Huron @ Annapolis

Huron (7-1) beat Flat Rock last week 48-6 while Annapolis (3-5) fell to Livonia Clarenceville 41-20. The Chiefs won last years game 42-6.Huron holds an all time edge in the series of 18-5.

Huron is in the middle of their best football season ever. They broke a school record for wins last week. This should be a chance for Huron to get everyone playing time before the playoffs start.

The Cougars seemed to have won the games they should have on the schedule and lost the ones they should have as well. Don’t look for things to change.

Huron looks like they may have out grown this long non-league rivalry. Prediction: Huron 45 Annapolis 6

I need to share further. Had Hartwick not come to town, Molnar was a good QB with a solid arm, and Huron would have still won their fair share of games, probably even the playoffs, but we wouldn't have seen 8-1. Hartwick's scrambling ability puts this team on another level (sans the SMCC game-where they fell into a Huron of old moment.) Put him on any team in this league, and he makes them better.
The other solid step they made was a new defensive coordinator who will at least blitz his backers now and then. Traditionally, high school lines have great difficulty picking up blitzes, even when matched one to one, and well coached. Rather than sitting back and playing reactionary football, Huron now takes a chance, by playing better attacking defense and blows up plays, which in turn makes the team level up their play overall and helps with momentum too.

Just one kid or coach can make a huge difference at this level.

  2. Honestly, they have had a very nice season. The opener and this game are doing little to improve Huron football, but honestly, not many here expected Huron to be 7-1 at this juncture either. Credit some coaching decisions, but more importantly a very talented scrambling quarterback in getting Huron to this level. What happens when Matt Hartwick graduates? Who will step in to fill the huge shoes that kid has provided at the QB position? He's quick to read, is fairly successful at it, and is flat out fast for a QB. Add to that a decent arm, and he makes the coaching staff look like stars, and elevates the level of play of all those kids around him. In a couple of years, you all will be glad to still see an Annapolis or Summit on the schedule.

Regardless of my opinion, good luck this Friday to the Huron boys and enjoy what's right in front of you. It's been a fun ride and hopefully you can get another W or more in the post season.

  3. Looking at huron's scores after the cc game… have they played conservative or did they struggle a bit vs all those teams?
