  1. Boy SMCC just cant do anything right to make some of you happy on here. They went over after they game and shook hands with Mitroka because they did feel bad for him. Film was watched several times and I can promise you that no one was over him yelling when his injury happened. Stop taking cheap shots at this team. You are starting to make some of fans because of all the talk.:)

  2. To the one who posted that genius math, they obviously don't understand the time value of money. You can save up way more than $32,000 for college assuming you can put away $8,000 per year into a diverse portfolio. I warn you, however, to account for all factors when choosing/not choosing a private school. Some put the value of a Catholic education high, others do not. Some put the value of a top quality education high, others do not. Finally, whether I agree with it or not, some people may put a higher value on having a coach like Coach Giarmo (I don't know anyone who has said a bad word about him). I know I did.

On to what the blog is originally aimed for – I hope Mitroka gets better, he is quite the talent. I see that Milan/SMCC game being a good one, I think it will be a defensive battle.

P.S. Let us not forgot the majority of you pay for the public school systems through taxes.

  3. As a retired college admissions counselor I can tell you that some of these posters are dead wrong. All accredited HS's get a rating by the colleges. Yes a handful of private schools are very highly rated. But most of the top schools are public institutions. Of the top 10 schools in Michigan, for college admissions purposes, only two are private. Of the Huron League schools, only Grosse Ile ranks in the top 1% and they are well below the top 5.

Most HS total up all offers, not all scholarships used. One national merit scholar usually garners over 1 million in offers. SMCC lists ACT Median as 23.1 but does not post it's average. You cannot compare a median to a mean.

I realize this is not football related but geez. Most kids go to private schools because of poor local schools, sports, or for religious reasons. Most don't choose SMCC for its academics nor do they discard it because of its academics. It is for sports or religion.

  4. Totally false watched the film last night. They did not stand over him. Don't understand why you want to stir things up by telling an outright LIE. I guess these were the same players that went over to the GI bench and shook his hand after the game. JA

  5. Mr SMCC math. Here is some new math for you.
    $55,000 in scholarships
    $32,000 to go to SMCC
$23,000 left to put to college

$0000 to go to public school
    $32,000 to put towards college
    plus any scholarships.

    Whos the winner???

  6. I hope Mitroka has a speedy recovery. After watching the game film you can see how hard he went down. Its hard to watch a good athlete get an injury like that. SMCC was sympathetic with the whole GI team as this happened to them the week before with Antonelli. Both were huge hits for both teams. Hang in there boys and you both will be missed.

  7. the freshman from gi was supposed to be our jv starting quarterback they should use him. hes tall, fast and can throw Hes a beast

  8. Poster Sept 23 5:44pm

That's awfully bold talk considering you have the two toughest games of the season the next two weeks, and yess I mean GI. Even with Mitroka not playing, they are a force to recon with, all skilled positions are shifty, hard to tackle. and no I don't/haven't attended GI

  9. If Mitroka is out for seaon, I don't see GI making it to the playoffs, with possible wins coming from Airport and Jefferson, then losing to View, Milan, and Hazel Park. That puts them at 5-4.. I don't know if Hazel P is any good though. Either way, I hope Mitroka is all healthy!

  10. Riverview does have 40% school of choice but their football team and most of their sports are made up of mostly Riverview kids. Students go to riverview because it is a great public school for education not for sports. They don't have the facilities to attract athletes.

  11. The only numbers that matter are:

    Milan 4–0 and SMCC 4–0

    Both will soon be 5–0.

H LC Game will be played and Milan's home field a week from Friday night.

  12. man all of you "grown men" are jokes. I am a cc grad who went to watch that game friday and i just came on here to see if i could get an update on the GI QB's knee. instead I find all of this crap, people taking shots at this team, at that team, people bickering like little children. Grow up. 80+ comments of BS. Anyone know how that kid's knee is?

  13. Points scores this season:
    SMCC 162-15
    View 154-63
    Milan 121-53
    GI 113-45
    AP 94-74
    Jeff 45-172
    Huron 37-82
    FR 33-190

Research before posting, it helps to not make you look foolish.

If you do not want to talk about GI or SMCC, bring somthing else up. It is simple. Chris does not control what people are talking about.

To stop view. Yes a 6-2 may work, but you would have to have some fast DE's to contain them.

40% of the population in Riverview schools are school of choice kids. I would say that most of the SMCC kids have gone to Catholic schools from grade school. So, they have some kids from out of town? What about Riverview? I think that most of the kids come from Lincoln Park. Would LP have the losing streak that they have if School of choice was not there?

    Craig

    1. For most high schools would use a 5-3 with different cover schemes (zone and man to man) and blitz packages. If needed use a fast and athletic linebacker for spy responsibilities for mobile quarterback. 6-2 would work just like that extra linebacker in the 5-3 for coverage and blitzing

  14. This Blogs name should change from "HuronLeagueBlogspot" to CC and GI Blog spot. This is ridiculous, Talk about some else for a change. Dang.

