Thoughts and Prayers to the Flat Rock Community.
SMCC beat Grosse Ile by four TD’s not the three I predicted.
Riverview just keeps rolling.
Huron looked really good for a half Friday.
Airport has five tough games in a row.
How many Huron League teams get into the playoffs?
Jefferson has really surprised me.
I’m not sure if Milan can right the ship.
If Flat Rock ever deserved a win, it would be this week.
Huron’s Devin Collins had a great game with 3TD’s and 2 Int’s Friday.
Milan’s Trace Lindeman was the best player on the field for Milan Friday.
I am positive that Airport will be another SMCC blowout victim.
I think that 1994 Jefferson team ran the same 2 plays the entire game and went on to a state championship. It is about execution. If you have the right players in the right positions in the right system any offense can be effective.
cm
College QB's don't get recruited for how good they hand off.
You guys need to get out of Monroe a little bit
Also, for those who criticize the T offense or any run-heavy offense, be sure to tune in to the State Finals on TV each year. You'll be sure to see a team run a T or a double wing. You might even see a team from the U.P. run an old school single wing offense. You'll also likely see a team run a passing spread and sling it all over the place.
My point is the same as before: teams have to execute their system to win.
To be fair, I don't think it's a matter of Milan's offense being "figured out" any more than the T is "figured out" when SMCC has a rare down season. Execution of any scheme is key.
Milan needs the pass to be a threat so the run is more effective. Kanitz was far from a pass-first QB, but the threat of an occasional seam pass or throw over the top kept defenses more honest. Teams have been able to stuff the box against the Big Reds all season long with no consequences.
You don't need 50/50 balance between pass and run, but any style of offense is more effective when it gives defenses more things to fear.
It takes more teamwork to run a spread than the T. Its a Monroe county thing. Whatever works I guess. When the most likely league champion runs the most boring defense known to man, it doesn't do much for the rest of us.
Why did it take the HL so long (2 yrs) to adjust and figure out Milan's offense…Come out the stone age DCs
You want to see talent, real talent, go to TX, FL, LA, CA, OH. Those are where the majority of the talent comes from.
The Huron league produces good HS players for the most part.. and that's about it.
Talent is everywhere
The name of the game is to win. Whatever system you run. Nothing worse than a no talent team trying to run shotgun spread. The T teaches teamwork and team before self more than any other offense. Great life lessons.
I would love to see more recruiting down here, but I think these conservative, play it safe offenses down here are hindering that. Spreading it out, doing some passing and having different formations, plus some audibles from time to time might shed some light on some more up to date football and some more recruiting around here. The downriver teams and Milan are working on it, Jefferson is making a scary attempt, but the rest are still conservative.
These offenses still work for some, but do not attract many recruiters. I do understand we have to have talented enough players to pull this off, but if they are raised on spreading it out and passing in first downer programs and the cyo, by high school they could be talented enough. Time for a change.
Could you only imagine how exciting SMCC's offense would be if Windham threw 30 passes a game.
Windham would probly get recruited as a QB, instead he hands off most of the time and we will never know. Just some thoughts
Current coaches will continue to go with what they know in fear of having some down seasons for their school program I guess.
If player is good enough to go play college ball they will find them. People tend to over estimate the talent locally
Coaches in this area have been behind in recruiting…there are some players here
He plays at a d3 I believe
Don't see too many 6'4 fast WR with hands in the HL however.

They went opp Howey every single play except 2, watch the film. Now, thats either avoiding or poor utilazation of a playmaker by CC…didnt matter though, it was just grosse ile
Lots of good players around league. Many very good in our own little area of the world. We will see if any are good enough to move on. McCormick was one of the best athletes around our area last year and best shot was at Northwood. Maybe a few walk ons somewhere, but not a lot of recruiting. Where did Milans QB end up going to college? Does he play football?
Had no interest in college football. Enjoys MSU games now as a fan and student.
Yes that was Bachelor Bob leading the way for view over Jefferson.

