Head coach is pretty arrogant, didn't give CC any credit during the press conference. It was there fault they lost because the offense didn't play well…had nothing to do with CC's defense I guess. Jack gave them complements – showed some class. Don't care for the press coverage. Seems like its all about the streak ending and how Ithica is handling it…very little about how well CC played. Happy that we won but sad to see the season end. This has to be the most exciting season in memory! Def looked forward to Friday nights. Already telling boys from SMCC that they will not be that good. When you going to learn. Jv only list to view and they were missing some good player's if I remember correctly. They will be solid and this years freshmen are good. They easily will contend.
10:25pm Meh, I don't know about this. I'm more about limiting the number of state champs in a state rather than increasing it. With these 3 tournaments, since there are less teams in each, say there are about 4 divisions in each. With the separate playoffs like this, you'll have a total of 12 state champions, and each playoff would have a state champion similar in size/enrollment to another state champion in the other playoffs. It reminds me of wrestling, where you have 4 state champions at each weight class.
While I think the concept is intriguing, you're creating a separation of talent. I never like that separation, so I would debunk it. What about a playoff for the current system, though?
You get the 8 state champions, then do a playoff. On one side you have D1 vs D2 and D3 vs D4, the winners facing in the semis. On the other side you have D5 vs D6 and D7 vs D8. Now potentially you could get Muskegon Catholic Central vs some huge D1 Cass Tech or Clarkston or something, which is scary. Even though it'd never happen due to the time and amount of games per season, but I'd love to see the overall state champion.
10:18am An SMCC player punched it out, and there were about 4 more Falcons there swarming the return man. So Ithaca didn't "give" them a TD, SMCC forced a turnover and ran it in. Good or bad play call, SMCC was in position for the underthrown ball…that's defense for ya. Your claim that Ithaca outplayed SMCC is questionable since play-calling, executing, and limiting turnovers is part of out-playing a team. SMCC did a better job than Ithaca in every one of those departments. They outplayed Ithaca when it counted.
To say we had "luck on our sides" is also questionable. In the JLC game, Willis was starting both ways for one of the first times of the year and had 51 carries(!!!), more than twice his average per game. When a kid has to do that much to keep the game within reach, he's going to get tired and more prone to make mistakes / SMCC stripping him. You may call it luck, I call it executing when it counts.
You said it best at the end…there have been a lot of games SMCC was really close to winning…except on the scoreboard. This felt like one of those games, and SMCC came out on top. Ithaca is young…they'll be back to win a state championship next year I'm sure. I would be fine with Coach Giarmo leaving…but SMCC will be decent next year. They won't be the same team they were this year…but solid nonetheless.

Seriously? C'mon, soccer mom. Pretty soon you will want to reduce the game to "everyone gets a trophy for just showing up". This is football. It's not like that, and hopefully it never will. Unfortunately, we now live in a society that is so "PC" that we have to have little leagues like that for kids, so NO ONE has their feelings hurt. Bottom line is, you have to learn how to WIN, and you have to know how to LOSE. If you just sit around and just expect mediocrity, what is that teaching our future generations? They have nothing to strive for. If you have no goals in life, you're not a well-rounded human being. You don't think that SMCC learned anything from their past playoff losses? Most football teams in the country will tell you that in order to be considered the "BEST", you have to beat the "BEST. Plus, if we had it your way, the MHSAA Football playoffs would be over in April.
Chris my game CO MVPs were Darius Marks and LaPlante. The LaPlante kid was all over the field. Lako was all over the field and had huge runs for TD's. Had he not had the miscue in the 1st half he would have been my player of the game. Lako was also great in pass defense..ahhh ok i'll throw Lako's name in as player of the game!! Marks is tough and the most underrated kid on that team. Good to see Howey back. him at 50 percent is better than most!! I hope Woolford is ok he could barely walk and wouldn't come off the field. Chris. THey don't throw to him because he is a tackle playing TE. They use their TE a ton in blocking. He was in a lot of routes but notice they booted to get Vuich open and Carrabino. And god forbid were the refs HORRIBLE OR WHAT?? NOT TO mention the PA guy who must be 90 years old because he was the same guy calling the game when I went to the sliverdome back in the 80's…he was calling carribino car a lino then it was Carolinas ….give that guy another shot!

