Huron (2-0) is coming off of a surprising 35-0 win over Grosse Ile while SMCC (2-0) beat Flat Rock 42-0 in a storm shortened game. The Falcons shut out the Chiefs last season 28-0 and have won 27 straight in the series.
SMCC will once again look to pound the ball offensively with their running game. The line is led by Kyle Bausman and Mitchell Poupard. On defense, the Falcons have been pretty dominant giving up just 13 points in the first two games.
Huron will most likely continue with their running game that is led by senior linemen Chase McKay and Jon Krug. Huron was able to shut out GI’s dangerous offensive attack last week, but will have to be better this week if they are to win.
Tough game to figure out here. I think SMCC is a State Championship caliber team while Huron is still trying to prove themselevs a bit. My heart is with Huron, but the safe pick is to go with history and the league favorite. Prediction: SMCC 28 Huron 17
Where are all the Huron people now? I guess they haven't closed the gap with SMCC quite enough, huh?
Loyola is D7.
Montrose, Clinton.
-bn
Constantine, Flint Beecher, Millington, Mad heights Madison are also very good D6 teams. Detroit Loyola probably the best team right now if there enrollment gets them into D6 (273)
They are beating much higher class teams already. Team to beat whatever division they are in.
I would not declare any top teams at this point. Were only 2 games into the season. Hang in there, put the confidence truck in park.
I know half the battle of being good is thinking your good. Don't have to start that already.
Lumen is not d5 they are d6
Nothing Is really decided til after all the regular season games are played. However, 417 in the past has placed you squarely in D6.
I am 97.8% sure both Lumen and SMCC will be D6 this year.
Grand Rapids West Catholic is on the border with 438. If they drop down to 6 it will make for quite a showdown somewhere down the line.
-bn
the top 3 teams in D6 this year are Ithaca, SMCC and JLC
-bn
OMG- Lumen and SMCC are both D6 this year.
-bn
Big game at Huron next week in volleyball when SMCC comes to Huron. Class #1 SMCC vs Class B #2 Huron.
Hang in there on that Volleyball championship. Lots of good teams out there. I hear its Tullers last year, girls probly will be trying extra hard to send her out in style.
Lumen and SMCC both have enrollments of 417 for 2014-2015 per MHSAA. Call me crazy for not understanding why Lumen is D5 and SMCC is D6.
CC had a higher enrollment last year. That moved them up to 5. This year however they r back to 6.
-bn
Bounced around, have been d6 and class c for along time. Last year they moved the cutoff for class c down so that why cc and lumen Christi were class b and d5 last year. Look for another volleyball state championship in class c.
I believe you on the D6. Just funny how they have bounced around classes and divisions the past several years. I guess most of us are not privy to how that pans out.
West Catholic is on the border of D5-6
-bn
256 teams make the playoffs. They we be divided into 8 divisions of 32. Class means nothing. CC with an enrollment of 417 is D6 without a doubt.
-bn
SMCC is D6, please just trust me. I've done this before
-bn
So 416 makes them D5 right?
It is based on the February count. That number is certified by the AD, Principal and Superintendent. I believe both SMCC and Lumen Christi were 416.
Right now starting this fall cc has about 397. Enrollment is based on last springs enrollment count. Chris being an ad probably knows this better
How is SMCC D6? They have the same exact enrollment as Lumen. Big class C = D5?
Seriously like you are really from cc. BN hit it on the head teams trying to fire up their own teams by putting stuff on here trying to fuel their own fire lol.
Don't be bad mouthing the CYO
Size? Haha we dont give a damn how big they are….CC
Obviously its not all about the numbers. If that were the case the bigger schools would always win. There are small schools all over the state with great programs. Its easier to have a great program at a small school.
As for CYO, there are many great kids in the Huron League who don't even know what the CYO is. It just depends on what youth organization you are familiar with.
Its all about the talent and what talent your school can attract. Great talent makes any coach look good.
Successful youth programs teach kids the fundamentals of football … blocking and tackling. Both Huron's Jr program and CYO are good programs.
Just curious, how are we defining a "successful" youth program.
