  1. Even if Milan beats Melvindale and the next team, they will lose 50-0 to DeWitt. My whole family lives there, i know the team. DeWitt would dominate Wyandotte Roosevelt with ease.

    1. Well if you know the team that settles it..unless of course someone with more knowledge comes along claiming to have family in Milan and knows the team and says your wrong..lmao

  2. No dictionary nor grammar police necessary. 9:24 is absolutely correct.

They are just saying all Melvindale players are from Milan just like all Milan players are from Ypsi.

    Sounds legit. 🙂

  3. Why would Milan and Melvindale folks go at it? The game is going to be close. Whoever wins wont win by more than 7. No dominating victory. Both teams are quality but not superb. I cant see either advancing past this game. St. Clair and DeWitt await. Sit back and enjoy the moment. It goes by quickly.

  4. Lol good one 8:43. Thats where your wrong 8:00, my team is very much still in the playoffs. They will be the team lining up from Milan Friday night. I'm glad my comments makes your fanbase stronger, that means it will be easier on you when you guys lose. Don't forget your crying towels Milan fans.

    1. Here we go again. Another person who has no idea of the background of the players on the team. I assume you think Kanitz and Hoover and friese are all from ypsi? Or maybe hall and scully are from ypsi? You are an absolute crazy individual.

    1. Your upset, we get it. Your team didn't make the okay offs, it's ik to bash and trash a team that has actually done something. It's ok to be a hater. Please, please, please keep talking cause we love it! It just makes us stronger. That's something you'll never understand. Hope to see you Friday! And good luck to you and your team, who ever it is!

  5. Wow 10:58 poster you have convinced me. Milan has no weaknesses. Not only will they beat Melvindale, but they will cruise past Dewitt. And what chance does GR Christian or anyone else have at Ford Field vs the mighty Big Reds? Milan 14-0!!!!

  6. I would say Clinton and Grass Lake are not quite on par with AAGR but it is close. AAGR played in a MUCH tougher league. ND Prep and Loyola would wax GL and Clinton.

  7. When your defense is the strength of your team and your special teams are the weak link, maybe pooch kicking it was a conscious coaching decision. Since I haven't seen season stats from Thurston nor any game film I can't say this for certain, but based on their team speed perhaps the return game was a strength for them. Thurston's return game certainly looked good on that one pooch kick along the sidelines that got returned all the way into the red zone. That should never happen and should be corrected before employing that tactic again–either with coaching or a personnel change.

    Speaking of personnel changes…

As for the Milan parent–err, fan–who commented earlier on the position changes taking place, here's my take:

This is the postseason, and if the Milan coaches believe a change in personnel makes the team better, I have faith in their judgement. Players have had months to prove themselves to the coaches, and players continue to have practices where they can make their case for playing time to the coaches on a daily basis.

If your kid lost his starting spot in Week 10 of the season, that stinks for your kid. It really does. But there are only 28 kids on Milan's varsity team. It's likely that even if they don't start, they could be part of a position rotation or on a special teams unit. It's the playoffs, and every play is huge. Encourage the kid to make the most of what time he has on the field for the team. Better yet, encourage him to keep busting his butt in practice to lead by example and get the whole team ready for their biggest game of the season. It's already been a great season, but it's the little contributions during the week and on Fridays that can help make it historic.

  8. AAGR is good. Only losses were to Detroit Loyola twice. Loyola is 10-0 SMCC will have to play their best to get by this team. No Manchesters, Grass Lakes or Clintons this year.

    Battle of initials??

    AAGR 40 SMCC 28

  9. This years Milan team is much better.Able to move the ball both with running and passing all 3wr are real good both running back good QB best in the Huron League good line on both sides of the ball.Defense does not give up as many big plays like last year.So if the coaching Gets back to calling plays like what got them there and making good decisions Like letting your kicker kicking the ball deep and Not giving the other team a short field .Milan should win this game against Melvindale

  10. bn, I meant if they lose the game, they'll still have had a great season.

In that case melvindale has nothing to lose either.

  11. You ran that prediction on the wrong part of cal preps. The official playoff prediction based on all of the most recent data won't be until later on in the week. Just giving you a little heads up.

  12. I think SMCC. Has a great chance to play at Ford field. Again, like Milan, if they do what has got them there they will be fine. Run the football and don't give up any big plays.

  13. Milan plays together as a team. Kanitz is the face of the offense. He is the anchor of the team no doubt. But there are 10 other kids that also carry a load for that team. Lindeman has stepped up in the back field, Freeze has stepped up on the line, Miller and Smith has stepped up at wide out. The whole defense has stepped up all year! Milan is 10 and 0 because the team is more important than any individual on the team. Coaches at Milan preach that from day one. The Big Reds will come out and do what they have done all year and that's play as a team.