You forget one very key element ….Coach Redmen was the head coach in 02-03 season . Since he left airport has not been a factor in the league. Chad Bass may become a good head coach, but it will take time.
Going back in the day and talking about db's in the 02-03 season airport was the stingest defense in the state (and the dc was coach V same as now) and chad bass was a awesome db. Chad bass is extreamly football smart but hes young. I look foward to him coaching at airport for years to cone and think airport is going to get way better because of him
Howey plays like pannone. He was surely avoided.
-bn
Howey plays much like a LB. he is near the LOS often. Violent talent player.
Windham plays corner and has the best ball skills in the league.
If I had to pick the best 2-way player it would be windham in a close battle with many others.
-bn
This bragging is funny. Live in your own world guys, that's fine.
Throwing once in a great while to Vuich is why that's successful. The element of surprise ehhh.
Have not heard anything either way this year about Howey. I doubt a team will avoid a player in our league, no one is that good. Soorry.
Livonia went at SMCC's best player last year in playoff to win the game, its fun to think we have some great athletes in the league, but come on now. No one is talented enough to need to be avoided.
If GI didn't know who Howey was then maybe that is why they were beat 28-0.
GI avoiding Howey. Now that's funny.GI doesn't even know who Howey is. You are completely clueless dad.
I didn't hear Howey's name called one time last Friday. Their QB had CC's 2 interceptions. Howey isn't even close to the best DB on his team let alone someone to be avoided.
Howey is a good player.
Vuich not slow hes faster than quick…I have never seen a team gameplan completely for one player on defense the way GI avoided David Howey everyplay like the kid was Richard Sherman
3 TD catches in 4 games, and SMCC barely throws the ball.
Vuich knows how to run routes, and he has good speed, that is how he is able to get open. You obviously do not have any idea of the entangles that make a great receiver. He is also a tough kid. Combine that with his height and leaping ability (not to mention nice hands) he is a receiver that can not be covered in the Huron League. Sorry guy.
You mean back in the day when Airport was good?
That playoff game was in 87, CC vs Jefferson. That 87 team was the only team in school history to beat Jefferson twice in the same season. Only team to have the opportunity to as well.
Airport use to be so bad, nobody attended their games.
-bn
In 88 Riverview beat Jefferson twice
Back in the day when CC, Jefferson and Airport were larger and closer the same enrollment size, some of the biggest high school football games that have ever been around here took place.
I recall a playoff game with almost 5,000 people in attendance. Now that's a rivalry. Who cares about the record.
travis vuich placed 4th in the states last year in the high jump and i know he is fast.maybee look at hudl tape and you decide?
NAIA is respectable. That would be better than Dannys fine foods.
I think hes probably better at basketball.
I'm told Vuich runs 4.6ish/4.7. I know he has NAIA interest. Probably a TE in college. High jumps 6'7".
Airport and SMCC will be a great game. Big rivalry. A good defensive game plan will do wonders and Airport has just the coaches to do it. Stuff the box, delayed blitzes and your tallest D back on Vuich. Just like that. Got to convince the kids they have the talent to carry out the plan.
Are you talking about the 41-10 all time series? That sounds like a Big Rivalry!
Referencing a lopsided all time series record and trivializing a league school, in response to a quality post, does nothing to abate the general animosity many feel for fans of a particular school. Booo!
Ya no stats lol
Vuich is pretty good but only because he is tallest receiver in league. When he is covered by a tall DB or End he is not quick enough to get open. He does very well for Huron League, probly not a force in college, but you never know.
Yeah, Danny's Fine Foods of Monroe, MI.
Danny's fine foods. Lol, yes no doubt!
-bn
Vuich is the real deal. He could play d3 maybe d2. Is he being recruited by anyone?
St. Mary grade school
SMCC
Where is Vuich from
and the Huron League.
Travis Vuich is the best receiver/tight end in Monroe County.
New offensive coordinator at the helm for the bears…
Vuich is not slow.
Devin Collins is HANDS DOWN the best receiver in the Huron League period! Vuich is tall but slow, and I haven't seen much of Glime but from what I have seen not better than Collins. JM
Who has the best defense in the league? Personally I think Riverview and CC are at the top
Jeffersons offense is terrible.. Can't blame the defense when their out their the whole game
First off let me say that my thoughts and prayers go out to the Flat Rock kids and community. Words can not express the loss of a loved one.
I truly believe that Milan will pull this season together. I have watched these kids and there is no doubt they have the heart, or will. Others can say that they beat Milan, I disagree. In the 2 losses Milan turned the ball over 8 times. In the loss to Huron the score was 7 nothing with 4 minutes to go to half time. In those 4 minutes they lost the game. I believe Milan can right the ship. They just have to leave it all in the field.
Say it with me they LOST

SMCC is top team enrollment wise in D6 is audschools latest predictions. I would be surprised if they went D5 but wow what a division that would be.
-bn
Robinson is out for the season. Torn ACL
Just saw the kid from SMCC last weekend. Also saw the kid from Huron three weeks ago. I take the kid from SMCC. Size does matter!(that's what she said)
Picks this week will be tough. 3 VERY tough games to pick this week. Chris gave away who he thought would win CC vs airport but the other games are up for grabs.
I know who I think will win, let's see if Chris agrees.
-bn
4 good games in my opinion. Best week of the season
-bn
Um…. Oh Yeah…. GO BUCS!!!
The refs on the island did their very best to keep the game as close as they could
Vuich is by far the best receiver in the league
Airport has a tough task on Friday no doubt. The Dline has been a strength this season and will have to play a good game to give Airport a chance. EM
Can't wait til airport tries to run Meiring up the middle 40 times.
Did Robinson tear his acl
I would take Vuich because of his size and athleticism over Collins. Glime is a good player too. Not sure how fast he is.
Liparato and Wilkens from Jefferson are 2 great receivers and have speed just don't have the chance to prove it
As his dad you should think that.

I believe you haven't seen Nolan Glime play then. He's on a team that very rarely throws the ball, but better believe if his number is called its a sure catch!
I believe devin is hands down the best receiver in the league
