Tecumseh 31 Jefferson 21: Tough opener for new coach Bruce Pickens.
Airport 24 Adrian 21: Jets wins another squeaker over the Maples.
Milan 28 Ypsilanti 20: Milan starts off 2013 with a solid win.
Riverview 34 Crestwood 21: The Pirates kick off the season with a win over the Chargers.
Riverview Gabriel Richard 27 Flat Rock 21: Long season starts with a loss for the Rams.
Grosse Ile 41 Annapolis 12: This game gets ugly early.
SMCC 49 Detroit PEC 6: Why?
Huron 34 Summit Academy 18: Might as well be a home game for the visiting Chiefs.
I agree that there is some merit to what JV did. GI JV year before last went 10-0 with their current varsity team. Coach Raupp called offense, coach Mitroka the defense. Only team they struggled with was Huron. I am guessing this year will be a repeat.

I listed SMCC's seniors in players to watch. I didn't mention any juniors. I only threw out sophomore Carrabino's name because let's face it, he is going to be a stud. Milan, Riverview and Huron have the best senior classes in the league. The juniors at SMCC and GI make them title contenders. Once again, just one man's humble opinion.
OK I can agree with you Chris a little that the current juniors on SMCC are decent but lets not say they are the saving graces of the current varsity team.. The senior class is a great bunch of athletes and there wins do not come just from the junior group. That group was moved up as freshman not to save the jv team because they sucked it was a coaching issue and an injury issue and over crowding freshman team. There was only 2 kids that actually saw decent playing time that year.
And the current group of seniors at SMCC with the exception of 2 were either starters last year or saw significant playing time. And I do believe they lost the game to go to Ford Field. So lets not say they are going to be so good this year all because of the junior class. Give the seniors on that team there credit to. The main point is they are a good team because they work together as a team and are a great group of athletes. Im sure the same could be said for all the teams.
I think what happens on JV more times than naught reflects what happens on varsity and to a lesser extent on freshman teams too.
This Junior class at SMCC killed it on Freshman and saved a struggling JV team that year when they moved a bunch of them up. The hype on SMCC is deserved. Many of the Juniors played up on varsity last season and they had a solid team.
I did agree with the theory that what happens at the lower levels never reflects what will happen at the Varsity.
So just curious, all this hype about CC was based on what they did as JV and Freshman. Who really knows what they will do this year. There line is not that big and they do not have many seniors.
I guess we will see in the next few weeks. I could go on and on. I like Milan and GI again, because of the spread offense.
If the last 2 years are an indication, Airport-Adrian will be another nail biter. I think Airport pulls away in the 2nd half and wins by 10-14 points. I dont expect SMCC, GI, Milan, Huron or Milan to have any problems in week 1. Jefferson will have a tough time vs Tecumseh. Flat Rock's best chance to get a win this year might be this week. I'll take the Rams by 7. EM
per the poll, both Airport and Huron currently stand at 18-1. If I were a betting man, I would take those odds all day long.

In regards to Jefferson… its as simple as Ramano vs the new guy…. EDGE: Ramano in a big way.
As far as the "why" next to CC.. maybe the question should be "who else"? They did line up a very good wk 9 opponent, maybe thats "why".

While I agree Jefferson will be better off this year with Pickens at the helm; freshman football stats and records NEVER means given success at the varsity level. If the class was so talented, don't you think more would have contributed on varsity last year considering the numbers on varsity were so low ?
Im not so sure on this Jefferson pick. Theres a heck of a lot of good kids over there. This group went 8-1 as freshmen, not so good last year because of many injuries, between that and a new highly motivated coach, Jefferson will beat Tecumseh and a lot of other teams this year. Maybe not win the league, but they will be near it. Jefferson 31, Tecumseh 20.