  15. you really think huron will beat riverview? riverview is averaging the best offensive ppg in the league.. and their defense has improved greatly

  16. Hell why not go to Smcc chances are you are going to win a huron league championship and compete for a state championship in any sport. I mean that is every players dream.

  17. SMCC's #28 came from GI. A tough choice at first I'm sure, but it seems to have paid off in a big way. He was awesome on Friday! It appears as though there are some hard feelings about the move, but let's face it, it was 2 years ago, and school isn't all about football. If they have a good athletic program, good scholastics, and colleges do give a first look at private schools (like it or not), then all this recruiting nonsense means nothing. People with kids usually look at the quality of the schools before they move to a new community, this is no different.

  18. How can Huron's fans say that Milan was unsportsmanlike when they had a player ejected? Milan has no history under Coach Hoskins of unsportsmanlike conduct.

  19. So tell me poster(s) What does a Scott McCormack recruitment offer look like?? Stop the silliness. But…he would have got a better education and higher SAT score.

  20. As a current player here are my thoughts. I love having SMCC in the Huron league. It's a tough challenge I can admit but if you can beat them it just shows that you are the top dog. This whole recruit this is just stupid. It's all in preparation. If you prepare well enough you will see results. Just ask that Milan team from last year that cruised to a league title from being 1-8. 25 guys on that Milan team and they are 4-0. SMCC has the size of a JV team and are 4-0. Sorry but that is all hard work and preparation nothing more.

  21. Direct from the SMCC website….."100% of SMCC Graduates are accepted into college" "The 106 graduates of the class of 2012 received $5.8 million dollars in college scholarship offers" (according to my math thats almost $55,000 per student) So can the "woe is us at SMCC" There are attractive reasons to send a kid there.

  22. Luckily McCormicks family stuck by their roots and kept their boy at Airport. SMCC recruited him heavily but he did not go.

Bahahaha, you cannot be serious. Where do people come up with this stuff?

Hey come to our school, we have no field of our own. You have to drive to the practice field, we have no track, no tennis courts, no pool, no baseball field, our school is run down and out dated, we have half the facilities the public schools have. So hey, what do you say? Ya sounds GREAT!! Where do I sign!!!

  23. Huron has a good team, it's the coaching that hurts this team. They have some very good players on and off the bench. They get pass Riverview, they have a shot at playoffs with a 6-3 record.

  24. If I am not mistaken this blog is about football and its ok if SMCC is talked about on here just like all the other schools. They have been blasted and run down more then praised then any other team because they are hated for thier good record. I support another team in the league but do admit going to the play off games and Ford Field to watch SMCC. Lets face it they keep working hard and keep coming out on top so get over it and move on. The more you complain about them the harder they work.

  25. Are you kidding me about SMCC? This blog is about football not how much the school costs to attend. Only a handful of the school plays sports. The school is more known for academic success and will always strive for that over athletics. Its a parents choice where there kids attend school and if they want to pay for an education let them. Why do you care.

  26. Luckily McCormicks family stuck by their roots and kept their boy at Airport. SMCC recruited him heavily but he did not go.

CC will never leave this league, competition too much every where else. Luckily all the playoff draws send their team west or all their seasons would be short.
Mason, Whiteford, Grass Lake, Manchester. If any one was wondering, feelings about them out west are same as here. I work out that way. Manchester and Grass Lake can't stand them. Lumen Christi wants to play them though.

    1. Lumen will get their chance this year. I for one am excited for the match up. Bad news for manchester, grass lake and the other programs you mentioned because now there is another powrrhouse in D6 and they couldn't before. So sad!!!

  27. The bottom line is SMCC needs to quit getting on here and talking about how good they are. When they do that the rest of us get on here and knock them down or defend our own schools.
SMCC is unique to all schools in the area, some good, some bad. Its not real fair that kids from all over the area go there, but we have to deal with that.
I am tired of all the CC talk, maybe they will settle down when Milan kicks their but.
GO BIG REDS! told you GI/SMCC game was for 2nd place remember.

By the way CC will always have recruits on their team. They must continue to have success or enrollment will dwindle. What i mean by recruits(not super stars from another program) but kids that are good athletes but were probly going to Monroe, Jefferson, or Airport. CC will work with them to attend there(financially) and the public school will lose them. If you get 10 or 15 of these kids, you will be good and not have a need for a superstar.

Girls programs dwindling quickly, other than volleyball. If no constant success, people wont pay $8000 to go there. They have a high motivation to keep the school going.