    1. I agree with you 100%, it isn't about one player it's about the TEAM! If one player can do it all than the rest should just sit down. This team relies on each other out there on the field. If you ask me the offensive line deserves more credit than any individual, the freshman can't run without them, kanitz can't make a good pass without the line giving him time. When the TEAM plays as a team then they are unstoppable.

    2. And I forgot our defense out there for Milan has kept us in the games! Our defense no doubt is one of the best I believe. We are a good all around football TEAM!! Good chemistry between all the players and it shows on the field!!

    3. Fact of the matter is Milan had a better TEAM last year and they got whipped in the 2nd round at home. Samething will happen this year.

  14. While Milan-Melvindale is getting alot of attention. It should be noted SMCC-AAGR is a really good matchup as well. EM

  15. Players views are the most interesting.

If it is the short pass game that is the bread and butter for Melvindale, then Milan will be ok.

They tend to make teams go on long drives to score and most just don't have the discipline to do that.

I watched more highlights of the last game. Good tackling to keep short passes from breaking into long runs will serve Milan well.

Calpreps has it 21-14. Knowing Milan's record in big games, that sounds about right. Or, 28-21 or 14-7.

  16. I play for the view and i think Melvindale will keep it close for a little bit. But Milan will pull away at the end. I pick Milan 28 Melvindale 14

  17. The freshman better bring his A game. He has had a tough time against good teams with staying healthy and avoiding turnovers!

    1. He has had 2 fumbles all season. 1 against Ypsi and 1 this week. He has carried the ball over 100 times and fumbled twice. I would say that's pretty good. And Redford did a good job shutting the run down, hats off to them. The Freshman will be just fine, and so will the rest of the TEAM.

    2. I said staying healthy and turnovers. He had fumbles. And was hurt against good teams. I didn't say he had a fumbling problem.

    3. He is healthy. He had a minor concussion against GI. They took him out against SMCC, not by an injury. And he stretched his groin a bit against Lincoln. And, if he can't go we have another running back that can do the job. It's not about one kid, it's about the team. The freshman doesn't run for 1100 yards if our line is weak. The QB doesn't complete his passes if he has no protection or his receivers can't make the play. You can say what you want about any individual on this team, but you can't say that the team is weak. Everyone gets an injury, or fumbles, not every team goes undefeated back to back. This kid is apart of a team. A GREAT TEAM !!!!

    4. I was making a challenge to a player. You turn it into a whole different thing. You Milan folk always think someone is out to get you guys. I never said anything bad about the TEAM!

  18. I think Milan plays well as an underdog. They should come out and play with reckless abandon… they have nothing to lose! Just play your hardest each play; worry about the score at the end of the game.

  19. I have seen them both and like Milan defense and discipline in this game, Melvindale QB is not very accurate throwing deep and does not run well but is very good in the short passing game as are his receivers. Teams are very similar, should be a good game.

  20. Hey 11:33 I never said Milan would back down. But Melvindale will make them quit. Melvindale is better in all phases. Better QB better defense better coaching.

    1. Wrong. And you will find out Friday night. Your team might be the best team we faced this year. Looking at film from your last game, it looks like your no better than Thurston. You won't make them quit, they will be the most physical team Melvindale has played yet. See ya Friday night, in Milan.

  21. If it is the best QB/WR combo Milan has seen, and by the stats it seems that way, and the QB can scramble, that can give Milan issues.

That being said, they are stoppable as it was 14-10 at half in the RV game…against the View's "formidable" D.

Milan's strength is their D. They'll be fine.

The question is can their O hit on big plays that have gotten them past other tough opponents. Because the grind it out O by itself probably won't.

Milan's only obvious weakness seems to be special teams.

With a home game, a strong running game, and a tough D, my money will be on Milan.

Those things tend to make a difference in playoff games.

  22. The least impressive thing about Melvindale's victory over Riverview is that they only put up 34 points on the View's defense.

That puts them behind the victories by: Huron 37 points; Milan 41 points; GI 42 points and SMCC 56 points.

  23. Milan's secondary isnt bad, they will have to be at their best vs Melvindale. This will be the best defense Milan has seen, after giving up 10 early points to Riverview they pretty much shut them down the rest of the night. With all that said it is hard to count out Milan, especially at home. Kanitz and company won't back down. I expect this one to go down to the wire. EM

  24. Melvindale looked pretty dominant from the 2nd quarter on. Coaches made some front adjustments. Best throwing QB they have seen all year. That includes Smith from Lincoln. Two very good receivers. Defensively, active D line, very good LB's and DB's can cover. Well coached too!

  25. 1st i am a milan fan.But that was a very bad coaching game. How many times do you put some one back to return a punt and the player is told Fire and lets the ball go like his coach told him to.And why like last year do you change players position when those players got the TEAM to the playoffs.Yelling at the players when they have a bad play is not the answer,if you want the best for the team give positive feedback and stay with what got you there. making player changes and game plans changes is a bad thing to do. its bad for MORALE and is not what got this TEAM to where they are at.