They must not teach about puns in the public schools. They should put an asterisk on his diploma, or GED or whatever he has. That guy is a jealous dork. The defense won that game last night. Windham wasn't on his best game on offense, but he more than made up for it on defense. As far as the other idiot that said our win wasn't special, SCOREBOARD!!
Actually Ithaca probably has more transfers (recruited kids) than St. Mary's. They have developed a pipeline from St. John's and along with many good kids in the area. If they think you are good they will take you. Check those facts when you cry about private vs public. Schools of Choice is being manipulated by many schools and Ithaca has to be one of the best at it. They try to get em before they start high school but they will take you if you are willing to sit the 2nd semester. Moving in to the district is much better choice and the A D will gladly advise the parents. But the AD is smart, he lets the "Money Bank Family" do all the behind the scenes "dirty" work, so AD can keep his hands clean. Ithaca will be back along with some fresh new faces that will transfer in for the "time of their life"

I just would like to know how is SMCC being private school different than if a public school won. They have no transfer students. Nobody goes out and recruits 5'6" kids. Our field and facilities suck. Our weight room is sub par. Please explain why we have such the advantage ? Don't take away the fact that our boys just might have had worked harder than yours. I'm sure your team has never even sniffed the playoffs let alone made it out of your district. So show some class! SMCC is the team that ended Ithaca's streak, the longest winning streak in our country, it's over.
I am not bothered by public school fans not liking SMCC. I just don't really enjoy fans belittling other teams for reasons in the same league…when they just won a state championship. I'm not a huge fan of the other teams in the league, in fact we used to hate some (Milan / Airport) of them back in the day. However, when a team like that does well, making constructive criticism comments are appropriate while still giving them credit where credit is due. You seem to not abide by these standards, which comes off as rude and I point out flaws in your argument.
If you don't feel it's the same because it's a private school, then we'll disagree and go on your separate ways. I just don't think posting negative comments like that about a team that JUST won a state championship is warranted…frankly, it comes across as sad and sour grapes.

Alright, let's see what they had more of…more turnovers, more turnovers on downs, and more yards? A team can drive all they want…turning the ball over is part of a good defense and special team play. SMCC did both of those, which kinda shows they're the more well-rounded team. Were they fortunate on some plays? Sure! But punching the ball out on a punt return or being in position for a clutch interception by Windham or Darius are part of being well-coached and playing well. And the more yards part? Here's a statistic for ya:
Michigan had more yards than ND and lost 31-0.

Beat undefeated Clinton coming off of a finals appearance 50-15.
Beat undefeated JLC away with D1 caliber RB 27-26.
Beat good GRNP team 28-0
Beat undefeated Ithaca on a 69 game winning streak…including 4 state championships 22-12.

I'm not a huge fan of the other teams in the league, in fact we used to hate some (Milan / Airport) of them back in the day. However, when a team like that does well, making constructive criticism comments are appropriate while still giving them credit where credit is due. You seem to not abide by these standards, which comes off as rude and I point out flaws in your argument.
If you don't feel it's the same because it's a private school, then we'll disagree and go on your separate ways. I just don't think posting negative comments like that about a team that JUST won a state championship is warranted…frankly, it comes across as sad and sour grapes.
Play on words, as Chris pointed out. It's an SMCC thing. I don't mean to come across as a jerk when responding to your comments, but most people from other schools are fantastic on this blog…giving SMCC tons of encouragement, which is nice to see. When someone doesn't it rubs me the wrong way.

I'm almost positive the original poster was talking about Ithaca there. The previous sentence was talking about them. I also think Ithaca will be one of the best teams in D6 ever.

Alright, let's see what they had more of…more turnovers, more turnovers on downs, and more yards? A team can drive all they want…turning the ball over is part of a good defense and special team play. SMCC did both of those, which kinda shows they're the more well-rounded team. Were they fortunate on some plays? Sure! But punching the ball out on a punt return or being in position for a clutch interception by Windham or Darius are part of being well-coached and playing well. And the more yards part? Here's a statistic for ya:
Michigan had more yards than ND and lost 31-0.
Like 10:23pm said, there are no style points in football. SMCC made the plays to win the game.