Well said 11:17. I am familiar with the program also, but I would say too much credit to SMCC their. They have a good program also with the CYO and all, But the CYO has diminished a lot in recent years and the first downers, plus Hurons program has surpassed them. With that said Huron will prevail this time and will be in the mix for years to come.. Chiefs will win.
Give me 867 kids over 417 any day of the week. Its all about numbers.
The CYO is the reason smcc was so good all those years. Huron got wise and implemented their own version of youth football.
There are members of Flat Rock, Jefferson and Airport that played in the CYO. Some of their best players to be honest(Meiring,Goretski,DelFonso) the list goes on.
Give me 867 with a youth feeder vice 417 all day long.

Yes SMCC is squarely in D6.
-bn
It seems like the Huron people are maybe getting a little crazy about the Chiefs blowing out a very very good and well coached SMCC team.
Let me offer a little insight into that program
These kids aren't what typical league watchers are used to when it comes to Huron. I'm talking over a 30 year period where they had 20 kids or less on the team and had only a few kids with any experience playing football. When the high school had 300 boys and only 50 of them were athletes of any type. Where the coaching carousel changed on almost a yearly basis.
This years team of juniors and seniors were the first group that started playing football in the Huron Youth Football League as 1st and 2nd graders. Every year HYBA exposes 250 boys from 1st-6th grade to the game of football. The high school has also grown in size and now has 450 boys in the school with close to 200 male athletes playing some sort of sport. They are no longer just farm boys and blue collar kids. They come from all walks of life. Blue collar families, white collar fanilies, college educated parents, rich, poor and middle class. They have everything you can imagine in that high school community.
They have a coach who has been there for nearly a decade and whether you like him or not, he with the help of a handful of people have built that into a respectable program. They have a roster of 45 on the varsity, 27 on the JV, 35 on the freshmen team and nearly 40 on each of the 7th and 8th grade teams. Did you read that right? Thirty five on a freshmen team when most schools are dropping their frehmen teams. Right now only Huron and Jefferson have freshmen teams and Jefferson only has 15 players.
They implemented weight lifting into every hour of the school day. They now offer 15 weight lifting classes that do the bigger faster stronger program over the entire year. A kid who used to be 6'0" 160 is now 6'0" 185.
I know this, whenever Kalby decides he is done. There will be a boatload of people pounding on the AD's door wanting that job. It has turned into a sleeping giant.
After I have siad all of that. SMCC will win this game by 2 TD's or more. They simply have a better team period.
Huron proved all they needed to prove with the thumping of the red devils.
28-14
huron wins it
Has it been determined CC is D6 ?
I know they are class C. Anyhow, not a good comparison.
Do you want to pick from 867 kids that live in the New Boston area or from 417 kids that pay to go to school and are from all over the county. Well, this year the cream of the crop from the 867 is very good. Especially in football. The Chiefs have come along way in their program and with all the hard work, from the 1st/2ng grade flag program on up to the Varsity, it will all finally payoff this year. This weekend will be 1 more step.
CHIEFS 28 SMCC 17
Robinson is that rare breed of quickness and power, he is a tough back. The Qb is the best in the league. Huron is absolutely huge on the line with fast LB's.
If you think huron wont beat smcc you are mistaken. don't let the past aid in your decision. this team is like no other huron team in history and will beat cc rather easily.
31 -14 Huron wins going away
Moron
Huron fans.. pipe down and just let the pads talk Friday. We know Huron is much improved and has a chance. CC will always think they're God's in the HL. so let them talk and let the scoreboard teach. Good luck Chiefs.
KC
Draws up his playbook with crayons. LMAO….. Best quote I've ever seen on here
Huron is MUCH faster than Tecumseh.
cc has no chance in this one.
35-21
huron is no bigger than Tecumseh was and look at that result. just saying.
SMCC will not be able to handle the size AND speed of Huron. D3 vs D6, MISMATCH
Its Hurons year!!
35-21 Huron CHIEFS!!
You make it sound as if because your enrollment makes you D3 that it means you're good. You know who else is D3? Tecumseh! And they have a good coach, not a guy that draws up his playbook with crayons. Udub