    1. Right lets remember this is just a game. We all want to win but hs football is a small tiny part of a kids life. They are gona make mistakes every team on every level makes mistakes even coaches lol

  26. Chris, the most talented team Milan will play this year? Individually or in team-play? Where are their strengths?

They did not look dominant in the View game.

If they are the best so far, then Milan will have to open up its playbook…when they do, good things happen.

  27. They are all good from here on out. Predictions are hard to come by. It's all about Friday night performances.

Will Melvindale receivers get behind Milan's DB's? Will Kanitz break free or throw a long TD pass?

Will there be special teams mistakes?

Defenses will keep the game score low.

    14-13 Milan.

    1. Milan pass defense has been good to proficient under their HC. Melvindale won't beat them with the pass. If they can play in every phase and aspects of the game better than Milan then maybe they'll win.

  28. Watched the highlights from the Melvindale / View game.

Not overly impressed with Melvindale. Certainly no train, maybe a wagon.

What they do that will challenge Milan is pass the ball.

People said Riverview would beat Milan; then it was SMCC. There were doubters when we played SEC champion Lincoln, and even Thurston.

Milan just keeps rolling along, even with numerous turnovers and mistakes.

    Watched Milan play last night.

In some moments they shined. Big scores on long passes. D did another great job.

In the turn-over department they did not impress.

These teams will test each other.

If Milan throws the ball well it will open up their run. If not, they'll be punting more often, and they will have to hope their D can hold the opponent to less than their normal 13 ppg.

If Milan plays mistake free they will be well-positioned to win the game.

Their skill players will have to play their best game of the year.

  29. One thing is for sure; Riverview absolutely positively has to improve their defense for next season or they aren't going anywhere. That offense was great to watch but it only took them so far. Stergalas has brought the program back to respectability out of the "dark ages" of the previous coaching staff , but there is still some work. All in all it was a good season. Go Bucs! See you next year.

  30. I know im looking ahead a little but the D5 favorite Jackson Lumen Christi got beat last night. That could make for an easier road for SMCC. EM

  31. Chris, thank you for putting things in perspective. We live in our safe little communities and sometimes forget that these boys that come out to us do not have the best circumstances at home. I feel for the coach. They definitely do not get paid enough to deal with all the extras the come with the job. They do it gladly though for the love of the game and their players. What a great reward to make a difference in a kids life who otherwise might not have a chance. You can't put a price on that.

  32. That coach has done an awful lot over there at Rouge. There is more to coaching than just game management over there. I know it seems like simple little things. He has done a lot more as a coach than just on the field. He turned the program around, kids aren't leaving to go to other schools, kids are coming to Rouge from other districts, he is most likely the father figure for more than half of the team and they're in the playoffs.

It's a different world toward the city. Kids are kids but circumstances are completely different from the "Leave it to Beaver" land that I live in. He probably spent half the night driving kids home who didn't have a ride. Many of the kids that go to Rouge are the same that go to my school. We had a kid show up late to school yesterday bleeding, he was attacked at the bus stop in the city by a guy with a knife. He simply ran until he got to school all the way in Dearborn (he came to school). We took him to the hospital because when we called mom she said she didn't have time.

Sorry, I get on my soap box sometimes but there is more to coaching sports in the city than game management or mismanagement. The part that is tough for many of those kids is that now that the season is over for them, much of their structure goes away. That is what keeps kids motivated, focused and goal driven.

If Corey Parker leaves 50 or 60 kids will leave to go elsewhere (enrollment at Rouge is up 150 in the HS since he got there). It is no a coincidence. A guy like him should be paid $60k a year to coach football (He probably makes $3k). It's worth $500,000 a year in state aid for the district most likely more with 31A and Title I money.

    1. These Milan boys won't back down! And it does not take much to derail a train ! You best bring your "A" game, cause your coming to Milan, ANC the "train" might not be the ride your hoping for !

  33. I hate saying this because I respect coaches who sacrifice time from their families to lead young men but River Rouge was not well coached. They wasted timeouts, had trouble getting the plays in. They were also sloppy, I lost count of how many false starts they had. They also gave up two onside kicks.

I thought the River Rouge defense played fantastic given some of the circumstances (poor offensive possessions/the onside kick debacles etc.)

Rouge was resilient down 22-0 to get back in the game.

I think SMCC might be vulnerable to the pass, some teams down the road might want to give the pass a thought when facing SMCC.

Overall good win for SMCC, they continue to win playoffs games, good for them. I think they will face AA Richard although it would be cool to see a Monroe county district final with Ida.

  34. All the teams look like they competed… obviously the ones that won did. Riverview hung in there. It doesn't get any easier for SMCC and Milan.
