Milan's Trace Lindeman proved his worth on varsity as a freshman and ran up the score pretty early
Depth may be a problem for GI. But as long as Mitroka plays QB, they got a shot to win the league. EM
Gi has at least 6 guys going both ways that I know of- volmerhausen, mccarty, camilleri, gilliam, stewart, and moskall. Depth really is a problem without mcaughey and only 23 varsity guys
I and a few of my HL peeps saw as much as we could and what we gathered was CC is VERY solid but not very deep and seemed to already have injury issues. After our discussions we decided sense GI plays there they were our favorites eventhough GI is VERY solid and very fast, they lost a small back but he seemed to be the main one so this could be an issue? He was very slippery. But oh ya….. Their QB is still a freaking monster. They were missing one of their top players in street clothes but they still seemed to own all they played fairly easily. Jefferson was actually FUN to see again but not that terribly impressive. A bit of NOT BORING Jefferson ball. Huron looked good and like I said earlier the team to surprise the league…. (PS…. they were all over the place talking smack at the GI scrimmage including their coach in the end zone with cameras! There was AT LEAST 20 of them there) Scotty Mac is a monster but the team did not really impress me so who knows. FR and View were what I expected one looked young and unexperienced and the other fast as hell but not very good all around. Guess which is which…? I got nothing on Milan. Tried but no takers to take the trip.
I think its pretty bad when you're talking about the boys so called "smack" talk then turn around and do the same thing on here. If your an adult lets act like one.
I have also heard that SMCC has a handful of starters that have had some injuries that could be recurring through out the season. If these few don't stay healthy it will hurt the team. A few with injured backs and one with an injured hand, one with a injured knee.
Thank you, that is what I was talking about.
Okay, you want real info. GI has very few varsity players and now McAughey (spelled correctly) is out with a broken leg. The players they have are talented, commited, well coached, and fast. The bulk of this team has played together since they were in elementary school. They play well together and trust each other.
There wont be too many offensive changes from last year, but losing Nellenbach and Christen will hurt. McCarty, Volmerhausen, Mitroka will be primary offense scoring. GI sets shotgun hurry-up option offense and hides the ball well. You will see more passing from them this year.
Defense will adjust well changing it up depending on who they play. Some very good linemen and linebackers. They seem confident. Also fundamentals are solid with this group.
Some old names you will see again. Gape, Groff, Marko, Judd all had older brothers play, they play like veterans. Camilleri and Ziberi will likely be two way starters offensive line and linebacker. Ramon Stewart on the line maybe both ways. Max Gilliam may have won the starting center position. He is big, strong and smart. He started on Varsity in 2012 as a soph. Justin Moores is a Frosh who will play varsity for GI. Here is name to pay attention to. He is big fast and has great hands. seniors Moskall, Martinelli and Tascoff will see plenty of time as will Lowler, Zochowski and Perry.
The biggest worry for Grosse Ile is numbers. With only 22-24 players, they will need an injury free year. Losing McAughey is extremely hurtful.
The game picks will be out sometime this week. I will also have my actual season predictions coming out in the next few days. Still trying to gather some info and sort through it all. The secrecy surrounding teams is pretty laughable. It is football, you block and you tackle. It never really changes. I wish people were a little more forthcoming about their teams. I would just like to share that info with the readership.
when will you have your picks for the week?
Actually the whole huron team was there. Yes they did talk smack most of the game but most of it was at the beginning of the game. SMCC team is small in height and weight wise and huron is much taller and bigger so they thought that meant SMCC wouldn't be that good But once they saw them playing the comments were not all that bad and they were eating the trash talk they stated before the game started. it should be a good game when they play each other!
Huron wont have much to talk smack about when Mitroka is lighting them up.
The "whole team" ay? All 44 of them? Probably a couple of kids talking just like every other school at a scrimmage.
Well, over 20 of them, in their jersey, with Huron spelled right on them. I can count, hear and see just fine, AY! Nothing but a mention, but if it makes you happy.
So now that people have seen both SMCC and GI who do you think the better team is?
We checked out the last half the GI scrimmage. Hard to tell. Small squad and they were missing McCarty. Defensive players were small compared to those of Western, it was almost funny, but they have heart. They have a few RBs that are quick, able to handle themselves in tight situations. Migauky was a name I caught. There's a freshman on the squad, didn't catch the name, but you wouldn't have known he was. Quick, good hands. Cc will have a good fight on their hands with team, but they will have to come together hard and strong to take them out playing at CC. Huron's entire team was there getting a good look, talking smack the whole time. You should hear their thoughts.
Hampton was not on varsity.
Is the Freshman Hampton on Varsity at Flat Rock ?
I saw GI, they where no good and unimpressive. All Huron League teams need not be concerned with them……..wink, wink.
We are not concerned.
CC outscored Trenton 4 TD's to 1 in one half of a full scrimmage.
I went out and saw FR this evening against Summerfield, Michigan Center and Hillsdale. They grow them very big down on the farm. My Alma Mater may be the smallest varsity team I have ever seen but they play extremely hard and have pretty good team speed. It was nice to see the Rams running the no huddle spread (would like to have seen that last year). The QB's are on the smallish size but throw the ball pretty darn well. Cody Radcliffe could start for any team in the Huron League and be a star. Defensively the Rams struggle against the bigger/stronger farm boys and that probably won't help them much in the Huron League. I say it a lot but the Rams were well coached by my boy OC and his staff.
Anyone see GI?
Anybody check out Airport? I wasn't able to make it. EM
I spoke with a few people who were there and they said SMCC looked very good. I didn't get many details but they looked very good.
Did anyone see SMCC and Trenton?
Chelsea and Pinckney are going to pretty good. Chelsea was 6-4 last season and has pretty much been the class of the SEC White for a while. Pinckney was 4 and 5 last season in the Kensington and return 6 starters on offense and 6 on defense including their top RB and QB. Also, they are Division II most likely. Maybe Jefferson was just in over their heads a bit for now. Probably a good scrimmage for them because they open with Tecumseh.
Got a chance to see the View and Jefferson in two different scrimmages. I thought Riverview ran the ball very well, and seem to have a solid front on both sides of the ball with a couple backs that can easily handle the workload out there…that looks like a team to look out for
On the Jefferson side, it was interesting to see them settle into a new offense and defense. The defense seemed to be very weak at times as all teams involved (Pinkney/Chelsea) seemed to move the ball with ease. Seems to be a 4-2-5/44 look. Offensively I seen a lot of I-formation, some split back stuff, and the occasional gun package. Sandore seems to play his best on the offensive side of the ball, but didnt open my eyes.
Lol, Can't wait…..
Was wondering why I didn't see anyone practicing at Hurons field today. Super excited to see Huron Vs Summit; The tribute to Jimmy Williams is going to be pretty amazing.
KC
Went and saw Huron this morning out in South Lyon. Seemed to handle Garden City pretty easliy. The 1's scored four times. Played pretty even with South Lyon East. Neither teams 1's scored. I think they surprised Michigan Collegiate by scoring with relative ease with 1's on the field. Threw off Collegiates #1 offense with their team speed on #1 defense. The QB play was solid but must cut down on some mistakes.