  28. It was clear by the first TD that GI was in trouble. CC consistantly drove up the middle and the line had a hard time stopping them. CC was the better team last night. When you only have 19 players, and you put all your eggs in one basket, injuries of your key players will result in a loss. McCarty should be running the ball, not passing it, but what are you going to do? The coaches are doing the best they can with who they have right now. Next year will be an even bigger challenge. Besides Mitroka, will they have someone with an arm? And the year after when he's graduated? Time to start shuffling and get out of the comfort zone to see what others are capable of playing. I don't envy those coaches.

  29. The comments about cc crack me up. Sounds like a bunch of cry babies. The guy making comment about them joining the Catholic league must one of those jeleous lost souls. You say watching Airport has been the best fir you. That just shows ignorance. What have they ever won? Sounds like a cowtown boy who cries when a school a third of their size cones in and beats them. Airport has always been the poorest sports ( fans) . Good luck next week with those recruiting Catholics. Scott McCormic may be the best athlete in the region but he cannot beat those cheating Catholics by himself. I cant wait to hear you cry next week.

  30. I cant believe all the hateful comments I read on here about Smcc year after year. Sorry they are in the Huron league GET OVER IT! As a community we should be cheering on all off our teams because its the kids and the coaches that do all the hard work and entertain us every Friday night. SMCC works hard just like everyone else. And lets not forget that the 2011-2012 SMCC team lost so many games they didn't even make it to the playoffs. And Im sure all of you who complain about them jump on the bandwagon when they make it to the playoffs. Grow up and just enjoy Friday night Football who ever is out there working hard.

  31. You want me to censor opinions? As long as they don't call out the kids I usually let it go.

SMCC doesn't have any recruits on their team. Most are household names that have been at that school for decades. I get that but many people around the league remember when there was an appearance that CC did recruit players. It wasn't just made up stuff. I think it is a silly non-issue these days and not worth discussion but I cannot censor that stuff. It is what it is.

  32. I am praying that both of those Huron boys recover quickly and their injuries weren't too serious. Seems like it was a rough night across the league.

  33. Why does everyone on here take shots at CC? You cant say its the fans… I see all teams represented on here by plenty of bozos.

I mean, they DO NOT have the best talent this year in the league. Im not sure who they recruited on this team. I went to the Huron/CC game and when you watched those teams get off the bus, you would swear that Huron would win by 40. So again if they recruit then who the heck are they recruiting.. small lineman?

I just don't get why people are always taking shots on here. Makes the blog less fun and diminishes the kids hard work. I also wish the blog owner would sensor it especially if known to be unfounded.

    just my 2 cents, thanks

  34. Huron is definitely going to win the Huron league in my opinion. Create job Huron you are a top team in the league oh and congratulations on finally having a team almost over 500 looking real good over there. Keep up the good work. Best team in 20 years?

  35. Watched the game on film… looks like Mitroka will be lost for the year.

He planted his left foot to make a cut, the knee buckled and he went down.

It looked bad but lets hope for the best. He is quite a talent.

  36. Ok boys enough jabbing. Who went to the Airport game ? seemed like they put up a bunch of points. Was it all Scott McCormick ?

    1. Airport recovered a fumble in the endzone for a TD. Bernard had a long TD run as did Mcgrath. Airport's defense kept putting the offense in good spots. It was 35-0 early 3rd when the starters got pulled. Now it's just a question of playing good vs the top tier teams. EM

  37. What a sham the Huron League turned into- same teams always winning; another boring season of SMCC on to world domination. I'll tip my hat to them when/ if they get out of the Huron League and into a genuine catholic high school league and win championships and make the playoffs. At least Huron has improved its program and Riverview 's winning again. Apart from Gene Gennoe, Jefferson needs to fire the whole coaching staff to really end the Cisco era & start afresh. Airport , for me, has been the most enjoyable team to watch and Flat Rock just needs more depth. Good for Milan on being the Cinderella team from 1-8 two years ago.

  38. Also note, no excuse was made for Hurons loss… Simply stated what they should've used to win, which ran them up field for their first score.. I make no excuses for my Alma Mater; you must be new here.

    KC

  39. Solid win by Milan tonight. Huron's D played well, especially in containing Lindeman, and any game in the elements means both teams have to overcome that X-factor.

Huron's offense didn't make many mistakes early on, but while they have some solid players they seem to lack those outstanding players that opposing defenses really have to game plan for. I'm not trying to take a shot by saying that, but the results on the field speak for themselves. Without those big play players, the offense has to sting together long drives without stalling. That's tough to do consistently.

I didn't like Kanitz barking at an opposing receiver while on defense (I *think* this is what KC was mentioning). Overall, he's a good kid. Mentally and emotionally he should be above turning a good play for his team into a bad one. He got flagged for that act and deserved it.

