Riverview @ Flat Rock

Riverview (4-1) is coming off of a 24-20 Homecoming loss to Huron while Flat Rock (0-5) fell again to Jefferson 35-14. Riverview won last years game 71-7, but have only won three of the last seven in the series.

The Rams had the opportunity to get a win last week, but came up well short in a game filled with turnovers and penalities. The Rams need to shorten the game and the opponents posessions by taking care of the ball this week

Riverview had been flying high all season until last weeks loss to Huron. RB Eric Gant was effective in the first quarter last week before being neutralized, but should have a big game this week. Look for the Riverview defense to have a big game this week.

This game should be over early as the Pirates will no doubt be in a bad mood after last week. Prediction: Riverview 40 Flat Rock 7

  1. When someone is in trouble you help them not continue to beat them down. FR is struggling and will continue as the schools they face have more kids and more therefore more athletes. FR has a lot of athletes that do not play football as they are getting beat each week and nobody wants to be a part of it. Something has to change there or the program is 4 years from folding. If that happens the league has a hole to fill anyway pr one additional non league game to schedule. The AD's in the league want FR to stay as it helps them get 1 of 6 winds needed for the playoffs, however, not many teams in this league go anywhere on the playoffs on a consistent basis. So the league needs to do what is right and allow FR a chance to step out for 4 to 5 years and try to rebuild and save their program. Proven fact that successful football teams lead to better academic results as well so the school should support it.
FR is better this year but they compete for 1 qtr then are outmatched and tired with all their kids playing both ways.
It was obvious in the game against GR to start the season that FR should play teams of that size and caliber all year. It does not guarantee success but it makes for more competitive games and for sure some would be wins. THe more you win the more kids want to play, the stronger the program gets the more unsustainable it becomes.
There are those who will curse getting out of the league because they played here or they will say "FR JUST GET BETTER", but in life sometimes to get better you have to make a change. What the school is allowing now is just unacceptable and the parents needs to take it to the school board in full force to help the kids.
Think about it…. they are kids looking to compete and be in the best position for success, all we are teaching them now is that you should expect to get beat and we know you are outmatched but deal with it, just get better while we sit here and live in the past and hold onto tradition as you cramp up and spend 1/3 of the game being iced and stretched. But because of Rivalry and tradition you need to just get better.
Michigan and Notre Dame have a long Rivalry as well, do they play every year?
At some level what the FR administration is doing is a form of neglect and their parents should stand up and fight for their kids.

Go ahead and send your pithy replies and bash how weak this is and what a whining post it is and whatever you want to do. You are no different than the bully taking lunch money, you want the weak guy there so you can have an easy win. It is a sad reflection of a society who is all about how they can get ahead and push someone else down, if it were truly about the kids and not the parents EGO every week in youth sports, things would be way better.

Chris – I would love to sit and talk with you on some things going on right now to get your take on it.

  2. It used to be riverview wyandotte Trenton Monroe fordson Lincoln park Bedford Ann arbor Milan all public all
Schools with 1200 plus student bodies not a school of 1800 vs a school of Less than 500 there will be a day when flat rock rises from the bottom River
View with your class size you shouldn't be playing small schools like flat rock and smcc oh that's right smcc for the last how many years viewed your team as one to weak to be in the league Milan and smcc saw you as the gimme game for years but now you have a team enjoy it, didn't you used to play with the big boys ?

  3. One problem that Riverview has is that all of the Downriver schools that are around their size decided to get into a league that has 10 teams and does not play non-league games. They played series with Wyandotte, Allen Park, Melvindale, and Trenton. Why play summit? Driving to Ida is horrible. Driving to Algonac is insane. Richard has less than 300 kids in their high school, they should not be playing Riverview. Heck, they even had a home and home against Marine City and that trip was horrible. Are you suggesting that Riverview should play Detroit CC or Muskegun? A school of 2100+ students? I do not think that NDCC would waste their time playing Riverview. Mayb They should play The Detroit Caesar Chavez Day School Academy. Come on.

    CM

  4. most public schools don't have the Sports budget that CC has. most schools try to schedule schools that are some what close in location. Riverview is smart in my opinion for scheduling Summit at least they know they are one game closer to the playoffs.

  5. Only team left…….. Really? Was it the only team left who would still be a win? Catholic Central (novi) went to Ohio and to Muskegon to play competitive teams, where are those booked as well….

  6. For the comment at 2:56 the only reason Riverview has Summit in their schedule is because they were supposed to have an inner city game rivalry against Riverview Gabriel Richard and play for a Cup just like the "Colvin Cup" that's they do for the G.I. rivalry. However Gabriel Richard backed out at last minute and the only team left to schedule around the area was Summit.

  7. FR needs to play Summit Academy Riverview Richard, Cabrini, Jefferson, Blissfield, Erie Mason, Dundee, Ida. There's a schedule for the rams. Play teams like that.

  8. That is why im saying they need to be in the lCAA. Where schools like Dundee and Mason dress 20 kids and have 4 or 5 good players and 7 fill ins. The schools in the HL have 8 or 9 good players and 2 or 3 holes.

  9. Flat Roack has talent there is no doubting that. They just aren't a good football team. It takes 11 players to play together in order to be a good team.

  10. What good does this do both schools? Riverview needs another "game" to get better. FR needs to play someone they can compete with. Even though Jefferson beat them by 21 pts it wasn't a physical beat down. This will be for the rams. FR needs to get out of the league. They'd be able to beat blissfield, Dundee and mason this year. Just wait Ram fans after Riverview you get a Milan team who will be fired up and Huron, who is your Rival.

  11. News Flash…..Riverivew plays much better defense than last year.. Offensively they are a bit stagnant, I'd like to see them spread out a bit more especially because they'll have to for the playoffs. The hire of Mac is good for them and he has them playing much better defense than stergalas

  12. FR is bad, but they show glimpses of being good then they make a huge mistake or give up a huge play. They're improved from last year but they have to control the ball like chris said and not give up big plays on defense.
