  1. Chris,
I think you are forgetting what Josh Smith did his sophomore year. Over a 1000 yards rushing 14 or 15 TD's. All Metro West first team, all Huron league first team and Offensive player of the year as voted on by the team. Josh, last year had a pretty good year. Rushing for over 800 yards and 11 TD's. Josh, also plays on special teams and defense. Mr Samuels' does not play anything but RB. Maybe you should come to some of the games. They are both great RB's, but credit should be given where credit is due and not one sided. As far as track, Josh Smith is pretty dare good himself. In a 20 yard dash, I would take Smith over Samuels any day.

  2. 12:49 gilliam and groff on the DL for sure, but well see how judd bounces back from a broken leg. Word on the street is that he's doing well though

  3. coach Tom, thanks for the info, it is helpful and interesting. The more I read the closer the league seems to be. I think we may be in for some upsets this year. I think Huron is the sleeper.

  4. I was looking over the Milan roster that the Monroe News has posted and saw an interesting name for folks to file away.

Shawn Beaton was on the 2011 Varsity Team as a sophomore and while Arthur Dukes was still the workhorse of that squad, Beaton had his share of carries.

I don't believe Beaton played football at all last season, and I have no idea why. People quickly forget that there was something of a divide here in Milan going into last season, and there was some talent lost as a result. That said, I don't know if his absence was due to burnout, injury, academics, a falling out with coaches or any other reason. What I do know is that while growing up, that kid was always among the top athletes of his age in any sport he tried.

I don't know if he'll even be in the rotation to start the season, but starting Friday night in Ypsi, I'll have an eye out for #28 this season to see if he can make a difference.

  5. I wonder why people are worried about someone listing players they think might do well. Even if it is 6 or so players. Odd thing to complain or comment about.

I say list whoever you want. Its about the kids, not us.

"There are lots of great kids to watch for on all these teams. Those of us who know a team better than others will list them all. No need to add 8 extra kids from SMCC. 3 or 4 is enough from each team. bn must be from cc. u already named whole team."

  7. The Detroit Free Press also released there picks to. They had some different names and some of the same as Chris did. Thanks for the blog Chris you do a great job.

  8. It will be an interesting season for many teams. We can argue about who is what but lets face it this might be one of the best shocking seasons we have had in while. I think its safe to say we are all excited for the season to start and we have some great teams in our league!

  9. To 7:50am— I am can agree they didn't need to list the whole team and it is just one mans opionion I think that the smcc team and fans are just a proud group and they work and win as a team they don't focus on individuals they focus on team. so don't take it personally. It is all good fun.

  10. Travis Lamb, Craig Bosonac, James Thomas, Sean Kirschner, Tom Friar and Nathan Hintz should all be great assets to Jeffersons team this year. All did great in scrimmage against much bigger schools.

  11. There are lots of great kids to watch for on all these teams. Those of us who know a team better than others will list them all. No need to add 8 extra kids from SMCC. 3 or 4 is enough from each team. bn must be from cc. u already named whole team.

  12. Wow, I don't know what scrimmage you were watching cause we all thought Camilleri played excellent. You sure you were on GI? Just cause your kid didn't get mentioned don't hate on the ones that did! That kid is a workhorse-trust me.

  13. no volmerhausen at CB for GI? was a beast last year. and really, camilleri? didnt look very good in GIs scrimmage to me. that moores kid is going to be something though, watch out for him in the next few years.

  14. We should give Schultzy a big thank you for is continued leadership on this blog. Chris would tell you that what he wrights is just one mans opinion. I know that he tries to keep it positive; I think that we adults should try the same!

  15. How can you forget Sam O'lear and Austin Corbin for SMCC. I do believe they both played really well last year and both are key players.

  16. Other names to look for in the Green and Gold are Kyle Bausman, John Lako, Nathan Fleck, Troy Hilkens, David Howey and Bryce Windham.

  17. Pick your poisen really. Both are very good. Samuels had better numbers but Smith was good too. Both have great speed Smith is probably a little more elusive while Samuels is more north/south.

  18. Did you read my intro? Sheeeeeeesh. To appease unsatisfied over here I better write something about Mr. Samuels. Well…let me see, Marcus rushed for 1,154 yards last season along with 13 TD's. He also ran 11.02 at the Division 2 state track and field meet last season to go along with a 2nd place finish in the 100 meters at the league meet and a 3rd place finish in the 200 meters.

    Should I add anything else?
