the big play ability of junior QB Matt Hartwick and senior WR Devin Collins. All nine of Hartwick’s TD passes have gone to the speedy Collins while the quick footed Hartwick has eleven rushing TD’s and is averaging over ten yards per carry.
The Chief’s defense continues to do just enough and made some slight changes last week after giving up 14 points to Riverview in the 1st quarter. Defensive ends Justin Carey and Jacob Davis anchor a physical defensive line while junior LB Steele White leads the linebacking corp.
Trenton is led by veteran coach Bob Czarnecki and started the season with two straight losses. The Trojans have won seven of eight games since. The Trojans are led by senior Christian Mercure. The athletic QB missed three games this season due to injury, but is a big threat through the air and on the ground. Senior RB Brad Boler has found the end zone seven times this season while senior Nick Porreca leads a capable receiving corp.
The Trojan defense is led by senior LB”s Conor Cunningham and Ryan Coleman. Junior Grant McClellan and senior Luke Steffke provide solid depth while junior Jake Nabonzy leads the Trojans in INT’s.
This should be a good match up between two solid teams. I saw Trenton early in the year and they have improved immensely since. It will be a cold night, but expect a big crowd. Prediction: Huron 28 Trenton 20
Huron Chiefs win 44-27!
GO CHIEFS! 🙂
Oooooh, now you dun it…
LOL!
Yes
Can I trust everyone?
Chris, can you leave the forum open so scores can filter in closer to live tonight?
I said this earlier and the same still applies. We can throw all the BS on a wall in here, and at the end of the day, it just doesn't matter what we think. Any game after week nine is just icing on the cake, cream in the coffee, call it whatever you want, but with only 128 11-man teams left playing this weekend in Michigan, the kids just need to play their hearts out and enjoy the playoffs for the reward they really are. Nothing smart and nothing snide, but more important is that those kids leave it all on the field.I want Huron to win this game just like the kids do and hopefully, we fans get to watch them play again next week.
Go Chiefs!
C'mon….pride of downriver AP losing to lowest seed DC?
Downriver league tries to make noise but gets nowhere.
These huron kids are on a mission….nothing has gone to their heads…hard workers…Trenton is in for a surprise from these pseudo farm boys.
Only DRL team last two years that would give SMCC a game would be Woodhaven, maybe Wyandotte.
My money would be on Jack
Go huron, go SMCC!
My vote is weather will not affect huron: they played riverview game like it was 80 degrees , calm and sunny. Quite amazed to say the least.
Let's review class: the comment was huron league stronger than DRL "THIS YEAR" We'll let it play out in a day. Good luck to all players involved.
If someone is saying drl is stronger than hl we'll see friday huron vs trenton. go chiefs
Milan fan
Bigger isn't always better.
The Downriver league schools average enrollment is 1196. The Huron League average is 726.
Only Melvindale has a lower enrollment than the highest Huron League team, Riverview.
The Huron League was over .500 against the old Mega league, before the break up.
Trenton is 1-6 all time vs. Huron League teams in the playoffs.
You saying the DRL is better than the Huron says less.
How do you explain an average Divine Child team beating Allen Park?
They were coming off of a 70-6 loss to Loyola.
Maybe the Downriver League stinks this season.
calpreps doesn't prove anything. Woodhaven,Wyandotte and probably AP would beat CC, Huron and GI. More athletes to select from. I think Trenton would give GI, Huron, and Riverview a good game. Notice I didn't mention CC.
Actually I saw their scrimmage at South Lyon East where they gave up 5 TD's to Michigan Collegiate. I didn't think the defense would be good enough to be better than 5-4. Didn't they finish 5-4 last season?
say what?

You picked them 5-4 for the same reason you pick them to lose the big games.. most of the time.
The downriver league is stronger. The top teams, Woodhaven, Wyandotte, Allen Park, and Trenton are stronger than CC,GI, Riverview, and Huron. Much bigger schools with a bigger talent pool to select from.
I picked Huron to go 5-4 and pretty much stuck with that thought when picking games much of the season. I thought that was pretty obvious.
SMCC n Huron dominate all-league.
You don't ALWAYS pick who you think is going to win. You have went against Huron to rile them up. It's obvious
I always pick who I think is going to win. This week I see SMCC and Huron as the winners.
Yea Chris. Don't you dare predict against a huron league team at this juncture. No way was downriver league tougher than huron league this year.
I hope Matt H win a district friday. I wonder why he left Milan. I imagine Milan with him on their team.
Saying Trenton had a tougher schedule.. are you insinuating that the Downriver league is challenging and that the Huron league is bad or? Lol Huron has the weapons they need. They'll get the job done.
KC
Should be a good entertaining game with 2 exciting playmakers at QB and 2 solid defenses. I like Huron at home. Huron 24 Trenton 16. EM
The weather would be hard pressed to be any worse than it was last week, so the only question left is, "Is it Friday yet???" Win or lose, this is all icing on top of the football cake for Huron, having the best season in school history and knowing that if they show up to play…if they perform, and the coaches coach, they can continue the dream and stay alive another week. Go Chiefs!
I think this is going to be an evenly matched game. Huron has a better record, however, Trenton had a tougher schedule in the downriver league. This game is a toss up in my opinion. Maybe give Huron a slight edge because they're playing at home. Should be a great game.