Huron looked good on their scoring drive, no doubt. By taking to the air starting in the 4th, Huron took what the defense gave them and marched right down the field. The touchdown catch was an especially nice play by the receiver. That said, the next two drives ended with interceptions–the first on a tipped ball and the second on a pass down the sideline where the defender got inside position on the receiver before making the pick.

Passing in the rain is a risk-reward proposition. Tonight, the reward was that nice TD drive while the risk was two drives that ended in picks to ice the game.

Now for KC, here's the "taking shots" portion of my post:

Don't want or need respect after four games. Milan just needs to keep winning and the respect will come.

Both teams had personal fouls called on them, but only one team had a player thrown out (…and they were not a Big Red). KC neglected to mention that in their post.

On a more serious note, I do hope that young Mr. Taylor of Huron is not seriously injured. Same goes for Max Gilliam and Andrew Mitroka of Grosse Ile. Likewise, I appreciated those who showed their concern when Robert Kanitz was injured earlier in the season.

All our boys lay it on the line every week, and I hope to hear some good news regarding these three.

  40. My friend, you need to read a bit closer……… Not just bits and pieces. Never said nothing about injured players or ignorance, I simply asked about our OWN injured player.. Secondly, I saw quite a few penalties come from both teams, but unsportsmanlike conduct from Milan after he tackled a Huron player, and chanted over them in the 3rd quarter…. Like I said anon, re-read, double read, and read a 3rd time before you post.. I was at the game, big fella in a gray shirt, red shorts, and red bandana… should've came and said hi on the Huron side…

    KC

  41. Should have been a GI win ? What game were you watching. Even if #6 played the entire game SMCC still would have won. They were the better team. The SMCC defense was fast. Both teams played hard and I did not see much dirty play by either team. The SMCC players showed some real class when they all ran over to the other bench after the game to hug #6. Just another reason to love SMCC. Good ball and plenty of class. While watching this game I realized that one of the reasons SMCC has been doing well in the playoffs is that they go against some very tough teams in the league. This gets them ready and toughened for the playoffs. I don't think the league race is over. Milan and Riverview I think will be tough for SMCC. I hope #6 is Ok and the boy from Huron.

  42. Lets not forget Smcc had 2 injuries last week and still managed to get the job done. So lets not make excuses for GI we just got out played tonight. I will say that SMCC #44 was a beast tonight. Congrats to both teams on a good game of football.

  43. yeah CC ran over GIs backup DT. oline couldnt get a push! it was 15-8 mid 4th though and GI lost the ball on their own 25. shouldve been a GI win but everything bad happened that couldve…

    1. Um no, it was 22-8 at the end of 3. But if you must make it seem closer then it was….. Where was the fantastic GI defense I heard so much about for the last week? If it wasn't for a holding penalty that cancelled out a first down GI wouldn't have stopped them at all, Cc only had the ball 6 times, not including taking a knee at the end of each half, and scored on 4 times.

  44. Enough of the Gilliam talk. He's hurt and not playing. That's it! Some of those GI kids busted there butts tonight. No adjustments and this was clearly not the best night for the GI coaches.

  45. Was great to see Huron find the endzone tonight! Not going to lie, when Huron got back possession, 5-6 plays passing and they were in the endzone. Beginning to wonder why Huron doesn't use the pass rush more often. I know passing tonight wasnt a swell option with rain, but man Huron has a great bunch of receivers.

Any word on Brandon Taylor of Huron? Stretcher and Ambulance before half.. looked pretty serious.

Might I also say the first Milan fan to say "show some respect now" should get smacked.. I don't think chanting over someone you just tackled is very "respect" worthy.. hence the unsportsmanlike conduct flag.. Least the worse is out of the way for Huron, they've had a tough opening schedule. I see W's the rest of the season, unless Riverview does something.

    KC

    1. Hey KC were you at the same game I was at..1st off there was NO chanting on either side when a player got hurt period in fact both teams went down on one knee and all was silent till he walked off the field. 2nd if you research Huron had more flags than Milan. Huron had a boy ejected from the game for throwing punches and another warned by refs for his trash talk. There were many of us concerned about the injured player. If possible think before you type, you sound like a bitter loser grasping at excuses instead of just being a good sport and accepting the loss, try to set a better example for these boys.

  46. I like the way Smcc showed what class
    is all about,
After the game the team and coaches went
over and gave Mitroka a hug and a hand shake!! Nothing but pure class Smcc way to go!!

  47. "Mitroka receiving his injury is big time for cc, and is obviously a big time loss for gi.. if he's out for the game, cc will run the score up to show everyone they're the team to beat"

give it a rest guy.. always taking shots.

    -bn

  48. Mitroka receiving his injury is big time for cc, and is obviously a big time loss for gi.. if he's out for the game, cc will run the score up to show everyone they're the team to beat.
